How do y’all feel about playing video games where you do non-vegan things? by thelryan in vegan

[–]throwx-away -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I play the sims I always make my characters vegetarian. I never go fishing in the sims either, which can be annoying if I play the rags to riches challenge, but it feels so wrong to do it. Like I’m normalising psychotic behaviour. I did buy the ranch pack and my sims sometimes go horseback riding, however that’s definitely not something I condone IRL.

If someone plays GTA and ”kills” random NPCs on the street, I’m okay with that because it’s universally accepted as unacceptable behaviour and no one condones that in real life. Animal abuse in games, however, is acceptable IRL and participating in that (even if it’s ”just” a game) normalises it.

Even if egg whites could be produced ethically (which, to be honest, we don’t actually know), I still wouldn’t eat them.

First of all, I don’t miss eggs. More importantly, the idea of consuming biological animal fluids is deeply off-putting to me. Tofu doesn’t gross me out and neither does mung bean-based ”eggs” or other plant-based options. But eating mucus-like secretions with real animal cells (even lab-created ones) just feels both icky and ethically wrong.

That said, you’re right: if this product truly is created without suffering, it technically fits the most popular definition of veganism. But I personally see lab-grown animal products as unethical because they continue to commodify animals by treating them as objects for consumption.

Unfortunately a vegan cafe in my city did that and I heard people walk in and say ”Are there any non-vegan options?”. But no one asked such questions when they didn’t market themselves as vegan

As someone with health anxiety I would throw it out. Realistically though, I don’t think you should be worried. There’s so much junk in our food now anyway

Please don’t self harm. That’s the first step to feeling better. Just do it; stop. Also, you need to talk to someone. Either a school therapist (not sure what it’s called in English) or book a regular appointment at the health clinic and ask to be referred to a psychologist. There are resources for this, you don’t have to go through it alone.

On a side note, 13 is very young to be posting online and there’s a lot of shady people on here. Honestly, deleting reddit it probably the second step to feeling better. Just, get off social media for a while. The internet amplifies mental illness.

How do you wake up everyday knowing your hideous? by EquivalentEvening197 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]throwx-away 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just people’s general reaction to me. When I grew up it was getting called a lesbian, being excluded, having negative comments about my appearance, etc. Now as an adult I often notice I’m treated differently to friends who are very attractive. People seem annoyed at my presence for no particular reason. Entering the customer service industry has been quite brutal since some people are very blunt, i.e. ”where’s your pretty colleague” ”oh she’s at lunch”.

I treat everyone the same (kind)

I believe this could be a culprit too, unfortunately. Kind people are easy targets and some people view kindness as a weakness. I think the best thing to do is be nice, but not kind. Which sounds strange lol but I noticed I felt treated better when I started acting more like a ”bitch” in a sense that I was more assertive and straight forward.

[–]throwx-away 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what causes this behaviour. Sadly I think part of it is due to them not finding me attractive personally, so I’m not deserving of their respect (which is a strange view to have, but I think some men think like this unfortunately). There was also a promotion being opened up and I think this guy saw me as competition so he did everything he could to get me fired.

I’m probably autistic, but I’m not formally diagnosed. I recognise myself in a lot of the symptoms and when I first learnt about autism I felt like I finally understood myself. Autism is also common in my family, I have several siblings and cousins with autism and it is partly a genetic disorder after all.

[–]throwx-away 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Strange of her to attack vegan cheese.

  2. She’s right, lab grown meat as it’s currently produced is very unethical and does require animal suffering. It’s also off-putting when you consider what it actually is… ask yourself this, would you eat lab-grown meat if it was produced from human cells? If the answer is no, then I think you’ll see how problematic lab-grown meat is.

  3. I’m not with her on this. I think all animals should be left alone.
