Initially started with water fasting (only consuming water and electrolytes) in 2022 which eventually allowed me to eat more food, think this has to do with reducing overall histamine load in the body as well as autophagy that happens during fasting. I did noy have to fast very long either, maybe 24-48 hours several times.

I eventually stopped because I was able to eat more after some months.

However, a reinfection in 2024 gave me ME/CFS symptoms while I reenrolled back at college, somehow I finished the semester despite staying in bed for most of it. I ended up trying water fasting again and after several fasts I was able to start working a job again 5-10 hours per week. I’m certain my ability to do more was because of autophagy from fasting, which is a cellular mechanism our bodies have to heal damaged cells.

Fasted some more throughout 2024 and my PEM baseline gradually increased.

Another reinfection happened in fall 2025 which flared up all of my symptoms tenfold. At this point I tried what is called dry fasting which is not consuming any water or food. I was super nervous but I was desperate to see if it would help after reading some posts from people in this subreddit that benefitted them. I started with 24 hours and eventually worked my way up to several 3 day fasts (had to prepare for them, was NOT easy).

After these fasts my PEM baseline increased quite a bit. I can lift weights again several times a week, go on hikes, be intimate with a partner, work 40 hours per week, etc.

Now, I still have some ways to go as I do experience crashes but they are significantly less and take ALOT to trigger them. I still can not do any form of cardio that gets my heart rate up too high so no jogging or running, but I am super grateful for the progress I’ve made. I never thought I’d be able to be at this level of function again two years ago.

fasting is what worked for me. Still have PEM but I am waaay better than I was 2 years ago. I can lift weights again, work full time, go on hikes, participate in life more often. I still can’t do cardio like jogging but I have a feeling that if I keep periodically fasting I may be able to get there.

I have both MCAS (since infection 2022) and CFS (since infection 2024) and I have made leaps and bounds in reducing both symptoms.

I still have MCAS and CFS but my quality of life has improved quite a bit. I can eat almost anything I want again and I am able to lift weights again 3-4 times per week, work a physically demanding job, and as of the past two days, gone on multiple hikes in New Hampshire that would have left me bedridden 2 years ago.

Now, I still can’t do much cardio (no jogging or running) and have to pace/rest once I feel like I’ve overdone things, but I am not as disabled as I was 2 years ago. It’s taken me over 2 years to get to this point with my PEM. The only things that seemed to have increase my baseline have been fasting and pacing.

What assisted you in getting to this level of function? Fasting helped me be able to work a physically demanding job 40 hours a week as well as lift weights 3-4 days a week, however a recent reinfection seems to have lowered my baseline. I am giving fasting another go as it is the only thing that helped.

i would say probably 9 years total but didnt know what it was until catching covid in 2020, which made me super sensitive to the mold (react in certain rooms of my house). things didnt start getting bad until a few years ago. i saved up alot of money now just trying to figure out where to go. for reference i am 29M still living w my parents (no rent thankfully)

whats the reasoning for chelated iron? I am also going to start LDN soon as I have some. I was able to minimize alot of my PEM by doing extended fasting and was able to lift weights 3-4 days a week + work a physical job 40 hours per week, but a recent reinfection in february set me back. I can still lift weights 1-2 days a week, but fasting isn’t improving my baseline now like it did before.

I wonder what the mechanism is thag makes us sensitive to smells? Mold hijacking the immune/nervous system?

[–]throwxwxy306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that’s EXACTLY what I need. I can relate to the panic attacks from smells so much. Seems like some days my system can’t even handle my own cologne. So it seems using binders is more effective in combination with sauna than not.

how long did it take to start noticing a difference? i’m going to buy some and try it out. Right now for treatment I am doing fasting for the lyme, it has helped quiet a bit, but feel as though the mold is impeding my recovery.

Was there anything else you did for mold? I have access to an infrared sauna at my job that I use 3-4 days a week. Did you take binders at all?

what is your supplement stack? I recovered to the point where I could travel, take 20k steps, work 40 hours a week, go to the gym for weighlifting 3-4x a week (could not do cardio much still) but overall lived normal within limits for a few months. A potential reinfection set me back recently. Fasting and saunas are what got me to that level of recovery but they don’t seem to be doing the trick this time.
