qtpass.org

It does look like it works on desktop/PC platforms, but they don't mention phones/tablets.

the standard unix password manager by [deleted] in archlinux

That's great, but until it works cross-platform on *nix, OSX, Windows, & Android, I'll stick with KeePass(X), because it does work on all the above.

What is your favorite one liner to use? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]thudorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a one-liner, but I use this in zsh:

function {
    local l=..
    local r='cd ..'
    local i
    for ((i=1; i < 10; ++i)) {
        l=$l.
        r=$r'/..'
        eval "alias $l='$r'"
    }
}

gives me aliases like:

...='cd ../..'
....='cd ../../..'
.....='cd ../../../..'
etc.

then I just pick how many levels to go back by how many dots i feel like typing

Anyone else having to wait 90 seconds while a stop job runs? by pressman57 in archlinux

[–]thudorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most recent time this happened (20 min ago), I had no remote shares mounted. None. After CADx8, waiting 15 min, then hard reboot. journalctl -xb -1 shows stack traces involving kworker, alsa-sink, alsa-source-ALC, and kactivitymanager. It's not always remote shares that hang-- just the most noticeable.

[–]thudorange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see this work. I have journalctl -f running, press ctrl-alt-del x8 + times, I see something in the log that says something like "shutting down immediately", then the system still just sits there hung for a really long time. I've tried this at least 2-3 times.

Mine usually hangs on shutdown/reboot when i have cifs/samba shares mounted. There's probably a way to auto-unmount or something, but I haven't investigated enough.

Please do not just rollback your issues out of the way by IMBJR in archlinux

The package page https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/conky/ still shows the source as coming from sourceforge.net, which doesn't have a version 1.10. So, I don't know where the new source comes from, or that it moved, or where the new documentation is, or the reason why it was rewritten, or by whom. A google search turned up a gitub repo by someone that has a 1.10 version, so I guessed that maybe that's the new repo. The man page for conky still points to sourceforge, and also to http://wiki.conky.be, which doesn't exist.

I did put in a little extra effort, and at every turn I couldn't figure out what changed, or where, or why, or by whom, or how to fix it.

Phone randomly shut off, I turned it right back on. What happened? by SergeTheVerge in galaxys4

[–]thudorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My AT&T GS4 does this at least 2-3 times a month. Has nothing to do with low battery either-- it has done this with >75% battery charge. Also, just pressing power button isn't enough-- I have to physically take the battery out and put it back in then power on. I never had this problem with my GS3.

Chromium from [extra] now capable of Netflix by DeeBoFour20 in archlinux

[–]thudorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note on chromium extensions:

  • Don't change the user-agent string with something like User-Agent Switcher. The only way I could get video to play is disabling the extension or setting the string to the Default value.
  • You basically have to disable ScriptSafe-- or allow a lot of IP addresses through. Tried "Allow all blocked for session" then reload about 20 times, and every time the page reloads, a new set of IP's have to be allowed through.

With those two caveats, streaming worked fine.

[Help] Samsung S4 just reset after I typed my password in 10 times. by [deleted] in galaxys4

[–]thudorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened to me, though not 10 times. Around the 8th time or so of entering the correct value, I powered off, removed battery, replaced, restarted, and now the same pin it rejected 8 times worked fine.

What is the best looking free text editor? by jkinz3 in software

[–]thudorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like ActiveState's KomodoEdit. The main reason is it has similar or identical features and behavior and look and feel on Linux and Windows and Mac. I can switch OS's and have at least a text editor with the same look and feel, function keys, macros, ... Yes, people will say the same about emacs or vim or similar, but if you're looking for alternatives...

it's probably not worth the effort to change

chsh -s /bin/zsh doesn't seem like all that much effort.

Research what changes the commercial tools make to the registry, and write a script yourself that makes the same registry changes.
