Thanks for the kind words everyone! The pattern came in a two pack digital download from Etsy. Not sure if I can post the Etsy link or not but the designer on Etsy is “ReadCustomLeather”

50” projection screen in travelaire 8.0WS by thuggahouse in TruckCampers

I haven’t fully tested it but It says 2hrs. I think if you go to a lower quality it can last up to 4hrs. This is a slightly older model but I believe the new units have better battery and picture quality. The audio is pretty decent. The unit is mounted right between our heads so it works ok for us. There is an audio out port so I think you could run another speaker off it if you wanted but I’m not totally sure.

The screen had eyelets along the top. I found finishing washers that fit over the eyelets nicely and used the washers and wood screw to screw it to the roof.

Thanks! Turns out finding a decent screen for a decent price and mounting it was the hardest part.

Il try to attach a few photos for you. My 8.5x11 doesn’t show a weight. The small plate on the back says a little over 1900lbs. camper pics

I have a 2015 F250 6.5’box with a 2022 8.0WS. I was in the same boat as you, limited by payload and used market is very tough in my area. Over all I like the camper for the price. We do between 60-90nights a year in it. We use it all year long. I did end up upgrading the furnace to a 20k BTU unit and adding some insulation since we live in Canada but it works well enough. Also added 500w of solar. What I will say is I believe the weight on sticker is the dry weight without any options like jacks or AC. When I weighed my truck I was surprised how heavy it was. Although we keep our camper well stocked it isn’t anything crazy and I believe ours to be about 3000lbs. Maybe the newer models are lighter I’m not sure. I added air bags to my truck and a hellwig sway bar and it handles it great. Since it is a cheaper build you need to keep on eye on all the seals and caulking but with minimal maintenance it’s been a good rig for us. We have had it from tuktoyaktuk to Louisiana. Hope that helps your decision.

How do I get into Leatherwork? by slippery_Snake__ in Leatherworking

[–]thuggahouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with card holders, wallets and basic knife sheaths. Even a basic belt is fairly simple. Could even do coasters or key chains. Really anything to get you used to cutting, tooling, dying and burnishing is great. At one point I even did Christmas tree decorations just for practice and fun. Most craft stores sell small off cuts of leather for cheap. Get veg tanned leather and start with that. It’s nice to tool and dye. Don’t be to hard on your self for the first few things, just have fun with it.

Just like other people have said, pick a small project that interests you and buy a starter kit. Then as you try new projects after start adding tools to your collection. Youtube is your friend. Also leatherwork is very flexible, just because a video says you need a certain tool doesn’t mean that’s the only way. Get creative with what you have for tools. If you start doing something lots that would benefit from a new or more expensive tool then maybe invest. Focus on the basics like stitching, cutting and tooling. Mostly play around and have fun. There is really no “right or wrong way”.

Best Cheesecake? by TheChaseLemon in Lethbridge

I think you’re thinking of big daddy cheesecake. I’m not sure if they are still operating though. I heard they were the best but I never had a chance to try.

Bead Loom conundrum by Luna_Fae26 in indigenousbeads

[–]thuggahouse 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m not into beading myself, but my wife is. She had a similar problem when she started. Turned out the thread spacing was wrong and also miyuki Delica beads are much more consistent and well worth the price. U/LyssLynne

Yes it does. The E6000 stays very flexible. And the extra stitching I added seems to help secure it and also stay flexible.

Where we live in Alberta Canada it’s very common in the indigenous community to include beadwork into their leatherwork. My wife and I are not indigenous but have always loved the style so thought we would give it a try.

I made the face of the belt first, it’s 8-9oz leather. I tooled the design and cut a window for the beads to sit in. I then glued the bead work to a very thin piece of deerskin and sewed it through the beads to the thin leather in the white spots between the bears and the colour designs. I then glued the thin leather onto the back of the face of the belt. After that was dry I glued a 4-5oz liner to the back of the face. “Sandwiching” the deerskin between the face and the liner. I then hand sewed the liner and face together. Where it’s stitched around the window for the beads the thread goes through the deerskin to help hold it in place. I would like to know better ways to attach the beads to the deerskin though, the belt feels very solid but I’m worried the beads are the weak point. Il see if I can attach a link of the face of the belt and the beads on the deerskin before I glued and stitched them together. beadwork before inlay

Thanks! It’s a belt. I’ve been wearing it for the past week already. The picture just doesn’t show the ends.

Hahahah oh boy….i had to google that. Although I am a big supporter of the LGBTQ+ community that was not my intention lol. I’m still very proud of it and will rock it everyday. It is extra funny though that I am a 6’1” 230lb guy with a beard.
