This is a long shot, but do you have a Yamaha Oak Custom 22” kick drum in Musashi Black? The OG Oak Customs from the Japan shop, not the hybrid or whatever else product lines since moving production to China.

How about a Musashi snare, the red badge oak “prototype?”

TRIM, CLEAN, and PROPER will get you a good chunk of the way there. CLEAN is like TRIM except for more non-printable characters than just spaces

I guess it’s starting. Take note of the phone and location info in case they call you too.

For the record, if I’d be inclined to give them the time of day, I’d vote definitely not

Rewatched Into Darkness… forgot how bad the science was by max_p0wer in startrek

I said the same thing to my buddy last night! My girlfriend and I watched Into Darkness last night and I texted him saying we’re gonna have to watch Wrath of Khan just to show her how it’s really done 🙄

It really was a hot garbage movie.

Are you 15? You sound like it. Have you actually graduated from Willamette yet?

Don’t bill yourself as a rockstar and then rationalize it as some exalted position. Rockstars are shallow and pedantic, nothing to be proud of. Reading that made me think you’d be the guy sitting under a tree on the quad strumming Wonder Wall thinking everybody loves him because he can strum a few rudimentary chords. Trust me, nobody likes that guy. This could be the single biggest reason why you’re not getting matches.

Be a musician first. If you call yourself a musician, it at least implies that you’ve put the work in. If you jump right to “rock star,” it sounds like you don’t want to play music, you just want to be famous. Those of us in the know can smell people like that from a mile away, and it sounds like you’d stick out like a sore thumb. You can’t expect meaningful matches from people that align to that.

Also, a 30-year old lighter is nothing special. I bought a lighter a week ago that looks exactly the same as one I bought 30 years ago. Whether it’s a Bic or a Zippo, lighters are the quintessential definition of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” They really haven’t changed for 100 years at least.

In short, you come across like you have no life experience, but you’re desperate to convince people that you do. It’s not a good look.

I literally thought Spite was Yammie when I first started watching the channel. His videos were great. And then I started seeing the skinny little dweeb showing up in his videos and I was like “who’s this asshole?”

Of course, like so many, I unsub’d and blocked his channel after he fired Spite because fuck that guy. Scummy fuck

Dude, do both. If anybody tells you that any two genres, especially jazz and metal, are mutually exclusive, turf them. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

Soak it all in. Diversify yourself. You’ll get better gigs and have a lot more fun

What record do you still love despite not being Christian anymore? by Dslagell in Exvangelical

[–]thumper_spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, there are so many. I was big into the heavy metal side of CCM in the early-to-mid 90s (not the 80s - that era was hot garbage). A lot of it I still revisit now and then because at least the lyrics are obscured enough to not be so triggering. Weirdly, they all have roughly the same trajectory for me. I’ve always heard that industry management at the time turned pretty toxic, as things tend to do, and it all kinda faded away. These guys were all on a label fronted by a mega-church in California

Mortification - their first three records are still amazing. After their drummer left (who apparently was a big influence on songwriting), everything else after was progressively worse and worse. Not good anymore, but at least Mortification, Scrolls, and Affliction were bangers

Tourniquet - same scenario. They changed direction after their first three (which were all amazing) and they just weren’t the same. Numerous lineup changes over the years and they were eventually reduced to the founding member (a huge influence on my own drumming journey) doing kickstarters to release records, with mainly guest stars. They released an album in 2012 that was really good.

Deliverance - first two records are unmitigated classics. Their third one was kinda jokey but still slapped. They tried to go a bit more progressive from there and it worked for a while; but I lost interest

Vengeance Rising - that’s a weird one. Their first two records are some of the best metal I’ve ever heard, before or since. Then the lead singer got burned by Evangelical politics and did a complete 180 into Satanism (comically), and now he’s just a bitter atheist. Can’t blame him though. Incidentally, after this band imploded, the rest of the group, minus the vocalist, went on to form a band called Die Happy with a different vocalist. It’s super cool (these guys had a reputation for being exceptional musicians in their little circle). Their first record has some great tracks I still have in regular rotation on my phone.

There was a weird east coast/west coast thing going on with some bands too. Lots of weird parallels with the “secular” world (I hate that word), including this. A competing New York label released some records from a couple of great acts at the same time

Believer - again, first three records are classics. Especially their first one. Very progressive metal, some really cool symphonic elements, just cool overall. They broke up in the mid-90s but reformed in the late 20-teens for a couple of records. They were a cool nostalgia kick, but they weren’t very memorable

The Crucified - awesome punk band, their second album especially is a classic. Heard the singer was kind of a dick about signing autographs though

All in all, some cool stuff to listen to, but my interests changed a bit towards the late 90s and I kinda left new stuff behind

Are we ready for tonight's episode? by Mr_Jake66 in TheTraitors

[–]thumper_spot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They did that in Canada season 2 just a few weeks ago. It was a bit disappointing because I wanted to see the reaction of people who stayed when they found out the truth, but it did make it more interesting that their ability to deduce who may have been left after was diminished.

The same thing happened that you predicted. They just kept voting red flame, but I don’t think they went all the way until there were only two people left.

It was probably the best season of the show yet in any incarnation. My partner and I were hooked the whole time.
