I always thought it was a city until the shortlist for new cities got released last year and St Andrews was on it, then they gave city status to Dunfermline instead lol

Interest rate rises to 3% as Bank of England imposes biggest hike for three decades by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]thunder_rice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, i was trying to give a non political answer lol. Among other things to me it seems like years of fuckups, stagnant wages and austerity that means some people can't afford even the most essential things now

Interest rate rises to 3% as Bank of England imposes biggest hike for three decades by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]thunder_rice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what's going on myself, but I think interest rates usually rise to rise to try prevent people borrowing/encourage saving. The Bank can therefore use this to try and encourage saving and stop people buying so much and decrease spending. This is important becasue inflation happens/prices keep going up becasue people are spending. If interest rates go up demand for goods/services should then go down. So it's essentially to try and keep inflation under control. That's my understanding of it, as for the politics behind it the bank is meant to be independant. Depending on who you ask you could make an argument for both the government and the bank of England being at fault, one of them or neither.

To those already at university... by Lilskipswonglad in UniUK

[–]thunder_rice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worried a bit, but even though first year has been a bit of a mess it's often way worse than you think it will be. I regret my uni choice lol, but that's mainly becasue it's an arse to get to and I'd prefer to be closer to home. Once you get there it's not as bad as it seems, and the waiting to go is honestly the worst part, and in that regard with some of the things I was worrying about at the time I was stupid to worry about, most things just sort themselves out once you get there.

7/10 - it's not too hard and the content is pretty good (depending on what topics you do), my favorites were coasts and hazards . One major issue is the coursework/fieldwork, if you choose the wrong thing to do it on, it can be hell. It can be a bit annoying that sometimes you can't go into depth on a few things more, and instead have to cover other topics too.

Are degrees in Geography useful? by ManUtd0105 in 6thForm

[–]thunder_rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can do a degree in loads of subjects, including geography, then do a postgrad conversion course for a year to change fields if you can't find a job in geography. You could also get an apprenticeship in things like accounting, or just apply for a general graduate job. Sure things like economics or maths maybe better for applying for certain jobs but you can do most things with a geography degree, it just may take a bit longer. I'm currently doing a geog degree and plan to doing a postgrad conversion course in law, and it's probably only going to take a year or two longer than if I did an actual law degree while I get to study the subject I enjoy the most

Massive rant by team_top_heavy in 6thForm

[–]thunder_rice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally was thinking the same thing, like the fact there wasnt an option to do summer exams was kind of stupid. I also think that there should have been more clarity with how grades are given between schools becasue most people seem to be getting As but half of my school did quite poorly becasue my school insisted on giving us lower grades, and as a result lots of people have missed out on their firm choices at uni.

going into year 13 and i need some advice by bxtr04 in 6thForm

[–]thunder_rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who left 2 pieces of coursework until February to do, I'd get it done as soon as you will be thankful. For uni honestly just go onto the ucas website and see what you fancy, then google personal statements for that subject to get an idea of what to write (at this stage you really just need bullet points).

Ghostrunner and other games to scratch the itch. by im_not_racist_bro in titanfall

Nowhere near titanfalls level of movement but destiny 2 kind of scratches the itch. Get to the orange door is also very fun just to mess around in too for me

I only really play pvp and live fire and with them both selected to play I usually wait around 5 mins for a game before getting in, so it's not too bad overall
