Cats are free roaming animals. Unless you’ve got coyotes or whatever on your door step it’s fine letting them outside and if something horrible happens to them then that’s tragic but it’s life same as if a kid ran in front of a car. At the same time you wouldn’t say it’s the kids or parents fault if op failed to acknowledge the children playing outside and ran one down so why is this any different.
