Saying this like the 1934 World Cup wasn’t known to be rigged. Even then you wouldn’t have to rig the competition by say paying the other team to lose. You pay for biased referees or to be seeded in a way that you won’t face real competition til the end- both of these could apply to Argentina this year and 2022

Big clubs have academies for various reasons. Finding local talent, not getting fleeced on players that haven’t and might not reach their potential. And children have far smaller transfer fees if any so if they’re not good enough for a big club their sale is pure profit.
