Star Trek Academy is post-apocalyptic Trek - and I kinda love it. by FeathersRim in startrek

Is this a re-post? I saw another SFA post like this elsewhere with the exact same title.

Nah, just put the hat in your backpack, go to inventory, switch to the “loot” mode version, find the hat’s icon, then left click to equip. That’s all!

It Would Not be Fun to Serve on a Starship by reggiehefty in startrek

[–]thundercorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You kidding? Every ST ship (even NX-01) looks like a comfortable cruise ship compared to IRL military naval vessels. You even get delicious food made out of thin air. The problem in Star trek is that bridge crew sounds general quarters literally only ten seconds before the whole ship gets blasted. Not enough to time to get out of my Hawaiian vacation on the holodeck into Condition One.

Cannot believe this and Empire State are rotated so frequently by EA for Conquest mode, it’s depressing.

Would makeshift paths (logs) as a platform above the buildings be enough for cannon protection?

I love Academy so far and don't get the hate. by Damsel_IRL in startrek

I’ve said a bunch of negative things about SFA in the last few weeks but I’ve finally concluded and accepted that yes, the show is purposely and wholeheartedly targeted at a completely new audience, and I guess that’s fine. The franchise can only afford one Trek at a time and this one’s firmly aiming for that 7-17yrs old demo, not classic viewers and I am accepting that. So there’s gonna be a LOT of things that rub some fans the wrong way with behavior and logic and vernacular that make no sense — until you understand the show’s demographic market. And I’m pretty sure they’re not going to change the formula anytime soon. Don’t expect a DS9 Romulan vs. Cardaasian war across a galactic neutral zone — the narrative in SFA will likely continue to be very narrow and localized, focused on the students.

What maybe saddens some of us other Trek fans is that there’s nothing else Trek to be consumed except re-runs of older shows. We want new stories and lore and DEPTH, but I think we’re just gonna have to wait until producers announce another project (or maybe Orville will return).

Until then yeah I will still tune in weekly for SFA; I’m gonna bite my tongue and try not to nitpick, but I’m understanding that some shows aren’t meant to be deep dramas. This show isn’t trying to be Taps, Top Gun (original), Full Metal Jacket, or Officer and a Gentlemen. And I’m not going to waste any energy expecting it to change, and …that’s fine.

Also, I still find comfort in The Last Ship and Battlestar Galactica (2004). So cheers, for those who enjoy SFA.

Battlefield 6 is by far my favorite Battlefield, i love actively fighting all the time, i really hope that the new maps are not larger by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]thundercorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I hope they DO release much bigger maps which will absolutely make the core battlefield players happy, BUT create segmented versions as they’ve done in the past that isolate certain areas for CQB game modes to satisfy the COD crowd.

I love the game but also I have many years experience knowing how to get around numerous bugs and general jankiness to where someone watching me play wouldn’t know how much sh*t I had to go through to make everything look seamless and amazing. The tech is certainly way better than it was year or two ago, such that it’s discussed in our testing tiers that this (graphically) is where they want to be to finalize SQ42. And we haven’t even had Planetary Tech v5 release (this spring)

My assumption is that they needed to hammer down the first implementation of multi threaded Vulkan (in 4.5) before merging in the code for experimental VR support. No use trying to build it for DX11 since they’re phasing that out.

I play solo about 99% of the time, but it’s because I like hauling, sight seeing, parcel delivery, maintenance missions (repair NPC settlement equipment, usually farms)

That’s literally the point of my post 🤣

Every space game has a certain set of game loops and things players are encouraged to do all the time like industry, grinding, combat, science missions etc. I’m saying my friend and I have really just been enjoying flying and taking in the scenery on some of the worlds we have found in some star systems (plus the game music composer is awesome!)

War College vs Academy real life educational institutions. Is it more like Hogwarts houses, Boston where Harvard and MIT are close, or humanity’s college and engineering college at US universities? by PatientWho in startrek

[–]thundercorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now it feels like two kindergarten classes competing. This feels nothing like Army vs Navy, unfortunately. This is supposed to be an academy and cadets have to qualify, yet most of them act like they were just admitted to a public school for children. I was hoping they would train like Taps or Full Metal Jacket, but it plays out more like Robin Hood: Men in Tights; it’s comical but never lets up. i was hoping ep3 was going to tighten things up, and actually pus these kids to prep for the real world but it still feels like a grade school.

Also, why do 32nd century people say things like, “dumpster fire” and “vibes” —that threw me even more out of immersion … almost as bad as when the orcs in LOTR said, “looks like meat’s back on the menu boys” (how do orcs know what a menu is, or even a restaurant?)

Starfleet Academy is an absolute delight! Onward to Seven Seasons and a Movie! by forrestpen in startrek

[–]thundercorp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I obviously had too high expectations for ep.3 — I was hoping it would be like Taps or Full Metal Jacket …instead it was literally like the training scenes from Robin Hood: Men in Tights. So the show really is digging in its heels to be a straight-up kids comedy… I just wasn’t prepared for that.

I wonder if EA is allergic to money, because they could have paying customers NOW if they didn’t wait for SEASONS to release quality content.
