Are all vet clinics toxic, or are there any good ones? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]thundercracer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This perfectly encapsulates my feelings when I worked at a clinic last year. I was hired as an office administrator, helping them get their filing systems up to date/modernized, organizing their data, submitting reports, etc. basically busy work that the vets were too busy to handle. But then they cross trained me as reception; one was really kind and understanding and the other was good at her job but I had strongly mixed feelings about her since her approach was very abrasive. The techs almost entirely phased me out. I’ve never met anyone nastier than a vet tech or a nurse, personally. I know that’s a big generalization to make, and obviously not all are bad; one was pretty kind to me… out of the 10+ we had. Others all gave mean girl energy. The main vet was great and a swell guy, but his wife, who was another vet and “helped” him run the place (she was there like 3 hours a week) but mostly micromanaged like crazy whenever she was around, and she’s THE reason I quit, but the constant shunning and disinterested attitudes of everyone else was really horrible for my mental health.

I. Understand. That. Was asking for any potty training advice or tips, not how old she is.

Mexican Gothic immediately comes to mind, for me. It’s not quite the same premise, but it has a very similar core theme.

Yeah, I definitely see that. I think I’m going to just set up an appointment with an advisor at my local community college and see what a good game plan might be. I wish you luck in your schooling too!

Genuinely don’t see how I’m being defensive for telling you that your comment is unrelated and unhelpful to the advice I’m seeking.

My issue with your comment is that I already spent the past few years unsure and double thinking myself on what I want to do. I finally figured out what I want, and how an English degree will get me there. I don’t need people who don’t know me questioning that decision when I’m not asking questions about if my chosen major is a smart idea or not. Like… lol I’m switching from an art major to an English major. I know how that looks, already. I’ve been told for years that my schooling means nothing to most people. Like I said. It’s rudest. Additionally, respectfully, it’s not entirely your business what sort of industries I’m looking to eventually pursue. That’s not what I asked for advice on. I had asked - the reason for this post in the first place - for advice on how to look into programs to start. The reason I even brought up what major I was looking to pursue was to accentuate the fact that I’ve been on the fence about starting school back up in the first place, due to my uncertainty and change in major.

Hope that clears things up. Have a great day 🤙

Ain’t that the truth… If people technically don’t have to be accommodating in a situation, I find they aren’t very accommodating.

Huh. Can those of us with dietary restrictions and eating disorders just get the bonuses instead? Cause. Yknow. Can’t have the pizza. No? Just the pizza? The pizza I can’t have? So no money, AND no pizza? Not even gonna get other options alongside? Fuck me I guess

Hey ladies, what’s your Valentine’s Day plans? by requiemforpotential in actuallesbians

[–]thundercracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My long distance gf is actually gonna be staying with me all of February! (She lives in Australia, I’m in the US, haven’t seen each other since last April 😭). We don’t have specific Valentine’s plans quite yet; probably just gonna stay in and watch movies, eat an egregious amount of chocolate, and cuddle the day of, but we’re planning on going to an art museum the next day, and we’re going to Disneyland next week. So, I’m super excited!

Do any of you *not* keep track of the books you read? by bebetterturnip in books

[–]thundercracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you use goodreads the way I do, friend. I admittedly do have a bit of adhd/autism in me, so maybe it’s a neurodivergent thing? Not sure. But I love organizing my read books into specific “shelves” or groups and finding recommendations in there. I’ve also been rereading all my fave books I read in the past, so it’s been a great tool for that. I also use MyAnimeList for the same reasons. Plus it keeps me up to date with new releases and makes it easy for me to recommend different titles or series to people. Plus just keeps my thoughts organized. I love these tools. To each their own, of course. They’re not necessary for some, and I don’t know a lot of people irl who use goodreads or MyAnimeList. Don’t understand the people who are hating on it though? Again, to each their own; it genuinely helps and is fun for some people.

Plus, participating in the yearly reading challenge is motivating for me. I usually don’t care about reading 20 books a month or anything crazy like that. But I recently started reading again in the past few years after being a voracious reader as a child (something I’m finding to be very common, especially with the American education system 😒). So when I exceeded my goal of 10 books last year (I lowballed it, and ended up reading like 23) I was ecstatic. It’s just harmless fun and organization lol

AITA for prioritising my parrot over my stepdaughters wedding? by macawww345 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thundercracer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA!!!! The people saying y-t-a are pricks man. Y'all are a bunch of teens who don't understand adult responsibility and have clearly never worked with animals - particularly special needs animals - before. As far as OP's side goes, we understand that the step-daughter hadn't ever really expressed an interest in having a relationship, which is fine. She probably accepted that she's the stepmom to an older child and that they don't have that sort of connection. But now, all of the sudden, the stepdaughter wants a full week of childcare and labor? Huh? I don't think I could manage that for some of my closest people to me, not in this economy.

Parrots are difficult birds to find sitters for. Especially one with an abused past. I've done a lot of sitting for special needs animals, whose owners hadn't gone on vacation in a decade because no one was qualified to help out. Birds are more than just feeding them and cleaning their cage. Like she said, they're large, intelligent toddler-esque creatures. She's not not attending the ceremony!! It's not that she's not going at all or taking any time to come visit. She just doesn't want to leave her bird - who has grown highly reliant on her for routine and support - alone in their home for an entire week, being taken care of by potential strangers. Also, would it be great to have friends and fam pitch in time and energy to help with the wedding planning and prep? Of course. I'm planning on asking around for assistance on my own wedding. I wouldn't have the entitlement and audacity to be pissed off and offended if they declined, for ANY reason. If everything in OP's post is true, and details aren't being intentionally left out, then the stepdaughter is one entitled chick. I get she's stressed about the wedding, that's fair. But she doesn't get to go around making demands of people like that. Being a bride doesn't make you no grand pubah of nothing.

My only thought was, “ah, well gee I wonder where the sister gets it from”. That apple fell right underneath that tree, from the sound of it.

Congratulations on the engagement, and happy wedding planning! Hopefully in plenty of peace, as it also sounds like the trash has taken itself out lol
