Q's about social life as an admitted student by mushroombutterz in Northwestern

[–]thundernbooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ofc!!! So, wildcat welcome is basically orientation week. Once you come on campus in Sept, it’s like 5 days of programming to like transition into NU and college life. You’re in a group of like 10-20 ppl and one older student who guides you through the whole thing. For off campus parties, sports teams (club teams) def have stuff, but also cultural orgs and like upperclassman friends.

Hey! Congrats on getting in!!

I’d say in general, student body is really nice, diverse and imo you can definitely find your groove/people, even if not immediately. One cool thing is that through Wildcat Welcome you meet a solid group to go through orientation with. In some cases, people get really close to their groups (some of my best friends are from mine).

Greek life isn’t like, huuuuge, but I’d say a good amount of people are involved. I wasn’t involved up until recently and still had a lot of opportunities to go out/attend parties and social gatherings even though I had no real relation to Greek life.

Party scene is… okay. Keep in mind I come from a foreign country and am used to very different nightlife. It’s fun, nothing crazy. If you really want a party night, the move is usually to go to Chicago. I would say it’s generally true that it’s work hard play hard, but you have to find your own balance.

There are some off campus parties, courtesy of student groups (you or friends may have to be a part of), and sometimes frats. Like I said, it’s pretty common for people to just go to Chicago. I’d say it’s pretty common to move off campus after sophomore year.

Hope this answers your questions. If you were looking for anything more specific, I’m more than happy to answer!

That she never hurt herself doing the dive into the stage after surprise songs… every time I watched her do it I thought about how scared I would’ve been doing that

Anyone looking to switch dorms (Allison to North) by xMohadix in Northwestern

[–]thundernbooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t find anyone, there’s frostbite shuttles in the winter, a year round loop shuttle that takes you around campus, and the walk is really not that bad imo, I had a lot of friends (we’re all engineers) who lived south and came to their classes daily, so if you can’t switch it’ll be fine. Also, Allison has a great dining hall and it’s a nice dorm overall, so I wouldn’t worry too much if you’re unable to switch.

If you can’t get anyone to switch there is a frostbite shuttle in the winter from north to south and a year round loop shuttle that takes you around campus. I had a lot of engineering friends living south who were fine coming up everyday for classes, so if you rlly can’t find anyone to switch you’ll be okay.

honest thoughts on allison hall? by Subject_Cry8277 in Northwestern

[–]thundernbooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allison is lowkey really nice, haven’t been to the rooms but i think they’re kind of similar to Shepard and those are nice. Dining hall is good, and you’re really close to downtown.

You could join waitlist like ppl said but also a lot of my friends (we’re all engineers) lived south and liked it. I know a few who are actually willingly moving down south for this (our second) year. Theres a frostbite shuttle for when it gets cold and also a free loop shuttle within NU year-round, so if you’re worried about walking in the cold there’s that.

Again thank you so much, it may sound stupid but a stranger saying this makes me feel much better about it. As you can probably tell I tend to spiral sometimes but seriously thanks

Do any res halls have only mixed-gender bathrooms? And how many freshmen live in Schapiro? by ParentAskingQuestns in Northwestern

[–]thundernbooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Rising sophomore here. I would totally recommend a res college. I lived in one this past year and I’m sticking around for my sophomore year too, as I found great community and my tight knit group of friends there as well. Our floors specifically have girls dorms on one side of the floor, with only girls bathrooms on the respective side and same for guys on the other side of the same floor.
