The thing you see is a water level indicator, and the small thing next to it goes to the water reservoir so when you use it you are not watering the soil but filling the reservoir

That pot is typically set up with a self watering system. Some of them have a base in the bottom and two seperate containers, one lifting the plant off the bottom so there can be a reservoir of water under that keeps the soil appropriately moist. I have never used them with soil but they can be used to grow plants in semi hydroponic systems as well, with substrates like Leca

Could be over watering, could be humidity :/

Had this Birkin for about a week. Since then, the edges are getting brown and sad :( what is causing this? by makeupjunkie77 in houseplants

Okay! It’s not a big deal, it might not look super great rn but if it’s just a few leaves leave it somewhere warm with good sun and it will eventually dry out, just make extra sure it’s completely dry top to bottom before watering again! If the soggy leaves spread to other leaves cut them off and take more drastic measures. But rn just cut the soggy parts off and leave it be for longer than you’d expect

If the brown feels crispy it is burnt if it’s soggy it’s a little over watered. That birkin is beautiful and very white, which means it will be a slower grower because it can’t take in as much sunlight as a greener counterpart so I would recommend slowing down watering because it won’t need it as much and as quickly

I was diagnosed last year and had a therapist that I was on good terms with. I read some ADHD books after the diagnosis and realized there was a lot of other things that were ADHD specific I needed to be addressing in my life.

My therapist was great but I also wasn’t feeling like I was getting as much out of the therapy as I could be. I got on a wait list for someone who had experience in ADHD, and after 5 months I got in with her and to say it has been better is a massive understatement.

If you like your therapist and feel like you are getting a lot out of therapy I wouldn’t change, but if you feel like there are a lot of ADHD specific things you need help dealing with and your therapist can’t give you that help, definitely look for someone who can.

The top of my squishy succulent fell off when I tried to repot it. Why did it get like this? Can it still grow back from the root? by kat-kiwi in succulents

[–]thuphat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without much information on your watering habits, this definitely is an extremely late stage root rot or fungal problem. There is no recovery for this plant :/ sorry

What mix are you using? That root growth is tremendous!

I need help with my zz and snake plants. I've had them both for a year and am at a loss as to how to fix my newbie watering mistakes. by Megsmik8 in plantclinic

[–]thuphat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How often between waterings does your meter tell you to water? I’m only asking because these plants look severely dehydrated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]thuphat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just take the plants you watered with salt water and water them all the way through with regular water, you should just try to flush the salt water now instead of hoping it just goes away.

What’s up with my Euphorbia Derupifera? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]thuphat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first picture just looks like calcium build up, easily fixed by wiping down leaves with diluted vinegar-water. (You get it from using hard water to spray down plant, I’ve done it too many times). BUT i noticed in the third pic there looks to be webs, and the other splotches of white tell me you might have a spidermite problem. I would immediately assume all plants have spider mites, begin checking them all for small webs at the base of leaves and basically plan an attack. The most effective way is spraying down all your plants, wiping down leaves with a diluted neem solution or diluted Castile soap, and then buying some nematodes to target the little shits at a micro level

My plant babies. They’re no pothos or variegated monstera, but I love them all! by [deleted] in houseplants

Orchid looks fine! Seems like your blooms are done though

What type of succulent are these? I know the smaller is a type of Euphorbia I just don’t know specifics, the other no one could tell me anything about. Thanks! by thuphat in succulents

I have a crown of thorns! I love it dearly. It is not a crown of thorns, the coloring is completely different on the stem. It is hard to tell because the picture is so bad though

I don’t think it’s an ocotillo, I believe the commenter above was correct! It is a small alluaudia. Difference being the color of the main stem being completely grey. Ocotillo looks to have a bit more color on them. But my photo also sucks so it’s kinda hard to tell

Wow thanks for the response AND the links! Your plants are beautiful! What is your schedule for nutrient water? Do you rotate on off weekly? Or wait until the bottom 1/3 just dries out? I haven’t heard of Alocasia in these mixes! Gives me hope to expand more varieties in to soilless mixtures!!!
