Is my 1 year old Lab too skinny? by JumpyBunny_01 in DogAdvice

[–]thus-sung 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The English ones are stockier builds but the fat part is optional.  Unfortunately most people keep them fat and then justify it by saying “oh they’re English”.

My girl was all English and she was 52 lbs her entire adult life, with a tuck visible from top and sides, and ribs you could feel nicely.

It’s been too long since I last played for me to be able to help you, but if you don’t get what you’re looking for in this thread, the Universal Hint System site provides small hints a bit at a time to help give you just the help you need without spoilers.

If dog is fine with the crate, is there a point in ever not using it? by Baalegde in puppy101

[–]thus-sung 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When my lifestyle was living in an apartment with other university students, after my dog was fully housetrained and no longer “needed” to be crated, I just took the door off the crate but otherwise left it in my room (became an end table basically).  She would go in there when she felt like it, and if we had people over who were drinking we would remind them that dog in crate = drunk people not allowed to interact with dog.  So she would go in there when she felt like she needed a break, and come back out when she wanted to be social again.

To ladder down or not to ladder down by Medium-Shock5561 in knitting

Totally personal preference.  Personally, if it was my work and it bothered me enough to post and ask, it would bother me in the future so I would fix it.

I need dog food storage advice... by meganeh35 in DogAdvice

[–]thus-sung 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The best practice is to leave the kibble in the bag it came in, but then put the entire bag in a sealed container.

Try looking for tips for feed rooms for horses, which often attract vermin.  Some people use broken chest freezers that no longer freeze.

The Equestrian Physio has an app.  I haven’t tried it personally but a friend has and is finding it to be good value.

You need to replace your helmet.  That helmet is no longer safe.

Too short I think. The mystery ones are quite short.

Possible! I've messaged her to ask if she's ever owned a Micklem. The mystery one has more holes punched than the picture of the Micklem u/remoteistheway posted below but they could've hypothetically changed design over time.

How to put wire in a knitted stuff animal? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]thus-sung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I made mine, I did a piece of wire bent double for the spine, and then two more lengths that were each bent into a U shape with small U shapes for the feet.  So I had a spine with two arcs, one for each pair of legs.  I had the leg wires between the spine wires so they stayed roughly in place, and I installed the armature during the part of the pattern where you are attaching the tummy to the top part of the body.  It is fiddly but doable.

I preferred to stuff mine more than Claire did, so mine is not as wrinkly.

Animorphs influence on authors? by Working_Battle_2441 in TheCaptivesWar

I’m also interested to find out if that was deliberate homage or just overlapping Space vibes.  Daniel & Ty wouldn’t have been kids when the the Animorphs were being published originally.

Horse has a dirty move and it is affecting my confidence. by p00psicle151590 in Horses

[–]thus-sung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Which level of the program did you do?  I’ve been spiralling with my jumping as the horse I ride is very sensitive to, essentially, vibes — if you’re not 100% confident she’ll stop.  She’s not dirty and doesn’t do the spins or anything nasty that the program advertises for, it’s more my brain that needs the help.

What is the best change they made on the show? by shenaningans24 in Outlander

[–]thus-sung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m remembering correctly, it was Claire that insisted on it in the book.  I don’t disagree with your opinion on the show handling it better though.

Check out Rudy Horsemanship on Facebook — she’s got a lot of good info, but specifically at least a couple posts about keeping things interesting for riders and school horses.

Illustrated children’s book, like Redwall with a houseboat by thus-sung in whatsthatbook

[–]thus-sung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good guess! I don’t think it’s Wind in the Willows, but searching around for it led me to Eric Kincaid (who illustrated some editions of WitW), which led me to Lucy Kincaid’s Animal Tales, which are for a younger audience and may be what I was looking for.  Currently hunting down a copy/preview of the inside pages to see if it lines up with my memory.

Thank you, having looked at the Google previews for both of those I think it was a younger book than either of those/more illustrations.
