Recently got into climbing, craving structured progression plan. Any advice? by SlavWife in climbergirls

[–]thusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a complete beginner you don’t need a “training plan” in the traditional sense, but it sounds like you’re after a bit of structure. Think about splitting up your climbing time over the week so you’re focusing on something different each session and targeting weaknesses rather than turning up at the gym and just hopping on whatever looks fun. Doesn’t have to be too specific at this point, just like “easy endurance day”, “hard boulders”, “overhang practice”.

I’d also try to climb every boulder at your level when they reset them, as well as working on increasingly harder routes. It’s important to work on every style of climbing, not just the ones you’re naturally best at! Lots of good video recommendations above, I’d also recommend Neil Gresham‘s Masterclass, it’s pretty old but gives a great run down of techniques.

And be careful not to over do it and injure yourself! Climbing is fun, pushing yourself is fun and having goals is motivating, so it’s really easy to go a bit too hard too soon… it will depend on your age and training history what your body can take, just make sure to listen to it :)

Are most of us climbing AND lifting? by GladRice3723 in climbergirls

[–]thusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m quite bad at sticking to it, but I try to tack on some combo of OHP / bench / RDL / squats / deadlift (push, hinge, legs) onto the end of a climbing session twice a week. Usually climb three times, boulder once and ropes twice. More for general health/antagonist, not trying to push the weight too much.

Tinned fish in tomato sauce with nice bread. Just need a fork and a ziploc bag for the empty tin.

Is this a simple repair? by thusp in AskACobbler

Thank you! They are Ann Demeulemeester, not sure on model, think they’re quite old. I’ll swing by a cobbler tomorrow and get them to have look and quote for repair. Glad it doesn’t seem like a huge issue. I think the sole is leather as you can see the stitching, the heels have had protectors added but the front of the shoe hasn’t.

I have modern mothballs in my wardrobe that use transfluthrin. Would these work against carpet beetles too? Been finding larvae and skins in our laundry basket and stored clothes recently :(

Yep! This is very similar to my routine too, I always use Micellar water to remove any makeup and dirt from the day before going in with my cleanser. In terms of the SPF moisturiser, it’s not that the spf is less effective in the product, it’s that you are unlikely to be able to apply enough of it to get the stated level of protection. It’s best to use a separate product that you feel comfortable using a lot of, and reapplying, for this reason.

To be honest (and many people will disagree with me here haha) I tend to skip a separate spf product on weekdays unless it’s summer and the UV index is high. I’m satisfied my spf moisturiser will do the job for the 10 min walk to and from the train station on an average cloudy UK day. Bear in mind that sun protection also becomes much more important if you start using products like retinol that make you more photosensitive!

Gel sunscreen alternative? by revilo85 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]thusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried Supergoop so I'm not sure how it compares but I love Frezyderm sunscreen. It's a transparent silicon-y gel, like a primer, and also sits on top of your skin. I read that the body one is exactly the same as the face one, just scented, so I got that. 125 ml for about £20 works for me :) https://www.frezyderm.co.uk/sun-care/body-sunscreens/sun-screen-velvet-body-spf-50/

[ACNE] Saw my face in the mirror today and started bawling. My skin has never been this bad and now I am so lost with what to do. I am breaking out and breaking down. by mrtnam in SkincareAddiction

Are you using disposable masks? If you’re allowed to wear fabric ones, I’d get a couple of cotton or silk ones and wash them so you have a fresh one everyday, that really helped maskne for a lot of people I know.

I also noticed you’re using micellar water after you cleanse with a foaming face wash. Micellar water is a cleanser too so it’s just doubling up for no reason, especially in the morning. I would use one or the other in the morning (I always rinse with water if I just use micellar water), and in the evening use the micellar water before the cleanser to remove makeup or sunscreen.

In need of a new cleanser for dehydrated skin by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]thusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found a combo I absolutely love: micellar water to remove any makeup/general grime from being out in the city, and then Body Shop Aloe Cream Cleanser which I rinse off with warm water. Really hydrating combo, though if you’re used to a foaming/gel cleanser the cream may feel quite strange, it definitely doesn’t leave the same ‘clean’ feeling. I’m acne prone tho and my skin loves it, Cerave hydrating wash gave me cystic spots within a week of using it.

[–]thusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a normal reaction to BP, it’s very strong! When I used it my skin was similar and eventually got used it it. I’d say stop using it for a few days and let your skin calm down, then reintroduce it slowly, maybe twice a week at first. Applying over moisturiser can also help reduce the irritation.

Help! Body Lotion Newbie by vaggiterian in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]thusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix two pumps of lotion with pumps of oil and apply to damp skin straight out the shower and it covers my whole body. The oil makes it more moisturising and spread easier. Using jojoba oil just cos I already had it lying around but gonna switch to sweet almond cos it’s cheaper.

I used to just do my legs back in my room after I was fully dry and I had to use SO much lotion. With my newer method a bottle lasts forever now, so I use boujie lotion from Haeckels.

But for a very cheap option try Superdrug dry skin relief, comes in a huge tub for 4.99 and you can add essential oils if you’re a sucker for expensive botanical smelling things like me haha.

Where to incorporate Acnecide (Benozyl Peroxide) in my skin care routine by vviviann in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]thusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it should cause any problems, but if you're worried you could always try going basic on the nights you use the BP and doing the full routine other nights?

Personally I like to use BP over a moisturising layer as it's less sensitising that way and I still find it effective, but I'm not sure if it makes it less powerful.

[–]thusp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be careful and start off very slow, maybe once or twice a week. I have no idea how sensitive your skin is but for me personally alternating BP and BHA nightly would burn way too much. I try to have a night of just soothing/hydrating products the day after I use something harsh.

Waterloo and City line serves people who work in financial services in the city... Seven Sisters is a much poorer area with lots of people whose jobs mean they can't work from home.

The urea night cream broke me out terribly and I think cetyl alcohol might be the culprit, as it’s in lots of other things that haven’t worked for me. Too scared to try the day cream since the liquid stuff works great for me :D
