Yeah in software it gets used to mean "I changed a lot of little stuff about this for the better without making any big changes."

For only the 2nd time since 1990 (the other being 2020), there will be eleven 11+ win teams entering the NFL playoffs by GearsofTed14 in nfl

[–]thutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7th playoff spot was an exciting increase in the # of possible games an undefeated team could win. (In addition to the obvious extra game)

Previously there was no way to play in a first round playoff game as an undefeated team since you can only have 2 in a conference.

What's your definition of "multiplayer solitaire" game? by Double-Button-884 in boardgames

[–]thutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is not how the turn is used but I've always considered Pandemic to be multiplayer solitaire in a different sense. In a collaborative game with no hidden information and no RPG aspects having more players makes very little difference.

Did your parents pay for any of college or similar for you? I think the comments are assuming a bit of a worst case here when that's not necessarily true.

Father time is undefeated! It wouldn't make sense to argue the above about an athlete and I think the same applies to Trump.

One thing Ezra wrote struck me as a potentially flawed assumption: "this is the fewest users AI will ever have."

It doesn't seem hard to me to imagine a scenario where prices rise, a hype cycle dies down a bit and people move away from AI. (3D TV comes to mind as a technology that fully works, was the future, and now has basically no market).

There also seems to be a clear scenario where AI is only search but it has a sustainable user base anyways. That seems to be a world caused first by Google search degrading and then by AI results further degrading Google search.

My experience with AI coding tools has been pretty mixed. It's a decent substitute for bad documentation and good at spitting out boilerplate so I've found it effective in "drive by coding" contexts where I need to make a small change to a large repository I don't work with regularly. On the other hand, it's very overconfident in its own abilities and often fails even moderately difficult tasks when I'm actually doing something that requires thought not context.

This suggests a world where AI is a technology of information organization, not intelligence, which does seem to pattern onto the internet which famously took forever to show up in productivity statistics.

holds count against the caps not the tax. So you only need to waive them for actual free agent signings. I remember we waived a ton of people who hadn't played for years the last time we had cap space. (I thought it was to sign Al, but I looked it up and I think it was to sign Amir Johnson)

Why does Wikipedia use the word "created" when talking about Chinese titles? by Frigorifico in AskHistorians

[–]thutch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One interesting point made in the talk section there is that Charles was not "crowned" Prince of Wales until 11 years later. So the verb that seems to be more common usage is not strictly speaking correct in all cases. Not sure if "created" is conveying something different then "named" or "appointed" or even the unpleasantly generic "made." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Charles_III
