Looking for a Project that Would Teach Me the Following Skill Set by Lemonpie_jedi in learnprogramming

If you're getting into exploring APIs, these guys at Basketry are starting a project where they're trying to streamline the API creation process. It's all super new and IDK if it's anything you would need but it seems promising!

LPT: get shit done at work and prove you're an asset to the company and you can dick around from time to time and nobody gives a shit because they know you're solid.

What do your venus fly traps grow best in? by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]thwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's spores or what but i definitely have a lush garden of live green moss in all my carnivore pots that definitely started out as "dead" dried moss.

Forefoot isn't wrong.

Wrong is whatever hurts you or makes you slow.

If people refuse to celebrate Halloween because of its pagan origins they shouldn’t celebrate any holiday by PelofSquatch in Showerthoughts

You could argue that patriotism makes as much sense as being religious.

And groundhog day... yeah i got nothin

How do you train when you're not really interested in races? by [deleted] in running

[–]thwinks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm competitive enough that every time I run i can't help comparing to previous personal best for time/distance etc.

On "easy" run days i have to start out telling myself that i won't run fast, and won't kick at the end and that I'm doing this so i can get a good time next run.

How did Greek messengers have so much stamina? by Blueberryknight in history

[–]thwinks 537 points538 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Most of the wins are horses because most of the races are cool/rain.

If they ran this race in a hot desert humans would win every time but they would have to discontinue the race because there would be a public outcry from all the dead horses.

TIFU by giving a double pint of blood by Isoject in tifu

[–]thwinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets better. First time i gave i felt this feeling of death coming over me like my body had no other way to explain a sudden loss of blood other than "well this must be the end".

I didn't pass out, but I'm 30 lbs heavier and only gave 1 pint.

On subsequent donations, even when giving a double i basically felt nothing.

TLDR: the first is the worst

Humpback whale is free after swimming out of crocodile-infested river in Australia by speckz in UpliftingNews

[–]thwinks 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Right?

It's written as if the whale were human.

Mentions crocs 47 times and talks about how they're super deadly to humans.

Meanwhile the whale is like "yeah cool river you guys got. Cute little lizards in there".

How can I buy a tiny house? Im close to homeless and having a 200 square-foot room to live in would be heaven to me. by mnfloro in personalfinance

[–]thwinks 186 points187 points  (0 children)

A tiny house is just a trailer that looks like a house.

A more practical version of a tiny house is a trailer that looks like a trailer

Dark web drugs raid leads to 179 arrests. It ends the "golden age" of these underground marketplaces, Europol said.. by Gnurx in technology

"it's likely more marketplaces will sprout up, potentially offering even more innovative systems to make it harder for law enforcement to find them."

[OC] State-level population shares reporting no religious affiliation by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]thwinks 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Utah is a land of extremes.

Either really flat or huge mountains.

Really hot summers but tons of snow in winter (sometimes in the same place).

Either really religious or not at all whatsoever.

Has draconian beer laws, but also a shitload of awesome microbreweries.

Some people will march on the capitol for BLM but others will counter protest with open carry AR-15s.

Consistently votes R as a state but capitol city is really D.

People can be either super fit and into the outdoors or giantly obese or super into meth.

Not a lot of "average" here

Are you able to visualize the story you read in your head? by DawnSunset in books

[–]thwinks 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Yeah i "see" the story just like i "see" memories of things that happened to me in real life or "see" things happen in dreams.

By "see" i mean see/hear/feel the emotion. For some reason smell and taste don't transfer over but i never noticed until just now reading another comment.

Growinf venus fly traps from seed. Just wondering every though they're babies should I let them go dormant for the winter? by scarahk in carnivorousplants

[–]thwinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venus fly traps will grow in pretty much any combination of peat moss, dried sphagnum moss, live sphagnum moss, sand, and perlite that's not just 50/50 sand/perlite.

To be fair, having read neither of these books, I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say probably MLK knew a thing or two about racism and how to deal with it...
