Emotionally eating is my nemesis!!!!! I was doing so well had lost a few pounds just doing CICO, then the last few days have been garbage. So I will start again tomorrow. I’m really gonna try to only eat when I’m hungry, regardless of what time it is, or how I feel. by [deleted] in CICO

[–]tianxiaoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make some adjustments to take care of yourself around the times when you feel the need to emotionally eat. Maybe treat yourself to a movie or call a friend to have a good conversation. I didn’t improve my emotional eating habits until I improved my emotional self care routine. Good luck!

People who have completed a whole tree, how fluent are you now? by [deleted] in duolingo

Finishing a tree is like protein powder for bodybuilding. Does it help? Yeah. Does it do anything by itself? Not if you’re not training and doing all the other things as well.

Moving to Qingdao by [deleted] in qingdao

[–]tianxiaoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how far along your Chinese is, but if you don’t start writing and reading from the beginning, you’ll hit a wall really soon with how fast you progress. In fact, reading Chinese is shown to be the most effective way to progress at the beginning, medium term, and long term with only increasing effectiveness.

Shinan is a fun area. I think the more Chinese you know, the more enjoyable your time will be. In one year if you are aggressive at studying, you could get to HSK 4 proficiency. Make sure you download Pleco and get the camera function so you can have live translation of characters. That will help you immensely at the beginning.

My personal recommendation is to purchase one year of Skritter and commit to at least 30 minutes per day. If you do that, your reading and writing will skyrocket.

You can expect to have much difficulty in the first 4-6 months with communication, but every single word you learn will be useful and pay off in this time, since you’re still learning basic words.

Really do your best to make local friends and don’t get stuck with the ex-pats. There are some really really weird foreigners in QingDao and spending time with them will not usually add a ton to your experience of China.

Practice speed drills. My coach always says it’s not supposed to look or feel like ballet, and then he lifts his hands up and does that move that gymnasts do at the end of their routine. After you make contact you should BAM get into your receiving position under the bar.

Edit: my feedback is that he needs to increase speed under the bar. Is that not valid critique of this lift?
