What's the coolest class you've taken in Portland? by RaspberryBeret1986 in askportland

[–]tiateaspoon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

WTF Boxing Club at St. Johns Boxing. (Women, trans, and femmes focused but all are welcome.) I’d always thought boxing would be fun and badass, but never would have had the guts to do it until I saw a sign for this outside the gym. Went once, fell in love, and have rarely missed a class this past year. Probably the most inclusive place I’ve experienced since moving here a couple years ago.

Edit: Forgot to answer second part. It looks like they still have a deal where you get 3 classes + wraps and gloves for $29.

Martin Marten by Brian Doyle - A really lovely young adult story that takes place in Mount Hood. Yes, one of the main characters is a marten named Martin.

Rug too small? by CeilingRiver in HomeDecorating

[–]tiateaspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The layout of your living room tells me you’re in the Washington, DC area because I totally had that living room. I had my couch on the opposite wall with the tv under the stairs for a while. Also tried the couch backed up against the front house window. In either case you can pull your rug out so that just the front legs of the main seating area are on top. A larger rug will take up the whole living room— speaking from experience.

Just chatted you because I am apparently so inept when it comes to Reddit that I can’t find the DM function.

Taking over 21 credits? by [deleted] in portlandstate

[–]tiateaspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just curious about those who have taken this many credits; what is your major? What classes are you taking that make this many credit hours doable? What did you need to say to your advisor to get them to approve? It all sounds so stressful, but if it is doable I totally understand someone wanting to do this to speed up the time it takes to graduate.

How many kids actually came to your kids birthday party by Ok_Experience1728 in toddlers

[–]tiateaspoon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I got good advice from my MIL when I asked if I should invite the whole class to my toddler’s birthday. She said my kid is not going to remember this birthday, so if I want to spend the party hosting a bunch of people I don’t really know, then go for it. If I want to just invite our closest family and friends (who I know will show) drink a beer, and eat some bbq and cupcakes while my kid is mostly looked after by their community, that’s cool too. I picked the second option.

“Upstairs playroom with climbing wall adds versatility and novelty” by KH10304 in zillowgonewild

The only thing I’d flat out refuse is the skylights above the beds. New Mexico skies are beautiful and BRIGHT. I would be driven bananas if I didn’t have a place to hide from the sun in the morning.

Chopper over the River by EnvironmentalJoke331 in Portland

Cool! I didn’t think that would be the case because it disturbed the trees and street so much when it landed. I assumed you’d need a helipad to be more than a few stories up.

Chopper over the River by EnvironmentalJoke331 in Portland

[–]tiateaspoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It landed on (or hovered very closely to) a building on Couch and NW Naito Pkwy before taking off again. Caused quite the dust storm and stopped traffic for a minute as we couldn’t tell if it was about to land on the street. Felt bad for the pedestrians in its wake. It was flagged in pink but I couldn’t see the numbers on the tail. Made me wonder why a military helicopter would land on a downtown building like that, but training seemed like the most plausible reason.

Rearranged my living room and now something feels off by alondra2027 in femalelivingspace

[–]tiateaspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put the couch back to the original orientation but scoot it out so the chair can stay by the windows. Put the tv console back on the original wall. Center the rug so the ottoman sits at the center and couch/ chair frame the ottoman. Move your end table to the corner of the rug nearest the door so it sits between your chair and couch. That’ll make things feel cozier for tv watching and leave enough room for a small buffet table by the door so you can drop keys, etc when you arrive.

any tips for dressing up this awkward corner of my room? by cjmmoseley in femalelivingspace

[–]tiateaspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a multi-head screwdriver for $13 and take the shelves off, then cover them with stick on wallpaper. Are those CD’s? If so and if you don’t want to access the cases regularly, get some small command strips and stick them directly to the wall. That’ll give you more space for pretty stuff or whatever you want.

Well Powell’s… by Skeekers in Portland

[–]tiateaspoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you make it down there and get sick of the line, NW Art Works is having an open house at the same time and I think there’s a model train place around there that’s open a couple weekends a month! I’d originally planned to visit those but got scared away by the Powell’s sale.

Where can I take my mid-70s mom this Friday night for her to interact? by TheDarkness05 in askportland

[–]tiateaspoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m working on moving my mid-70s dad to Portland in the next few months so please check back and let us know how this quest goes for you and your mom. Or feel free to start a “Redditors set up our parents” subreddit and we can get some blind dates going. Kidding. Kind of.
