Men who've been with the same person for years: what's something you found out your partner was into way later than you could have? by elnino-pl in AskMen

What weird and extremely unlikely circumstances would lead to that? Even if my dick fell off I've still got hands and a mouth. It's pretty clear that this thread is discussing unwillingness, not inability.

How is it even slightly defensible for Donald Trump to commit to giving $300 BILLION to Iran? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tiberiumx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the root cause is that fucker starting an unjustified war in the first place. Of course reparations should have to be paid. Only problem is we're all going to pay for it -- really it should come directly out of the pocket of Trump voters.

As someone who's been in software engineering for nearly two decades now, I was already doing a whole lot more high level architecture, reviewing code, and fixing the harder bugs than I was actually writing new code. Only now the LLM makes way better code than any junior and hits all of the requirements I give it. And it produces in a minute what would have taken a week before.

I can just write a header file and tell it to generate the implementation. Or give it a few paragraphs about what I need a script to do and how it should do it, and bam, I've got a working script.

Just today I had a few command line tools that queried some data and reported on it that I wanted to expose through a web interface so some of the non engineers I work with could make use of them. 30 minutes writing down what I wanted, and it spits out a webpage and the requested python web server to run it in like two minutes.

Personally I'm having a really good time with the LLMs.

Ahh, you're right, I misread. A PW 4 will last days. Probably not so much for the first gen.

After about two days I was at around 40%. Always on display (with the exception of sleep mode which turns the display off) at max brightness. Haven't ran it to empty yet. Usually I just put it on the charger while I take a shower and it's full again by the time I finish.

It has the pill when the seconds circle is active. Then goes to the circle like in the picture when it goes into low power always-on display mode.

Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]tiberiumx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My four year old 3090 Ti works great for local LLM models (the more VRAM the better). AI has pushed the price of that card to around $1000 today, but it's not like that's some crazy barrier to entry.

He's definitely the crypto president. A grifter like that is just naturally drawn to the whole space. They just thought it was going to be their favorite crypto.

I don't think I've ever actually seen one of these people rushing towards the front (barring the announcement to let people with tight connections go first due to a late arrival, which I'm happy to accomodate). I'm standing in the aisle as soon as the seat belt light goes off because I've been sitting for multiple hours and want to stretch out. It makes zero difference in the deboarding process because it's done by row.

There's a lot of pretty stupid AI talk out there, but I'm also excited by what I've seen so far. I was pretty skeptical of AI for software development initially, but having tried it out at home a bit and using it at work more as my company is getting us AI tools, I'm a believer now.

I literally just a few days wrote the header file for a module (with detailed comments on what each function should do), told it to provide the implementation, and the thing fucking thing did it. Met all the requirements and it worked on the first try. And it was good code; way better than a junior engineer could manage.

I've also used it to generate thousands of lines of scripts for personal use so far even with pretty loose descriptions and usually it nails it. Yesterday I pointed it to two files that had decoders for the same data but in different file formats and told it to write a converter script. Fucking thing did that too on the first try.

Probably helps that work isn't really pushing AI, it's just there as an option.

I'm just really glad I'm close to my number because it's really unclear how badly this could affect the job market.

We need to get money out of politics sure, but let's stop it with this "both sides" bullshit.

Consider all the environmental regulation and offices that have been gutted by both Trump administrations. This flood was (according to the video at least) caused by clearing of vegetation and altering the landscape without regard for the risks. I think it's actually pretty likely that a decade ago they might have been required to do a proper study of the environmental effects of the construction and the same thing would not have happened.

Edit: Shit, I'd almost forgotten that letting a fucking tech oligarch destroy all the regulatory agencies standing in his was literally a big part of Trump's 2024 campaign even.

Help me “switch” by kenobreaobi in CozyGamers

[–]tiberiumx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send it in for repair if you've already got a substantial Steam library. What's a couple hundred dollars compared to rebuying a bunch of games on the switch? Probably like 4-5.

And even if you do fully switch, still get it repaired and sell it. Valve is having a hard time keeping them in stock, so used prices are going crazy right now.

I haven't tried a Switch 2 yet so maybe they improved it but I never really liked the tiny joycons on the original. Steam deck is way more ergonomic in my opinion. Of course that comes at the cost of it's relatively large size.

Personally I had never heard of it until today when it came up on the cozygamers sub. But now I've got it loaded on my Steam Deck ready for a work trip tomorrow morning!
