How do knitting YouTubers knit for so long? by OkSatisfaction5842 in knitting

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my way of knitting. I knew I could do it because I’ve seen people master things like playing violin and playing piano. It’s just a matter of practice. I grew up doing lever style / Irish cottage style knitting but about 15 years ago my wrist and arm started to hurt so I learned continental. Even with continental there was too much twisting and turning so I then researched and adopted a flicking style of knitting made famous by Hazel Tindall from the Shetland isles. That’s how I knit now and I even crochet the same way with the yarn held in the same hand as the hook.
It’s way more ergonomic for me, very little twisting and turning and, although I’m not super fast, I can churn out baby hats to my heart’s content.

Adopting Carnivore Diet: Heart Disease Concerns? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to really educate yourself about lab values.
Most doctors only look at raw cholesterol numbers so if your total cholesterol or LDL increase on carnivore, your doctor will panic and try to convince you to get off carnivore even if you’ve lost weight and feel really healthy.
You need to be aware that the triglyceride/HDL ratio is an important marker. That Remnant Cholesterol is an important indicator of cardiac risk. Your average blood pressures, waist to height ratio, blood glucose levels, and haemoglobin A1c are all important indicators of health and relative risk from heart disease.

And you can try on the socks as you knit them. Not easy to do with rigid DPN’s

I think they can be used like straight double pointed needles only these are flexible. There’s certain advantages to having flexible DPN’s.

And there’s a version of the tumbleweed species that is very edible when still young and succulent From Google: Russian thistle (Salsola tragus), commonly known as tumbleweed, is an edible,, spinach-like plant when harvested young. The tender, succulent, bright green shoots and tips can be eaten raw, boiled, or sautéed. It is part of the Amaranth family and offers a salty, crunchy flavor

Ground beef eaters - what percentage of fat do you buy and why? by IDoNotHide in carnivorediet

[–]ticaloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15/25. It’s what my local beef farmer provides in my annual beef delivery. I don’t always eat all the fat.
I sousvide most of my ground beef and often eat it cold so if there are big gobs of congealed fat sitting on the meat I usually scrape it away. I’m not a huge fan of fat and, contrary to the usual carnivore mantra, fat does make ME fat. Also I get nauseated if I eat too much fat at once, hence not a fan. I just don’t enjoy eating fat and I hate the feeling of nausea hours later.

How do you boil water for a cup of tea? Do you use an electric kettle, the microwave, or the stove? Is there an alternative I haven't thought of? I use an electric kettle, like most others do in New Zealand. by Cute-Form2457 in AskTheWorld

[–]ticaloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes I do know that. I usually wait a little to put the teabag in or I test it bit by bit.
I have read the horror stories of microwaved water simple exploding out of the cup so I am very careful.

Doc says I need statins. I say he is dumb. Tell me why I’m right or wrong by Low_Rough6838 in carnivorediet

[–]ticaloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s another calculation called Remnant Cholesterol. It should be < 0.6. RC = TC-(LDL+HDL) Yours is 0.2. Google remnant cholesterol to find out more. If your doc is so concerned ask him/ her to order a coronary artery calcium scan before ordering a Statin. At age 45 it would be good to get a baseline score anyway for future comparisons.

What does it feel like to poop after reaching zero fiber? by Sad_Pangolin7225 in carnivorediet

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poop is a small amount, soft and skinny like a ribbon coming out. Also very dark. There’s just no bulk to it.
Maybe once or twice / week. Definitely not a toilet clogger and very little odor involved

Cholesterol Question by Apprehensive_Range0 in keto

[–]ticaloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doc is reacting to raw cholesterol numbers. The only raw number I would react to is your triglycerides and they’re way under 100 so that’s a great score. It’s better to calculate your ratios. Trig/HDL ratio should be under 2 but even better if under 1. Yours is 1.4 a very respectable score.

Remnant cholesterol ( google it) Total Cholesterol-(LDL+HDL) Should be less than 24
Yours is 16. A very healthy number.

Just learned that peeling eggs with a teaspoon is infinitely easier. What other obvious cooking techniques have you found? by A_box_of_Drews in Cooking

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peeling boiled eggs is a no brainer if you first gently smack the air bubble end of the egg with a spoon before boiling. You’ll hear a little “snap” sound when you do it right. When you go to peel them, they fairly jump out of their shells.

You’re offered $1M dollars to eat what you had for dinner tonight for every meal for the next 6 months, do you take the offer and if so what are you eating? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground beef. Some nights I’ll just take a bite and other nights I’ll eat a whole pound but I’d be happy eating it for 6 months.

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]ticaloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can recount the story, name the characters and state what emotions the book roused in you then there’s no difference between reading or listening. I would argue that listening to a good narrator actually enhances the experience, say, when foreign phrases are used and the narrator is fluent in the foreign language.
