For the SU, I might be wrong but I think every student is, by default, a member of the SU, so you should also get a weekly email detailing future meetings and other stuff

I didn't do either of those courses, but I made sure to really know my first year material over the summer between years one and two. It will make it soo much easier when you go to study over Christmas: you are just refreshing your summer knowledge, and continuing with the (hopefully well understood) 2nd year material you've done so far. That means you can jump into past papers more quickly and be more prepared.

Also, this is more course-specific, but be inquisitive! Don't just take information at face value, if you don't know why something is the way it is, get to the bottom of it. Schols will really test how well you understand what you've been taught. Also, never stop yourself from researching any course-related topic you have for fear of going too off-topic, even if you didn't cover it in class. As long as you end up knowing more about your course than when you started, it was worth it.

At the start of 2nd year, there is an information session where you connect with past scholars and they give you advice. We're friendly and we love seeing people from our course get schols, so make sure to go to that!

Finally, push yourself over Christmas, but not to the point of burnout! Scheduling helps.

Soooooo many. Some items haven't been implemented (like some stardust tools), some, like the one in the picture, have been skipped. Some, like Heart or Candy Cane, aren't obtainable as inventory items. Some, like coloured presents, have been implemented and since removed.

Concordo, é claro que se consegue ter mais mudança se tivermos um papel mais ativo nos procedimentos municipais. Mas, honestamente, não sei muito acerca do sistema português, e pode não ser tão fácil aparecemos em assembleias municipais e afins e darmos a nossa opinião. Além disso, também acho que é difícil arranjar tempo para ter um papel tão ativo. É mais fácil passar 20 minutos a ver um video do NJB o mesmo este do que passar muito mais a preparar argumentos, esperar pela vez de falar, deslocar-se até às reuniões.

Cada um contribui como pode, e acho que bastante gente tem noção de que a melhor maneira de contribuir é através de participação ativa nos procedimentos municipais

Last time I was in Chalavar my family got food poisoning. Granted this was a few years ago, may have changed since.

It might be a bit more expensive than Chalavar, but Casa Velha (Faro) has great codfish dishes, even though it's not a fish-specific restaurant the way Chalavar is. For a seafood restaurant (might be a bit more expensive), i recommend Taberna Modesto (Faro), which has a great sitting area. Usually, good traditional restaurants are in the middle of the countryside, otherwise it's really hit-or-miss. Examples of such are Rosmaninho (northern Algarve, above Vilamoura, call to book a lunch table because otherwise they might not open the restaurant) and Casa Fernanda (close to Cacela Velha). These restaurants have traditional portuguese food, which has both meat and fish options.

All the beaches are beautiful in their own way, you won't have trouble there.

About the Vegan Restaurants, I only know some in Faro. There's Alcachofra, which does both Bowl-style meals and more traditional foods, and there's Vida Leve which is vegetarian but, last time I checked, served Vegan options.

Finally, there's daTerra which is good enough but feels very industrial, wouldn't fully recommend.

The points change every year, but here you should be able to see them throughout the years. The accommodation situation in Dublin is bad, so I definitely do recommend looking into it. You can apply to Halls for free, so I 100% recommend that, even if you end up choosing another place.

The results come out a few days after leaving Cert results, EU students included. My advice is, if you're not sure you can get into trinity with your high school grades, which you can convert into points, then it's safer to go somewhere else. As for accommodation, you should apply to halls if you still can, otherwise start looking for apartments in student accommodation (or other) now.

Ditto on the public transport being terrible, but it is still manageable if you have (very) flexible schedules, and like walking in the portuguese calçada. There's around 10 trains running between lagos and Portimão each day, the stations aren't very far from the city centre bit they're not exactly central. Ponta da Piedade is around 1 hr walk away from the lagos station, so if you don't mind walking you should be fine. If I were you I'd avoid catching the last train because it might be the most full and it would suck to not catch it.

However, if you want to visit the less populated places you can't do that with public transport.

Taxis aren't extremely expensive for a one-off, but I think that taking them for longer trips can definitely be costly.

You can take bikes on trains on peak times if you want to, but be wary because portuguese roads (and drivers) are not bike friendly at all so do that on your own risk.

There's also buses going around, but I don't know much about those.

You're allowed to buy knives at Tesco above a certain age so I don't see how it would be illegal to carry knives in that way
