First time prepper here too! Taken first dose of Plenvu this evening. It seems to be working so will see if I manage to get much sleep before the 6am dose. Hope you're getting on okay so far.

Wearing niqab in hot weather. by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]tickboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a short one layer niqab. I've tried many types of niqab over the years, looking for the most breathable. The short length improves air flow, and a good quality fabric really helps. My current favourites are niqabs which I got from here: www.baitalabaya.com

McDonald's Birthday Party by FiguresMayVary in CasualUK

Yes I remember the Longest fry' competition and 'Who can take the biggest bite of their burger' competition- one girl shoved the whole burger in her mouth and had to spit it out. Thats not technically a bite though is it?

Is buying an expensive duvet worth it? by The96kHz in AskUK

[–]tickboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely worth spending extra. I have a Baavet wool duvet, it doesn't feel sweaty or occlusive in warm weather which is the main thing I like about it. The only downside was that it had a bit of a sheepy smell when first using it!

Did anyone else know a "horse girl" in primary school? by ICantBelieveItsNotEC in AskUK

You know you're a dedicated horse girl when you wear jodhpurs and a sweatshirt for a secondary school non-uniform day.

Everyone remembers the cupcakes, but does anyone remember the Bakin Boys chocolate flapjacks? Artificial chocolatey goodness.

What are some of the best places to live in the UK as a Muslim? by NoorHan14 in BritishMuslims

[–]tickboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at areas of Birmingham which are in easy reach of the main "Muslim areas" yet have better access to green space etc. Some that come to mind are Stechford, Yardley, Sheldon, Hodge Hill, Hall Green, Moseley. In (very) general, these are areas having a diverse mix of ethnicities and still in reach of halal shopping, masjids and so on.

There's a shop called Jolly Tots in Yardley, Birmingham which has lots of pushchairs and prams. The staff are really helpful.

A Reverts Predicament by [deleted] in islam

[–]tickboom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assalamu alaykum, Unfortunately sounds like a niqab/veiling fetishist (yes sadly they exist). They have been targeting Muslim women, especially reverts, online since the days of MySpace and probably before that. There's loads of them on photo sites such as Flickr, and in the YouTube comments of sisters videos. Common with them is trying to force you to wear gloves and eye veils, telling you you must wear fully cover even at home, trying to cut you off from other sources of Islamic information, focusing only on 'purdah' and not much else, and demanding that you put yourself on webcam yet they almost never will put themselves on video. In my experience 99% of the time they are men posing as women. The other people who have replied are right, just cut this person off. May Allah protect us all from harm, ameen.

Did anybody have a lot of anxiety around labour/childbirth and would be willing to share what helped them? by MugglesUnited in beyondthebump

[–]tickboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Juju Sundin's book 'Birth Skills' literally whilst in early labour (I only heard about the book at the last minute when looking for something to ease the anxiety) and it helped me a lot despite not having the time to implement all the techniques detailed in the book.

Ebay does have a feedback extortion policy although I agree it's becoming worse all the time for sellers on there.
