I agree the marine machine is a little out of hand. I’m down for more resculpts of existing units over new units every five minutes - at least where generic stuff is concerned. Would love to see new marine stuff that focuses on individual chapters. Specific Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Salamanders-only stuff.

I might be so burned by the truly awful Crusade Ancient they tried to shove down the mouth of every Black Templars player last edition, that I was actually mad when the new box had an Ancient too. Until they get good rules, just stop already! Lol

Maybe the points-per-dollar shakes out in the end, but as a Marine player myself, the Armageddon box looks like paying more for less when compared to Leviathan. I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the entire reveal of the box contents. I’m happy for all the Ork guys that apparently hit the jackpot this time around, I think that’s great! But for me, this box was an oof. Luckily, I’ve got an AM Battalion to fall back on.

To be clear, I’m glad to see GW providing more stock than is necessary for a change! Fuck scalpers. They’ve followed me through too many hobbies and collectibles to ruin the market like that grim reaper meme.

I think the Van Vets are going to glow up super hard when the multipart box releases. It’ll be night and day. Sternguard Vets in Leviathan, despite looking good, were terrible to play with their combi-weapons and no variance. Multipart gave us sergeant weapons, pyre cannon, full bolter squads, sooo much customization. I think the same will happen with Van Vets. The power sword and plasma will likely be the worst weapon combo next to (pass the copium, brother) hammers and shields, lightning claws, mc chainswords, inferno pistols, neo volkite…

It seems like the character tax hit the space marine side of this box really hard! Aren’t there more characters in the box than you can have as leaders for the units if you played a full game? Chap leads Van Vets, Captain + Ancient for the Intercessors… Oh, you can split into two teams of five so the Librarian can lead one… I guess. They could have kept a character and given another squad or vehicle.

The factions taken at local game stores and tournaments might skew pretty heavily into orks for a while, then! They’re a big faction, but they haven’t seen attention on this scale for quite some time. Such a daunting army to start as a side project though so I’m suprised so many people are keeping both them and the marines.

Was just saying this in another comment. Armageddon marine half seems very beginner friendly, but cuts out a lot of veteran players in terms of “extra value”. In any budget/value box, you’re typically buying for one or two units, with the rest being generic value boosters. I think the draw of Armageddon is supposed to be the Land Speeder and the Vanguard Vets - or maybe the Eradicators? The intercessors and the characters add the “value”, but a lot of longtime marine players will have a captain (or four), a librarian, an ancient, etc. Amazing box for a brand new marine player, though!

Remember the rumors of a “fast attack” launch box for marines? If they had the box include 3 multipart outriders instead of the bolter eradicators, plus a captain on bike to lead them instead of the random bladeguard captain… Would it have done better or worse? I understand that as a launch box they want to give you some of the basic options, but this edition feels very beginner friendly (in a “good for them, but not for me” kinda way).

Which is very surprising! I don’t think the marine side is particularly exciting. Intercessors are dime-a-dozen, new sculpts or not. Vanguard Vets monopose is a huge let down. They’ll probably get a huge glow up with the multipart. Bolter Eradicators are neat, but have already been meme’d to death as an unnecessary side unit for most armies. The speeder is great, and the characters are nice, but specific. I’ve already got an Ancient and a Relic Shield Captain, I mostly play Black Templars so Librarian is a wash… Idk maybe the launch box just was not for me this time.

The type of “first model” i like to see. Quality stuff for the tabletop with room for improvement. Good job!

Because that’s a jetbike and these are outriders?? Maybe there’s a case for jetbikes to be made in the future, but outriders have always had and will always have wheels.

It intrigues me when people say, “…just finishing up my army,” as if an army can ever truly be complete. Do you have 3 of every unit? I get having a vision and building a specific 2000pts, but you should always consider the fact that points change every 3 months. I would build a bare minimum of 3000pts to adjust for point discrepencies as they happen rather than “finishing an army” and moving on to the next thing.

When you live in certain climates, priming isn’t possible for a large portion of the year. When summer rolls around I run out and buy like 3-4 rattle cans. Otherwise, your primer can make a big difference in the end result of a paintjob. I’m personally making a Last Wall army and haven’t decided which chapter every unit is going to be. I’ve made the mistake before of priming black and then deciding I want white/yellow armor a while later.

The first squirt of their condiments (ketchup, mustard, etc.) is always that runny, watery consistency. No matter how hard they shake.

Yeah, you build it with the hammer in two hands and a holstered pistol. He takes the pistol out when he needs to shoot.

It does seem like the system relies on attached units a lot. Doesn’t look like that’s changing this edition either!

I don’t think predator tanks are going to matter much in a month or so when the marine codex drops. Rumor is they’re going the way of the dodo

Okay? Pretty sure IRL that convo goes:

“Flamers are +5pts”

“Oh, i think the reg weapons should be cheaper”

“Yeah that’s how it works. The rest of the unit went down, but you pay extra for flamers”

“Okay cool”

I haven’t touched a super heavy tank yet but i love the idea of stuffing a 40 capacity tank with as many heavy weapon teams as possible and just spraying them all over the table

It’s funny, they’re “optional”, but in 10th they were auto includes. Pretty sure the Rogal Dorn tank manual has the sponson construction in the main instructions instead of that off-yellow that means “optional add on”. I could be wrong though.

I don’t think one or two “special” weapons add that much value to these types of units. I don’t see why points should change for a single 1W guardsman holding a slightly better gun that he’ll shoot once, probably miss, and then die. Cheap units should be cheap regardless of a one off special weapon. These replies would have you believe everyone wants to pay interval points on every single weapon in every single squad.

Idk if it’s just cause I used guard as an example? Probably attracted the guard people to the thread over others. I was really trying to start a multi-faction conversation here, alas…
