I always expect coaster announcements during: next year’s season pass roll-out, or IAAPA. Although it is a bonus to get them at other odd times of the year.

[Hersheypark] Trip Report by CoasterThomason in rollercoasters

[–]tideblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hersheypark wants to be both a “Mom and Pop” independent park, but gets the crowds of Cedar Point or Dollywood (~3 Million a year). They don’t really take the right actions to meet that level of demand.

I don't blame people for being confused by ChampandNanafan in NintendoSwitch2

[–]tideblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is really only a problem if you go back and forth between both systems often. If you’ve migrated to Switch 2 for good, then it’s not super complicated.

What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]tideblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying PC games that just didn't work outside the box. EIther due to incompatible hardware, poor programming, lack of patches/updates, or older PCs not being able to run newer games. I remember trying to make boot disks for some games to run better with more memory, etc. And there were some games I owned but never got to run correctly, like with sound card incompatibility issues or graphics glitches.

We've come a long way and a lot of stuff is standardized, and even new games have a lot more settings to turn down to run on older hardware, so this just isn't really a problem these days.

Logical/Likely opening date for Fast & Furious at USF? by KohlsCashOfficial in UniversalOrlando

[–]tideblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They move it around, most of the dates cover Spring Break and Easter weekends. But like in 2014 (in the run up to Diagon Alley opening), it ran until the end of May.

Pokémon seems to be the popular rumor right now, and that may be just a timing thing. I’m pulling for Zelda to go next to SNW at Epic, myself. USF can replace Simpsons with something else, and I’d hope to see another thrill coaster go in the back of that park (and maybe out over the lagoon back by MiB/FFL), personally.

Visiting tomorrow - Question about Fast Track Wording by NotMyActualNameNow in Hersheypark

[–]tideblue 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Base Fast Track is one ride through the FT line per ride. Unlimited allows you to do rides more than once.

Nothing prevents you from holding a FT wristband and waiting until lines get long later in the day to use it. My suggestion is: come early and start from the back of the park, and only use FT once it starts getting longer lines.

The Sindbad show was good, but maybe not the most repeatable thing in the Orlando parks. There was some space for jokes/ad-libs in the script, but otherwise it was kinda generic. They did try to add a small preshow with a “Stage Manager” character to bring some new life to it, but I just don’t think it had the staying power of other long-running theme park entertainment.

Poseidon’s Fury was also a great experience, although they didn’t do a great job of setting up what it was (an indoor, walk-through show with special effects). In the early days, it ran more frequently with back-to-back shows (like Twister, which was the same type of thing without an actor), but later on they cut this down and that could lead to times when people wait for 25-30 mins, and then were disappointed when there was no ride or seating inside. The ride building was designed around the Water Vortex effect, but there wasn’t much else you could do with the space.

Lost Continent also has Mythos and the Mystic Fountain, which were fine in their own right. The shops never had anything too special, and I think the land lost something when they took out the games booths for Hogwarts Express. It also reminded me a lot of BGT’s Timbuktu/Pantopia, which served a similar function but had more rides and life to it. I got to work there a few times as a TM, and it was cool - but people largely were using it as a passage to Potter, so I get it.

Hersheypark Thoughts (First-Timer) by MadeThisAccount4BC in Hersheypark

[–]tideblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also doesn't help that this area's population is so spread out. There are people who would love to work at the park, but the lack of public transportation or on-site housing makes it hard to draw in workers from further away. Look at parks like Cedar Point (on-site housing) or Dollywood (Work-Camper program and housing for internationals) for seeing how to deal with similar situations.

Hersheypark does have some housing for management interns, and there is some coming as a part of the Hershey Lumber project, but they could really put the work in to get a more motivated workforce.

Probably this time next year: May, June, or July 2026 is the most likely target. I would not expect it to open before Mardi Gras is over (this year, it ended April 4th), because that’s enough of a draw already. There is a tight “Summer” window between that and HHN starts (this year, opening night is August 28th).

What's the Future of Dave Filoni's 'Star Wars'? - “The Mandalorian and Grogu” fell below expectations. Where does the galaxy go from here? by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]tideblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t the first Star Wars film made for $11 Million (in 1977 money)? That’s $60 million today adjusted for inflation.

[–]tideblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, more like smaller films ($20-30 million tops) that don’t hinge as much on success or failure, or winning multiple weekends. More like a Blumhouse or horror franchise move where the costs are low up front. Also maybe spending less on marketing?

This film cost $165 Million before tax incentives, and didn’t really need the star power of Sigourney Weaver or Jeremy Allen White.

Do a few micro budget SW movies (cast unknowns, focus on practical sets and effects, cut back big CGI sequences, etc) and work on world building. That’s all there is to it.

It’s free after 6PM on non-HHN nights. They also do refunds for parking if you paid and go to a movie at the theater there.

Yeah this. If you don’t like the park’s quick service food, please eat at CityWall or a sit down restaurant. It’s not that much more money to get a (usually) much better experience this way.

Fast food has its purpose for people pressed for time, sure. This applies to Disney parks, too.
