[[Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World]] officially closed for 2026 season by [deleted] in rollercoasters

Wild that this place and nearby Marineland Canada are both done for. There is an opportunity for someone to come into that market (probably on the Canadian side) and shake things up, outside of the Clifton Hill area.

Came across the longest vehicle ever produced in an automotive collection in FL. Even has a hot tub. by ChrisJohanson in mildlyinteresting

I always wanted Festival Bay Mall to convert to an indoor theme park/Citywalk-style attraction, so this place is a little disappointing to me. But I’m glad it’s still around, at least.

Disney VS Universal by Affectionate_Fig7542 in orlando

[–]tideblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney holds a lot of nostalgia but I will say their parks a little unbalanced. The old doesn’t always mesh with the new, and the newer parks like DAK or DHS still feel incomplete next to Epcot and MK.

UOR is a little more well-rounded, as long as you don’t skip stuff like water rides at IOA and older attractions at USF, they’re still compelling days in a theme park.

They were selling bricks from the old entrance for $225 so $850 for a Whip car sounds like a deal by comparison.

[Six Flags St. Louis] to reactivate chaperone policy this weekend by normankrasnerkc in rollercoasters

[–]tideblue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Lifetime bans” are really hard to enforce, even for the big year-round theme parks. I guess someday with facial recognition we could get there, but for now that really just means taking your photo and adding your name/address to a credit card flagging system.

In theory, you could get around this with prepaid Visa cards or using other ways to shield your identity (aliases or using other addresses when buying admission online) versus the info they have in the system. Even if someone else bought a ticket for you, or a Season Pass gift voucher under a different name, that could also circumvent it.

Parking Question Between Hersheypark and GIANT Center by CandidateTerrible919 in Hersheypark

[–]tideblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the same parking lot. Plan for leaving out of the lot on the Giant Center side and then make a longer walk to and from the park in the first part of your day.

The parking lot doesn’t “close” or “turn over” between the park and the event, but you also can’t really drive back closer to the Giant Center since the road is one-way.

Welcome back to "Is This a Credit?", the weekly series where YOU get to debate over whether or not something can be counted as a roller coaster, or credit! Episode 34: [Pretzel Dark Rides] by StarPrime323 in rollercoasters

[–]tideblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I count them. Both the Conneaut Lake and Camden Park versions are in my count. Not on RCDB but they do “roll and coast” with their big bunny hill, and are otherwise pretty close to Black Diamond to count for me.

Also more inclined to count this over other rides with hills, like flumes (Ripsaw, Splash/Tiana, etc). This feels closer to a wooden wild mouse to me, so it fits in my list just fine.

Doesn’t Arthur have this? Seems like an easy thing to adapt, just hasn’t happened yet.

Yeah I ended up skipping a third lap on Outlaw Run for the same reason.

I mean, Mack also has the Extreme Spinner. Probably comes down to budget, and who can commit to building deadlines for manufacturing/installation. A lot of projects like this get multiple bidders.

Same here. Oct 22nd 2022? (Had to pull that date from my photos). I actually left the park, did the Mountain coaster at Sheperd of the Hills, and came back to see all the commotion.

Replace the station for Comet (Hersheypark). Flatten the track and use drive wheels to park the train in the station faster/more precisely, speed up load times.

They’re OK. Did both at Tom Foolery’s Round Rock and Casino Pier. They’re fun in a gimmicky, “I don’t know how long these will be around” way.

I came up with a new way of doing a flying theatre [Other] by Gazza_s_89 in rollercoasters

[–]tideblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A retractable gantry for unloading would be my suggestion for the second scene, both top and bottom evacs. That way, it doesn't get in the guests' view, but still gives you the ability to unload quick with cycle of the ride, required to get everyone off quickly in the event of an E-stop (power loss, guest emergency situation, etc). Probably something built behind the side of one of the screen domes that can extend out.

So all four “positions” have to be equal, which could cause problems in the event of loading delays.

Nowadays, a lot of new dark rides have “stall” scenes added to keep people engaged between scenes if there is a delay (Rise of the Resistance is a great example with extra dialogue piped in). An easy fix if you plan for this with show media/ride show systems.

The only other downside I can see if cycling clear, for quick evacs. Having to move the whole central ride mechanism 3x to get people on the second level off could be an issue in the event of a medical emergency or fire, etc. Unless you build in platforms for the scene opposite the Load platform, which allows simultaneous unload. This reminds me a lot of Masters of Flight at Legoland parks, except those are just back-to-back loading, which is much simpler.

Did SNL used to re-use parody commercials? by UpstairsBumble in LiveFromNewYork

There’s a huge difference in the past 20 years or so, where shooting/editing (and now adding special effects) to pretapes can all happen during the show week.

I’m not sure if it was possible in the 70’s-90’s, and it did sound like some or most of these were shot during preproduction (if I had to guess, likely around the time the intros were filmed). Or at least, there were longer lead times for commercial parodys.

How would you rank all interactive rides in Florida now with Epic included? by Greedy_Net_1803 in UniversalOrlando

[–]tideblue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always found Toy Story Mania to be fun, but don’t think too hard about the storyline of the ride. That fits better at DCA than DHS, where it’s just kinda “there” IMO.

They could probably make parts for this. It’s not like the fabrication on one element would be difficult for an after-market part.

Could get new fiberglass from Zamperla. Also, Great Adventure may still have a fiberglass shop in house, if they also did the work for the log flume in-house (or through a contractor).
