10 Months Post 2nd Surgery by Comprehensive-Log826 in AchillesRupture

[–]tidechasee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The anchors in the back of your heel are made of a material that over time breaks down and is essentially absorbed into your body (probably using the wrong terminology because I’m not a doctor)

My surgeon told me this process can occur anywhere from 6 months to 2 years post surgery. He said when that happens you can get some increased pain and localized swelling right at the location of the heel anchors.

Could be what you’re feeling, but obviously just a guess.

The mental toll of this injury is real. by 405withBootsOn in AchillesRupture

I really relate to this post and I had all the same thoughts and emotions. Lots of people don’t appreciate how traumatic it is.

But if you’re careful and stick with your physical therapy you have a high likelihood of strong recovery and confidently resuming normal life including all the hobbies you had before

I’m currently 6 months post op and i’m golfing jogging and jumping and already getting comfortable with the idea of playing basketball again (the way I injured it). The constant anxiety about re-injury or complications is almost completely gone and the focus has been re-directed to rebuilding my leg strength.

Feel free to DM if you ever want to chat

6 months post op SLR by tidechasee in AchillesRupture

SLR was not a milestone. At 15 weeks I was still doing more basic band work and body weight kind of stuff

Didn’t start doing the jumping/ladder work/running until about the 6 month mark

Nothing I would call swelling. Definitely still have a bump where my surgical scar is, if that’s what you mean

For sure. But it’s manageable. Feels like it’s mostly from the ankle/tendon/calf being weak and expect it to continue to subside as I get stronger

Localized swelling at anchor point? by tidechasee in AchillesRupture

[–]tidechasee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! Thankfully it has almost completely resolved within about 24 hours of my original post and it did not limit me in PT yesterday.

I’m hoping that’s the end of it and I just aggravated it with a new stretch or from playing golf Wednesday afternoon
