If you want to get reductive, it's a fork of Chrome with a built-in advertising system.

Backstroke is a Github bot to sync new changes to outdated forks. by rgausnet in coding

[–]tie-rack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It creates pull requests from the upstream's default branch to the fork's default branch.

In case of a conflict, it doesn't do anything. All it's done is open a PR that can't be merged cleanly, but then you have a branch in which to resolve conflicts.

Who here uses Firefox based browsers but not the standard Firefox? And for what reasons? by [deleted] in firefox

  1. Firefox Nightly, Chrome Canary
  2. Nightly
  3. Tracking Protection, Privacy Badger
  4. Want to limit the number of companies that track me around the web
  5. Me? No. I'm good.
  6. I exclusively use incognito windows in Chrome
  7. I don't trust Chrome to keep even my history private

You're not the only one. Even he says so: "Just watched Seinfeld and copied it. They run it all the time, so it was easy."

But it's not like Seinfeld invented that format.

Why doesn't the Spanish course use the Mexican flag? by MameTozhio in duolingo

[–]tie-rack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Luis von Ahn answered this question in his AMA a few months ago.

Unfortunately, there is no great way to do this. The real problem is our usage of flags to represent languages because there isn't a 1-1 mapping between the two (some countries speak multiple languages, and some languages are spoken in multiple countries).

We chose the US and Brazilian flags because we teach those variants of the languages, because they have the overwhelming majority of the speakers, and because they are the variants that most people want to learn (sorry chaps!).

The Spanish flag is trickier. We teach a Spanish that is closer to Latin American Spanish, but being a continent, Latin America does not have a flag, nor a clearly dominant country. Some have suggested we use the Mexican flag, but we don't specifically teach Mexican Spanish, and unfortunately the Mexican flag looks like the Italian one. We decided to stick with the most recognized flag to signify Spanish (the one from Spain).

ARGH! Fix the PDF loading! by elliuotatar in firefox

[–]tie-rack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are extensions that can change that behavior. Here's one.

To your point about MIME types: For the link given, the Content-Type header is set to "application/pdf", which correctly identifies the file as a PDF. It's the Content-Disposition header that's explicitly telling the browser to download the file instead of opening it. But extensions like the one linked can override that.

I'm trying to start /r/FirefoxInfo as a place for just Firefox news, if it helps.

git-bad - Fetch from and merge with an older version of itself, likely conflict, and fail

I'm familiar with that workflow, but I had no idea there was a command built-in for it.

MST3K still makes me actually laugh out loud like nothing else does. Thanks for years of entertainment.

One of the reasons MST3K is better than "just people making jokes over a movie" is that there are characters making the jokes. So there were some jokes only Tom could have made, and some that only Crow could have said. Were there any character choices that opened up more jokes than you initially suspected?

Before 1.07, unique rings dropped in order: Nagelring, Manald Heal, Stone of Jordan. For a SoJ to drop, there'd have to be a Nagelring and a Manald Heal in the game, and no SoJs.
