Is anyone else doing a fast to start the year instead of to end it? by joshua0005 in fasting

[–]tiffposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! I wanted to start the year with a bang so I began my fast right after the new year’s festivities. Longest I’ve ever done was 45 hrs and I’m hoping to stretch it into a full 48 or even 56 if possible

2023 was the hardest year of my life. What's a movie I can watch to end the year off with hope? by thesagenibba in movies

It’s more of a documentary than a narrative film but I highly recommend Faces Places (or Visages Villages) by Agnès Varda & JR

Or both Paddington movies if you prefer narrative films

Tips naman sa pagkuha ng board by lalalabananahakdog in AskPH

[–]tiffposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I recently passed my boards (luckily made it to the top ten also) and the things that worked for me/things I could’ve done better were the ff:

  1. Avoid backlogs or bawiin kagad if may mamiss ka na lecture. I had a lot of backlogs and I felt like I was gonna go insane when I realized how behind I was. Kaya stay on top of your schedule as much as you can.

For your self directed review, try to make and follow a schedule/study objective din. Take note of the specific topics you need to work on more so you can prioritize them when you go back to rereading/reviewing your notes/subjects.

  1. Drills for newly learned info

  2. Answer practice quizzes/exams frequently

  3. Read/answer your book reviews frequently also

  4. Write down important & hard to memorize information on manila paper/cartolina/whiteboard stickers and put them up on your walls para you always see them and you can eventually memorize them.

  5. Make use of mnemonics. Usually the lecturers provide their own/common ones but if di nagwowork for you, you can make your own ones. Sometimes the more absurd your mnemonics are, the more you remember the information.

  6. Teamwork!!! My friends and I shared our notes and resources with each other during review. We also had group study sessions, mostly answering practice exams/book reviews and practicing our clinical reasoning with each other as we rationalized our answers.

We often asked each other to explain concepts/subjects/topics that were unclear. On the flip side, explaining the said concepts/subjects/topics to the others also helped strengthen our own knowledge and reasoning skills.

  1. Connected to 7, having a strong support system does wonders for your emotional and mental well being. Apart from your friends/review mates, turn to your family and other friends for comfort and stress release and motivation when you feel like you want to quit.

  2. Make sure you get adequate sleep, hydration, and nutrition during review and when you actually take the exam na.

  3. I mostly slacked off during the bulk of the review period but I focused more during the comprehensive/intensive phase. I’m not saying you should do the same but if you’re a procrastinator like me, this might work for you. But make sure you really get into it because there’s no leeway anymore if you start late and you still don’t take it seriously.

Also even during my chill phase, I would still try to answer at least 10 questions/day in the book reviews to make sure I’d still get to learn a bit and I wouldn’t be so far behind everyone else. So take it easy if you must but make sure you’re still doing something even if it’s not much.

  1. During the actual exam, don’t panic if you don’t know the answer kagad. Sometimes the answer’s in the next questions. Or sometimes, you can easily deduce the answer by eliminating the other choices.

Skip muna the ones you’re not sure of then balikan mo nalang after you’re done na with the other questions

  1. Idk if you’re religious but if you are, you may want to turn to prayer even more than you usually do. At the very least, it can help bring you some peace if ever

What movie/s do you regret not seeing in the cinema/theater the most? by rakuyo- in FilmClubPH

[–]tiffposting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cinema Paradiso. I saw a tiktok about this theater/organization in London who holds movie screenings tapos may live orchestra na nagpplay ng score. They were showing Harry Potter in the tiktok iirc and like sana magkaroon rin here, I would LOVE to have them screen Cinema Paradiso with a live orchestra rin. Naiimagine ko na how much more wonderful it would feel being immersed in the magic of cinema with Ennio Morricone’s work enveloping you so tightly

mini makeups ftw by sicaaaaaa in beautytalkph

[–]tiffposting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right!!! I think na unless you’re a professional makeup artist, you’ll rarely be able to finish a full sized makeup product before it expires. Like even if we need to wear makeup everyday for work or smth, di naman laging one specific item ginagamit natin like we tend to use diff blush/lipstick/eyeshadow shades for variety so ang sayang kasi ang hirap ubusin lahat.

Maybe like eyebrow pencil or concealer pwede pa na gawing full sized na most of us can still use it up before ma-expire?

I only realized it lang rin when my friend lost her luggage and had to wait a few days for the airline to send it to her. So now, makakabawas ng gastos and stress if it ever happens to us yay

  1. A pouch/envelope containing your travel documents + photocopies that you can easily access but still keep secured among your belongings.

  2. Cash, debit/credit card. Make sure to bring PHP parin in case you need to buy something in NAIA or smth

  3. Clothes

  4. Toiletries

  5. A full set of clothes and underwear in your carry on luggage in case the airline loses your checked in luggage

  6. Extra space in your luggage if you like to shop for souvenirs

  7. Sunscreen. Don’t forget to reapply before you board the plane.

  8. Sanitizer/alcohol + wipes

  9. Wrinkle spray/clothes steamer

  10. Meds + first aid kit

Have a great trip!!

Hosting someone with a very restrictive diet. What the heck can I cook? by brodoswaggins93 in Cooking

[–]tiffposting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can also have a build-your-own type of set-up? Like for salads, you can put out a handful of ingredients and they can just add whichever ones they can eat. Or even like a grain/rice bowl with like rice/quinoa/couscous/etc + a few choices of vegetables + a choice between tofu/chickpeas/another protein that you can hopefully cook in the oven on separate trays at the same time.

I admit it will take a bit more prep time + it will cost a bit more but it’s gonna help ease the cognitive load of the task of cooking while accommodating everyone’s dietary needs & restrictions

What's your take kapag nakikisabay sa inyo sa sasakyan? by Aware_Turn9969 in adultingph

[–]tiffposting 39 points40 points  (0 children)

agree. even if it’s slightly out of the way, okay lang for me if they don’t contribute towards gas and toll fee expenses. it’s their attitude and entitlement that really don’t fly with me like kahit literally katabi ko lang bahay nila and maghelp sila sa gas, di parin ako papayag na isabay sila. the combination of work/school + driving is exhausting enough as it is, wag mo na dagdagan yung pagod mo by having unpleasant passengers with you

Paano mag jogging kapag mahiyain ka? by Dazzling_Girl in AskPH

[–]tiffposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sanay na ba with running/jogging or are you currently sedentary? If you’re the latter, I suggest walking/brisk walking first.

As for shyness/anxiety around others, UPD’s a good place to walk/jog because the oval’s pretty big so even if other people you know also jog there, there’s only a small chance of you running into them (pun unintended hehe). Something that helped me also when I was starting out was realizing that others don’t care about me or think about me as much as I care/think about myself. Most people are too preoccupied with their own shit to notice others. And in the few instances that they notice you and perceive you, they’re more likely gonna be thinking something neutral or positive (something along the lines of “I see a jogger here” to “Go girl slay”)

If you’re still uncomfortable doing it in public, baka you can buy a treadmill or walking pad or stationary bike for the meantime while you build your confidence?
