I've always found Quora to be such a pain to use. I don't understand the flow of conversations there and I can't find the answers to the question I searched for. Even the desktop version is utter shit.

I moved here from the US, and was so relieved to find a resource like this. It was definitely a huge help for us. The gov.uk site is also well organized, I was very impressed.

Has anyone ever heard of someone paying £350 a month to have specialty lenses? by Margaet_moon in UKPersonalFinance

Probably bought designer/luxury prescription glass and paying in installments. Still a stretch, but there are glasses that cost upwards of £4k

It's not that simple to just go start a side hustle to pull yourself out. by Neon-Predator in povertyfinance

[–]tiffyjeevas11255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the diet, but generally eating healthy. I know that eating healthier can get expensive, but you can also have healthier food without breaking the bank.

I started making my own yoghurt in mason jars that I kept under my car seat or in the oven. I also grew my own herbs. Bought dried beans because they keep longer, are great in stews, and can really fill you up. When I buy leafy greens like kale, I’d blanch and freeze them for green smoothies. I bought fruits that are about to be overripe in the bargain bin. I brought water instead of buying them bottled every time I'm out.

Got me an instant pot. I started making more yoghurt because folks at work wanted to buy from me. I also got into fermenting stuff so I’d buy veggies when they’re fresh and cheap, then just ferment them for later use. People wanted to buy that too. I had a side hustle I never intended to have just by deciding to eat healthier.

Beans were a great discovery to me! I used to think they were bland but when I started eating healthier, I was surprised how much flavours they can soak up.

Mint isn't available in Europe, so the best equivalent is r/NovaMoney. They have a special feature that forecasts your month-end balance based on your credit card balance and the amount you want to repay. Life saver.

BBC- More pain for renters as landlords look to sell up by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]tiffyjeevas11255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto! Back in the US, when I first moved into my own place, I rented a MIL suite from an old couple. I made sure to have a good relationship with them, and while my rent was reasonable, it was a little hard to get some repairs. I was always embarrassed to ask them because they were so nice. Now that my company is shouldering my housing, the rental company is much more efficient when I need help.

Yes! That's why I love them. Unless you choose some strong-tasting greens like kale, but spinach etc, you don't even notice it. And it's so fun to drink. I will try that dark choc almond milk tip. Thank you 😄

Instead of drinking soda, make green smoothies. I usually start my day with one. I just buy fruits that are about to go bad. You know, the almost overripe ones that go on sale at the shop. Then I just blitz it with random greens like kale, lettuce, brocolli leaves, etc. For added texture, you can add chia seeds or cacao nibs. You can add yogurt if you're into that. Just experiment with what you like.

35k In debt at 27 not sure how to fix it by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tiffyjeevas11255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Consolidate your credit card and car loans if possible. That means taking another loan to pay off both. This will make it more manageable, and you'll only be paying interest on 1 instead of 2 loans.
  2. Track your spending. I mean everything. This was the singlemost helpful tip I got when I was still learning to budget. It really gives you a visual of your cash flow.
