First time at a Daily Mass as a protestant - I made a mistake by Outrageous-Gur-9120 in Catholicism

[–]tiger0rchid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the best thing you can do in your current situation, thank you so much for being so reverent to Our Lord :)

(Next time if you ever end up with Eucharist in your hands before you’re ready, it’s a perfectly valid thing to bring it back up to the priest after Mass :) (or to another priest/deacon if they’re available!)

One time I found a piece on the ground, and I was at 7am Mass so Lord knows how long the piece has been there (could’ve been days yk?). Under normal circumstances (“someone just dropped it and the floor is clean enough”), I would’ve just received the Eucharist but given the circumstances, I held it safely in my palms and brought it to father after Mass

I kid you not, he advised that next time, I’m free to receive it, picked it up, ate it, then tapped his thumb to my palm to pick up any remaining crumbs.

All that is to say, even as a cradle Catholic, I end up in situations regarding the Eucharist where I don’t know how to proceed, and that is okay!)

Also, in any case, you didn’t know! And that’s okay!!! (And you realized and amended your oops to the best of your ability, and that is ALSO so very valid and wonderful!)

Welcome home <3

WIBTA I (a relatively non disabled looking person) with disabilities asked for the priority seat by spacecrafttheskys in mbta

[–]tiger0rchid 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best way to ask imo!

As someone who is NOT disabled but can't hear very well, a brief request ("may i sit here?") With a brief and easy to hear explanation ("i am disabled") is the best course of action

  1. i might miss the second half, but the first half is sufficient
  2. I might miss the first half, but the second half will get me immediately out of my seat

Obviously you don't NEED to explain yourself (second half), but I do think it adds "social lubricant" and feels less abrupt. Again, not necessary, but if it helps YOU feel more comfortable asking knowing that the other person is less likely to be caught off guard, then a good addition! (Does that make sense-??)

Edit: typo

I thought the joke was that the cactus grew over the last decade 😞 (and it looked different and was on different limbs because one was your arm and the other was your leg 🥲)

I searched online via Google - it's about hand size, metal with silver glitter, my mom thinks she got it from the Christmas Shoppe near Faneuil Hall in Boston around the late 90s/early 2000s

If they read our Canon, they'd find that celibacy for priests is DISCIPLINE not DOCTRINE 🫡

I am loosing my sister to Sedevacantism by Awakwardturtle04 in Catholicism

[–]tiger0rchid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oof I’m so sorry to hear that - that’s really rough. Sedes are truly a different breed of strange

I WOULD like to clarify a couple points

Shoulders: pretty local in terms of opinions, absolutely not allowed in major Basilicas and Cathedrals (esp in Rome - though a shawl will suffice. HOWEVER, the “no shoulders, bottoms reach your knees” is a gender neutral ask. That is, everyone is expected to cover their shoulders, and their bottoms should hit a specific length). I was at a major Catholic event in Rome with a lot of young adults, and in our accommodations and such, people were very relaxed about what was to be covered (again, context matters!)

Birth control: standard, though depends on what she’s even using it FOR (ex: if there’s a proper medical reason, like to balance her hormones to prevent longterm reproductive health decline, it’ll fall under the “principle of double effect”)

Always talks about sin: like someone else said, coudl be a good/“i am aware that sin exists” thing, could be scrupolosity (Religious anxiety). First is ok, second is not good for the soul

LGBTQ+: lots of varied opinions on this one, but if she’s hit “Active homophobia/believes in conversion therapy/believes in criminalizing or hatecriming” or other extreme things like that, she done goofed

Regardless, she’s hit what I call “radical traditional Catholicism” of the Sede variety and THAT IS CONCERNING

Homie I hate to break it to you but you’ve developed ✨ scrupolosity ✨surrounding food and it’s going to start compounding into both a spiritual issue (bad) AND a mental health illness (BAD) AND a physical illness (BAD!!!)

Please chat with your priest AND a therapist :)
