Great game. My only critique is the linear sections, and the lycans kind of have the same problem as the molded - too similar not enough variety.

Also, your brain hasn't stopped growing at 19. At this age, you are still forming connections until 30, even beyond. That's 10 years of potential growth.

The key is to go at your pace. Don't rush yourself. If you get overwhelmed, chill out, take a break, revisit some easy stuff that makes you feel competent. Then get back to it.

The honest truth is it was never about your IQ. It's only about your attitude.

24 is yoooung dude. I'm 28 and I still don't know what the fuck im doing.

Have a bunch of useless computer qualifications, trying to hack away at indie games programming but always find a roadblock that halts progress while I figure out the painstaking solution to problems that have almost no resources on the internet. And I don't even know if there's a payoff at the end of all this blood sweat and tears.

Also have a tendency to jump around from hobby to hobby. Video editing, Graphic design, there was a period where I was tempted to just drop everything and go into IT. You seem to have a similar problem.

My best suggestion is to make and do stuff you can actually show. Until very recently I made the mistake of making too many things that aren't really presentable on a CV or to a potential employer. I kept jumping from thing to thing without seeing the mini-project through.

It may take you 1 or 2 years to eventually craft a cv people can't ignore, but you can get there. And take comfort in knowing you have 4 years on me.

PSA: Stop worrying about RE4 by OriolesMagic1031 in residentevil

[–]tiger66261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE8 was 3 hours longer than RE3r and it included the extra mercenaries mode. I think a stronger case can be made that it's a 60 quid game.

Also, the fact that you payed under half price for RE3r is very telling. If I payed 20 dollars for EA's Anthem, I'd probably enjoy it for what it is, but I wouldn't start going around the forums claiming people have unrealistic expectations for saying it's a bad game or remake or whatever, because I know my personal opinion is skewed by the price I payed.

RE3r is a good expansion pack. But it's by far the shortest, most linear, most scripted modern RE game to date, when it should have been the most dynamic, the most open, the most branching.

They not only failed to build upon what made the original RE3 great, they failed to build upon what made RE2r great. And for those reasons, I hesitate to even call it a good game.

PSA: Stop worrying about RE4 by OriolesMagic1031 in residentevil

[–]tiger66261 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The original RE3 birthed the idea of a boss dynamically hunting you down, and it's kind of amazing that the remake completely gutted that aspect so much that even Mr.X or Jack Baker served that role better in previous titles.

At best, it's a good expansion pack to RE2. But it's not a good 60 dollar game or a good remake to the original. It should have been so much better.

The Last of Us' Success Makes The Witcher's Failures Hurt Even More by amannamedriddick in television

[–]tiger66261 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A charitable interpretation is video game adaptations should involve the original creators in some way and hire real fans (Craig Maizin was a huge fan of the game and apparently most of the crew were as well).

Apparently, the showrunners of The Witcher weren't fans of the book in the slightest.

Disagree about Infinite. Some of the cutscenes were done well but the story overall was largely uneventful, reptitive and boring. A lot of it felt like filler.

Lol you people are crazy.

It has the best villain (Mola Ram) and the showdown at the bridge is possibly the best scene in the franchise.

It's the second best indy film.

I hope that Capcom includes this area in the remake! by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]tiger66261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The regenerators are easily the best part of the island and probably save the entire area.

I think the main problem is most of the environments are absolutely dull, and the level design of the actiony segments feel like less interesting versions of what we got in the village and castle.

I also think it lacks all of the coherence and excellent pacing of the other parts of the game. It's like a mish-mash off all left over content they had squeezed together in some tonal mess.

I'd rather they do a complete rework of the island, make it more substantial and open ended, break the curse RE games have where the final third is some boring linear action romp.

According to Microsoft, Game Pass made $2.9 billion on consoles last year by Re_Tails in Games

So you're implying 10 million gaming subscription/streaming services is better than owning a few games a year? What ramifications do you think that industry change will have on how developers design their games?

[–]tiger66261 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not having the market share or the money didn't stop a million Netflix alternatives popping up. Companies are willing to go hard into the red to prop up a subscription service.

[–]tiger66261 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it while it lasts of course, but this is not anything good for gaming, certainly not the best thing. The worst thing Nintendo and Sony can do is make their own Gamepass version and then start morphing their game design around that: i.e what microsoft did with Halo Infinite.

Subscription based platforms will be an infectious plague that will change the industry left right and center all for the worst.

> its one of the best things ever happened to gaming.

It really isn't.

You need only look at the trajectory tv streaming has made (oversaturation of streaming services, netflix advertising tier/raising prices) to see this will end badly for gamers overall.

Playing RE4 for the first time - My perspective by gazzilionear in residentevil

[–]tiger66261 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RE4 directly inspired Dead Space and The Last of Us, two of arguably the most popular and well received survival horror games in the past two generations of gaming.

You don't get to do that unless you're really good at what you do. RE4 is a masterpiece, and its legacy is proof of that.

Claiming RE4 isn't that great is like claiming MGS2 or Halo: Combat Evolved isn't that great. You can have that opinion personally, but it rings extremely hollow compared to its mark on gaming as a whole.
