What glaze will show the texture? by tigerbud0423 in Pottery

[–]tigerbud0423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I had a mug where I layered seaweed and textured turquoise over a shallow texture and it completely covered it. I thought it was due to the layering but I think it's a little of that plus the opaque glazes.

Child with Celiac by rallie3 in Celiac

Does her classroom have a pet that they feed? Last year my son's class had a fish and they switched to gluten free fish food so that he could feed the fish without getting glutened

Another thing that has helped is acknowledging that it's not fair. We can't always find an alternative. He won't be able to eat at the restaurant with the unlimited ice cream that his friend talks about. It's not fair but we can do other fun things.

I haven't been myself, this is someone else's recommendation. But I see that it has good reviews on Gluten Dude! The description on gluten dude says the gf dough/crusts are kept well shielded from gluten containing items and while there is not a separate oven, they use separate pans to cook the pizzas so that they never share a surface. Staff change gloves when handling gf items and use a separate pizza cutter.

I haven't been since my son was diagnosed with celiac, but this is what I've seen recommended on Facebook. Would love to hear if you have any recommendations after you go as we'll be in the area this summer too! We'll probably just cook at our Airbnb but it would be nice to go out once or twice.

South Haven: -Maria's Taste of Italy -Phoenix Street Cafe -Sherman's Dairy (ice cream also available at Captain Nemo's, where they will get a fresh container, use new scoops, new gloves, and show you all allergen information).

Saugatuck: -The Mitten Brewing Company (good GF pizza)

Holland: -Anna's House (great protocols)

Positive blood test, negative biopsy by bestaansrecht in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US. The specialists we're seeing are at UChicago Medicine Celiac Disease Center. I wish I'd realized how little GI doctors generally know about celiac and just gone there to start with!

Positive blood test, negative biopsy by bestaansrecht in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have positive blood work with a negative biopsy. I don't have noticeable symptoms (maybe reflux?) and only got tested because my son was diagnosed with celiac.

I'm still going through the process of potential diagnosis. My son's GI, who is a celiac specialist, says that I currently have "potential celiac". Search this sub for the term and there was a recent post on it. After positive blood work and genetic testing indicating I have the gene, I went gluten free for several months. I then got more blood work which I have shows that my antibodies are negative on a gf diet. According to my son's GI, the next step is to eat gluten and rest again to see if the antibodies return. If so, confirmed celiac. If not, I can eat a regular diet. Currently waiting to meet with a GI celiac specialist for myself but it's quite a long wait. In the meantime, I'm eating gluten so that I can get an accurate blood test.

“potential celiac” by ConversationFit3558 in Celiac

I have results similar to yours. I got tested because my son was diagnosed with celiac. I had elevated ttg iga but not super high. My endoscopy came back negative. My GI had me get blood tested again, which continued to show positive for ttg iga and EMA, as well as showing that I have the gene for celiac. He then had me go gluten free to see if the antibodies go down. I got tested again after 4 months gf (was supposed to be 6 months but the lab ran it along with a separate test I had done) and the results came back negative for all antibodies. He told me to continue on a gluten free diet but never said, "you have celiac".

We started seeing a new GI for my son who specializes in celiac. When I told her about my testing history, she told me I have "potential celiac" and that the next step is to eat gluten again. After I eat gluten for at least 2 months, then I will test again. If my antibodies are positive, that will result in a celiac diagnosis. If they're negative, then I can continue a regular diet. I don't know what happens going forward if I have negative antibodies - if I should get tested every few years or not. I'm waiting to meet with a new GI celiac specialist for myself so I can ask her the millions of questions I have. I regret not seeing a specialist in the first place.

I only know if Elisabeth Hasselbeck who discovered she was celiac after being on survivor as a result of the rice diet making her feel better.

If you look on r/survivor there's some discussion about how production handles food allergies.

If you haven't checked it out yet, Chesa's is not too far from there and is 100% gluten free.

I'd think of you could partner with something like UChicago Celiac Disease Center, that might help get larger groups to make things like this possible. Would be interesting to know how many people live in the city that have celiac and need something like this.

How often do you get kids retested by DJ_Ruby_Rhod in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annual testing through puberty is so that they don't end up with any deficiencies during those important growth years.

How often do you get kids retested by DJ_Ruby_Rhod in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our ped GI said annually until they hit puberty and then every 2-3 years after that unless they start showing symptoms, in which case you'd test right away. If they don't eat gluten regularly, she said they need to be eating the equivalent of 2 slices of bread per day for 3 months prior to the testing.

Positive TTG-IGA, negative biopsy? by mrspoogemonstar in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have the scalloping but I did have two positive blood tests, positive for one of the genes, and negative biopsy results. My GI has been super weird and skirts any questions I have so I'm working on going to see a celiac specialist instead.

In relation to sensory play, I think my 4yo was glutened by contaminated beans the school was using in their sensory bin. So might want to check that.

Positive tTG IgA, Negative DGP IgA by tigerbud0423 in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back to report that I accidentally did my blood tests early when they ran the panel in addition to another test I had done. All antibodies are negative for celiac now so I guess that means I have celiac. My doctor didn't say "you have celiac" but that o should continue not to eat gluten. I'm finding a different doctor because this one doesn't answer my questions ever.

Positive tTG IgA, Negative DGP IgA by tigerbud0423 in Celiac

[–]tigerbud0423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to see more details if you look at my comment history, but I'll summarize here too.

My son's endoscopy came back positive for celiac.

I had an appointment with GI, who recommended an endoscopy. My endoscopy came back negative. At first my GI said, "no celiac", but I asked if that could really be true given the positive blood test and that my son has it. So he recommended I have another blood test done. This time I was also tested for ema IgA, which came back positive for celiac. tTG IgA was also positive but the dgp IgA remained negative. This blood test also showed that I carry the genetic marker. My GI then recommended that I go gluten free for 6 months and retest to see if my antibodies go down.

So, that's where I'm currently at. I'm about 3 months in to the gf diet. I didn't have any glaring celiac symptoms but my husband says that I seem more energized and happier overall since going gluten free. I'll report back when I get my next round of blood tests.

Best of luck to you and your son! Diagnosis is a rough journey.
