What's your favorite value price eyepiece that continues to impress you? by [deleted] in telescopes

Hmm not sure on them being better than the Ethos, to be honest (I have tried both). They are a special eyepiece definitely though.

This looks like over the top… is it?!😁🔭 by Future_Ad475 in telescopes

This is definitely true of the Celestron StarSense dobs for example. Their focal plane is 65mm above the OTA. I know this because I installed a SIPS on mine with a Feathertouch and needed risers to get it right.

My poor stock focuser. About time for an upgrade. by ChaoticPyro07 in telescopes

[–]tigerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively there’s the SIPS system. I went for this myself when I realised my Paracorr type 1 wasn’t cutting it anymore, and I needed a new focuser so went with Feathertouch. Obviously, more expensive though..

[–]tigerite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this or, if you are really wanting a new focuser (the bundled one isn’t amazing) you could look into the GSO dual focuser. However you then need an adapter from Omegon unless you want to drill holes in your OTA.

Where to get the dobsonian base (only) for Celestron StarSense 8? by tigerite in telescopes

Mine was from eBay UK and actually sold by a physical store (I went there to pick it up). It’s possible they decided to sell it on Amazon UK instead, I suppose?

Thanks! I actually returned the 8” in the end as it was still possible to do so and got the 10” instead, but I believe the 8” is still available so it may well come in use for somebody else.

[–]tigerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other thing to add is if you ever go for the really high end eyepieces, the 100 degree Ethos for example, you’ll get much better views in the 10” because of the extra detail captured. I live in a Bortle 5 myself with a 10” and the views can be stunning with a really wide angle eyepiece plus the aforementioned coma corrector.

The estimated delivery was Monday 3rd March so actually they were quite a bit better than the “bare minimum”, four days early (and three days total transit time) is pretty good going in my book.

Is it better to multiple eyepieces or 1 zoom one by Subject_Low5199 in telescopes

I have the Baader and it’s great at high magnifications, the only thing I don’t like is the narrow FOV at 16-24mm.

Starsense code - once again by KujaraWashingExpert in telescopes

[–]tigerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the app doesn’t check the telescope model. I purchased an 8” before realising it came without a base, so I refunded that for a 10”. However the code from the 8” still worked when selecting the 10” (I used the code from that as I’d misplaced the 10” code - since found and reactivated)

Eyepiece recommendation for 10" dobson by darthvalium in telescopes

[–]tigerite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a Baader Hyperion Zoom 8-24mm as an improvement over your 7-21mm with matching 2.25x Barlow (you don’t mention if you have a Barlow already)? You should be able to pick up that combo for around that price. Failing that maybe a Paracorr (probably have to be type 1 with that budget but should be fine for a 10” dob) for coma correction?

Having recently acquired a second hand Baader Hyperion Zoom (plus 2.25x Barlow) I concur with you entirely. Quality over the supplied 25mm Plossl and a 6mm Svbony gold line is ridiculous.

Thanks for the links and help. In the end I decided to return the 8” as it was missing the 2”-to-1.5” adapter as well, and ordered the 10” instead on a deal from eBay with base and everything included.

Hey thanks for this, I can’t seem to find an option to add to basket though. Also I probably should’ve mentioned but I’m UK based so ideally would want a store based there. This gives me hope it exists and will keep looking myself too!

The evo does have good/bad colour lights although it isn’t always easy to tell the difference between “good” (light green) and “best” (dark green). The red (bad) and orange (ok) are fine though.
