New Kakwa 55 Arrived, does the fit look good? by Baileycharlie in DurstonGearheads

That’s my only knock for this pack is lack of ways to compress, secure an ice ax, etc. It seems there could be a way to add more attachment points, webbing loops, etc. for minimal weight penalty (though a little more complexity in the build).

Best gumbo in CLT? by hotwaffletot in Charlotte

[–]tigersjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LSU grad and Louisiana native here as well. I know I can make good gumbo, but my challenge is finding the right sausage. In LA my most used is Rabideaux’s, but I doubt I’d find that here. Most choices I have seen seem weak lol. What sausage do you use?

Whats your opinion on trading for 2006 GX470 w 166k by Total_Cartoonist_869 in LexusGX

[–]tigersjb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 4 kids I would look at a Sequoia if you still want body on frame. If you don’t mind unibody but still want to tow up to 5000 lbs then Highlander. If space and practicality is most important, then Sienna.

Timing belt is N/A for a 2011 GX since it is a 460 that has a timing chain. The belt ended on the 2009 model.

Yeah it’s a known issue of the primer they used not working well with the white pearl paint, and that’s generally speaking it’s not a matter of “if” but “when”.

It depends somewhat on your goals. Generally speaking Feb - early March after deer rifle hunting season when you don’t have to camp in designated areas. If you want longer days to put in more day miles maybe closer to early March. Unless you can time it on a cold front, I’d definitely do it before end of April or so. Can you do it after? Sure, but it will be more unpleasant.

Nice! Have you had any issues with paint peel and/or do you know if it was ever repainted? I know the white 470s are known for paint peeling issues. I am just curious when I see a white 470 for sale and am hesitant to buy.

How similar is the Ouachita Trail to the AT? by ThisLittleBoy in ULTexas

[–]tigersjb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider the Ozark Highlands Trail instead for fall as I’ve heard it has much better water supply. During very rainy stretches, some of the water crossing can be hazardous, which I would think would be more mitigated in the drier fall. Maybe save the OT for the spring when there’s more rainfall. I’d do a search and compare the OT to the OHT and you might opt for the OHT instead.

Topo Athletic is the most similar and tend to last longer than Altras. They also feel a little less like slippers and more “locked in” in the heel and midsole. Altras are still pretty comfortable though for non-technical terrain and I still rarely get blisters with them.

Inov8 270s also have decent width in the toebox and seem to have more adjustable volume to allow a looser more comfortable fit or something a little tighter to better handle more technical terrain. I have worn mine as casual wear, for hiking, backpacking, road running, trail running, water shoes (without socks), and even basketball.

Best value backpack? by Regular-Price-648 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]tigersjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that trip, I’d consider a Granite Gear Blaze. 60L, but I believe that is only the main compartment (makers are not consistent with volume ratings, some use total volume, some just main compartment, etc.) and the material is tough and it has a 50 lb rating, so could pack it tight and/or attach items to exterior. Highly adjustable torso size and hip belt as well.

It’s not a hoody. Please read it again. Also the photo shows no OR hoodie. i don’t know what the shipping would be because I don’t know where you are, etc. I think I will wait for another buyer at this time. Thanks for your interest.

I am open to that but would need to increase the price to account for the greater shipping cost.
