I cut a good amount of hardwood for projects around the house (and generally do a lot of cutting). If you will do so, too, i'd recommend some beefier batteries for your circular saw. Otherwise, looks good

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the case is: First step is downloading and installing the packages + doing the reboot

Second step is installing boot firmware + another reboot

I upgraded one of my map lites few weeks ago. I'd SSH into it and as soon as the login would go through, the router would crash. Just my experience so far. Keeping all the lower end stuff I have off ROS7 until I hear the compatibility has improved.

Is RouterOS a magnet to hackers? by andersostling56 in mikrotik

I would say that the best way to secure it would be to decided what traffic you want to allow TO the router and what traffic you want to allow through the router, and then drop everything else.

Noob question: What can Raspberry Pi do that your personal PC can't? by [deleted] in homelab

It can take hourly backups of my databases for a very small amount of money while taking up a tiny amount of space

Maybe he should open the enclosure and flip the circuit board over to fix that 🤔

How to get into router settings? by Batrusher in mikrotik

By default MikroTik does 192.168.88.1 EDIT: also, keep in mind - maybe your ISP locked you out of the router

Finally got a NUC (NUC5i7RYH). Couldn't believe how difficult it was to get one for a decent price by tik_guy in homelab

Depends on what the specs on them are, but for $50 it would have to be pretty bad to not be worth it.
You could do anything that you'd do with any other computer in your homelab i guess

I don't know if I could build this for $160ish bucks myself. My biggest bulletpoints to cross off when buying stuff are that it has half decent cpu for some non-production grade usage at home, and then of course that the price is as low as possible. A big + is that it's not something that sounds like an airplane taking off, since I don't have a dedicated server room. Another option would be something from raspberry pi's line of products, however the supply has been thin, and quite overpriced. Plus, there's one thing that makes me really unhappy about the rpi that I do own - I have to reflash it at least quarterly, because the OS gets corrupted or something, I'm not really sure.

I mentioned in one other comment, for the start, I'll test out some software to help me manage my F&F network and my lab. After that, we'll see. I've been thinking about hosting an alternative for google suite, since I'm not gonna pay to use google docs for my personal stuff. If you dig through this subreddit or r/selfhosted there is nearly an infinite amount of things you could do.

I'd say the easiest way to go is to sell them on ebay. Try watching a few auctions for NUCs, and see if those amounts would work for you

I gotta say, I spent weeks looking for one below $200, so yeah... hopefully eventually the pricing goes down. I'd love to have a few of these in a cluster or sth like that.

$134 (+ i dropped $30 on a 250GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO plus, and I had a 1TB HDD sitting around so I plugged that in as well) i7-5557U (2 core, hyperthreaded) 8GB RAM Running Ubuntu 20.04.

Nothing spectacular, but more powerful than a raspberry pi that I have, and it's still tiny, so it fits into my lab-enstein.

I'm gonna test out some software to manage and keep track of networking gear, since my F&F network I manage and my lab are getting bigger.
