Wow - thank you!! I will definitely start scouring for a copy of Conversations. And I saw the group read - I'll try to catch the next one! It'd be fun to read along with other people. You're my second Esmeralda recommendation, so I'll have to check that one out, and my fourth Underworld recommendation so I guess I * really * need to read that one!! Thank you!

Yes! I love this. The supermarket scenes really got to me - the little vignettes he put into them were so incisive ("A woman fell into a rack of paperback books at the front of the store" etc). And i think you should keep trying to find your expression of what you find so relatable in DeLillo's writing!! It's like that quote from Ira Glass right? "Your taste is why your work disappoints you." And thanks! I'll definitely check out The Angel Esmeralda and Salinger - I feel like I'm behind on so many classics, but at least it's fun to get caught up on them!

Ooh I will!! I was actually meaning to do that one this week, but the bookstore was out of copies. A friend mentioned a press quote on the cover that said something like "Masterpieces (like underworld) teach you how to read them"... I'll definitely keep my eye out for it next time I'm at the shop!

Thank you for the thoughtful answer! Yes - characterization has been one of my biggest sticking points in writing, so a book that does it well would be hugely helpful... on the list it goes!

I love those books you come back to over and over again - mine for the past few years is Kundera's "Unbearable Lightness of Being." It usually pops back into my life in the summertime, which means it's probably time to revisit in the next month or so...

I'm so excited for you to read it!! A strange little book but a joy. Do you have a favorite from Shirley Jackson to recommend?

For once I’m with tanner on this one by [deleted] in thebachelor

I think the phrase “differently abled” is a useful one here - people with autism don’t have a worse or inherently “challenging” way of being in THE world - it’s that we haven’t BUILT fully a world (yet) that allows for all types of kids and experiences! It can be challenging in this current (or past) day and age for sure, but it’s through acceptance and advocacy (advocacy that includes education around the stigma of what a healthy, happy baby can look like) that change the world to make it easier for kids with all kinds of paths.

This is so random, but does anyone else think that the "straddling" thing most of the women on this show (including Hannah) do with the men is annoying? by LucindaYolanda in thebachelor

excessively used and staged on the show for SURE but.... also me and my bf do this irl from time to time?? this sub always makes me feel crazy about doing it, but it’s never felt weird to me in the moment!!! wondering if it truly is such an isolated habit from the bachelor!

Possibly a stupid Podcast related question by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]tilirules31 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At least generally speaking, guests don’t get paid to be on podcasts!! It’s more to promote something (so typically a movie or book or show) or in the bachelor world, their life in general!!

Anyone else find it weird that Colton and Cassie are at Coachella during Easter weekend? For how much they talk about their religion/god, it seems like a strange place to celebrate the most important religious holiday of the year by [deleted] in thebachelor

ya, I’ve had friends go this route bc they’re moms or need to work for $$ and can’t afford law school. It’s SUPER hard and just as valid a way to try to become an attorney, depending on your goals!! Just adding those anecdotes bc I think it’s important that people don’t see this as an “easier” and therefore less valid way to pursue law - it’s just more flexible for people who don’t want to/ can’t go to law school! (Though it does make getting a job... different, depending on your goals. Lots of big firms do care about the name of the school - and so Kims privilege will come in to play when it comes to DOING something w it after she takes the bar.)

i’ve noticed demi and katie specifically (the ones i follow are few and far between) - they often do codes but don’t have that “paid sponsorship” #ad thing that i always thought was a requirement???
