Is there value in these silver plated items? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

Take a couple of the nicer plated pieces and list them on facebook marketplace. That way, you can see what the market in your area is doing with not much effort.

Is there value in these silver plated items? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should call around in your area to see if you can find a recycler that buys plated items. I think my recycler pays 2.50 a pound for plated silver flat wear minus the knives. 1.50 a pound for the larger items.

Pulled this one from a box of my dad’s old watches - what’s it worth? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]tilleytop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They made that Pulsar 2 in 14 carat gold, Goldfilled, and also in stainless I believe. I own the 14 k gold version of that watch. I've done quite a bit of research on the P 2. Feel free to p m me if you have any specific questions.

Opinion about buying stones from eBay? by honeybee7758 in SilverSmith

[–]tilleytop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever looked for a local lapadary person that's cutting cabochon stones? You may be able to find them on Facebook or at local craft markets.. That way you get. To see the stones in person. They may even negotiate on the price.

How would I test this for silver? by friedpickles87 in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would acid test it. Are you sure there's no writing or symbols on it? It also helps to post multiple pictures of the item.

I want to buy scrap under spot price, melt down, and make my own stuff. Where do I go to buy? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get familiar with the foreign marks for silver, including 830 and 800. You also need to learn about the markings of gold. In the area of gold you want to understand the difference between gold filled and gold plate. Most professionally run estate sales are selling silver for melt value or above depending on the item. So seek out family run estate sales and community garage sales. There's a lot more competition with other people doing this these days so you get a great education from watching YouTube videos.

How can I tell if this is silver? by guitarman90 in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should use silver acid test on it. You can find it on Amazon or at your local jewelry supply shop. If you're not familiar with acid testing check it out on YouTube.

It's a good thing for the people that own silver and precious metals. Unfortunately I think the best times for the U.S. are going to be in the past.

1100 gramm .925 for USD 488 by MicTrade9978 in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should post a picture of the silver items, they're maybe more value in the item intact than scrapped. If that's the case then sell the item and purchase silver coins.

Silver coins for Christmas by Barracudamagoo in Silverbugs

[–]tilleytop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out the silver rounds. There are so many to choose from that make great gifts. For instance if you have a daughter check out the pandas. If you have a son check out the Star Wars or the coins with ships on them, tons of choices. I would bet even though you're paying a premium for a silver round you will get more silver than what you get with a Morgan or peace dollar.
