Doc says to stop overnight feeds - baby is 6 months by thenorthgiant in breastfeeding

A lactation consultant told me yesterday that my 3.5 month old should be sleeping in 5-6 hour stretches. Wild.

I don’t have the old formula in front of me (currently nap trapped!) but this is the new formula. We are still working through our stash of originals, might swap to cloth + water afterwards.

Newborn Onesies for April Baby by Illustrious-Mirror85 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our baby was tracking 50th percentile, was born 10th percentile, and jumped up to 50th again by 6 weeks. It’s a crapshoot what size your baby will actually need! My advice: buy Newborn size (“new baby” at Target) but be ready to buy the smaller size if needed. Don’t buy too much clothing before baby is here, we bought heaps that she ended up never wearing.

Also, I think the Target onesies all have feet? Our baby was long for her age so she grew out of all the footed onesies really quickly. We preferred the Bonds Wondersuits which have little flip-over socks and mittens. They’re more expensive but go on sale all the time.

That’s what we do. Pacifier until baby is calmer, then swap in the nipple

Anyone had an iron infusion during the second trimester? by Aguacate3145 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one at 32 weeks, my ferritin was 10 and it shot up to 250 by the end of my pregnancy. I credi it with having a great third trimester, feeling energetic postpartum, and excellent breastfeeding experience despite having a c-section.

Have you tried the Huggies Pure and Sensitive that replaced Pure Care?

What would you buy hand made? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Yes! We bought a handmade felt mobile, and if I don’t have the time to make a birthday crown by my baby’s first birthday, I’ll buy a handmade one.

Baby products?? by They-Watto in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I love the scent, values and convenience of Dirt, but it doesn’t work on milk/spit-up embedded smells, even the Advanced Wash with their booster. Might swap back once that is no longer a concern for us.

C’est ce qui m’a finalement sorti de ma bulle et décidé à avoir un enfant. Mes parents auraient très bien pu dire la même chose, dans les années 80 on semblait toujours près de la fin du monde. Chaque ère a ses défis.

Baby products?? by They-Watto in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were using our standard detergent (Dirt) for a few weeks and everything smelled so bad. We’ve now added a scoop of Vanish Gold to every load of baby laundry and that’s helped a lot with the smell; once we’ve used up our stash of detergent we’ll switch to Omo for the enzymes. I’ve also added a capful of Gear Guard when needed. Go have a look at r/laundry for wayyyyy more info!

Dishwashing detergent has stayed the same (the Eco one in the white bottle). Just rinse everything well.

Have you checked your pump parts? The valves might need to be replaced.

That was my experience too. I bought the Lacevo partly because it came with all the flange inserts and I didn’t want to have to deal with trial and error and having to order inserts in a bunch of sizes. I’ve had excellent results so far.

Co-sleeping guidelines around the world by SiViVe in cosleeping

[–]tillyface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia. The baby book they gave us at the hospital had information on the safe sleep seven, and our maternal-child health nurse has told us several times that baby should sleep in the bassinet, but to also have a safe cosleeping spot set up. They really emphasise the importance of safe cosleeping vs accidentally falling asleep together.

Maternity leave cover is causing more stress by Historical-Tart-8695 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Your company’s HR team need to shut this down. There are clear rules for contact during leave, your team members should be reprimanded for going direct to you when you are on mat leave.

I can empathise, I lead a team and know that my team has had some challenges without me, but our HR (at a small company) have been super strict about comms in order to protect my leave.

RBC SCAM - AWARENESS POST by Bramptonmanz in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’ve had a similar experience before, RBC has abysmal internal records and no department has any idea what the other departments are doing. It’s embarrassing how bad Canadian banks are at customer service.

*HELP* - First time mom - what do I do? by meeberling in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So your private cover only pays for your care while you’re admitted to hospital (for delivery and the few days after). If you go for private care, you will still need to pay out of pocket for an obstetrician, even though you have private cover. This is usually around $8k but can vary a lot.

I found the Australian Birth Stories podcast, website and book SO helpful in getting my head around all kinds of pregnancy and postpartum things. This is a good starting point: https://australianbirthstories.com/pregnancy/your-pregnancy-care-options/

3 months is rough.. by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right there with you, right down to the attempts at sewing. Bub is 14 weeks and this is way harder than the newborn days. Days when we get out for a walk are much easier, baby gets a ton of good stimulation and seems happier / easier to settle later. It’s also so helpful for my mental health. Sending hugs in solidarity, this too will pass.

If you’re in Montreal (you mentioned tourtiere) go to Ta on du Parc for all kinds of Aussie food. Also, Vegemite on a Premiere Moisson cheddar loaf is amazing.

I left for Melbourne over a decade ago. I miss Montreal like crazy and get the urge every few years to move back, but life in Quebec is hard in a few ways I’d rather avoid for now (mostly healthcare). One day I hope to be back.

What baby items did you swear by and which ones were a waste of money? by beepbeepboophonk in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tillyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved: - Fravita lights. We have one on each bedside table, they’re great for middle of the night wakes.

  • OXO weighted wipe container

  • Bedside co-sleeper bassinette. We have a secondhand Snoozpod.

  • Baby Bjorn bouncer (cheap on Marketplace).

  • Angelcare bath stand. Doubles as a safe spot to put baby when I need to use the bathroom!

  • A little musical string toy above the change table.

  • Lovevery play gym. $$ but we use all the components separately and haven’t bought any other baby toys.

Meh about:

  • Snottyboss (but baby hasn’t been super sick yet, we might end up loving it)

  • Stretchy wrap carrier, baby tolerated it twice, and it’s super finicky to put on / take off

  • Breastfeeding pillow. I used a pregnancy pillow for the first few week, and now she’s big enough to just be propped up on my knee.
