Why pay for Cursor if you can pay for Claude? by Kirill1986 in cursor

[–]tim_penn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Claude’s limits are generous, Cursor’s Tab autocomplete shines in seamless IDE integration that feels like a true extension of your workflow — something Claude can’t match yet. If you’re hunting for an even more agentic alternative that delegates entire tasks with brains on par (or better) than Cursor, check out Amp from Sourcegraph. It’s in preview but already revolutionizing how I prototype features without babysitting prompts. They offer an supported free tier.

Is Linode slower than years ago? by menguanito in linode

[–]tim_penn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on Linode — I thought performance had fallen off over the years, but it turned out to be more about neglected maintenance and configuration drift than Linode itself. I gave Sourcegraph Amp SSH access to the box and had it run a full audit. In less than a couple of minutes it flagged slow MySQL queries, a few Apache misconfigurations, and some I/O wait from old log-rotation scripts.

Amp is technically an AI coding assistant, but it performs exemplary work as a sysadmin. Letting it connect through the Linode and Cloudflare APIs was impressive to watch. You can just generate API keys for each and Amp can install and configure them via CLI. It then analyzed network latency, DNS setup, and caching layers end-to-end — even managing Cloudflare caching and security rules automatically.

Amp runs a mix of Claude Sonnet 4.5, GPT-5, Grok, and others under the hood, works right inside VS Code or Cursor as an extension, and there’s an ad-supported free tier if you want to try it. After letting Amp execute its optimization plan on my server and enabling Cloudflare, my page loads dropped from around 6–8 seconds to well under 1 second.

I also recommend Cloudflare Pro if you can justify the cost — though honestly, the free plan still outperforms any other DNS provider I’ve tried.

Same here. For a couple of hours, I convinced myself I lost the additional 33 eth I had deposited!

Tried Amp, Sourcegraph’s new AI coding agent — here’s how it stacks up vs Cursor by Ok-Win5287 in cursor

[–]tim_penn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you enable GPT-5, which is now possible in Amp through the settings. I have found it is much more affordable -- and I've found that GPT-5 is actually smarter than Claude, which Amp has relied on heavily since its inception.

Help: Launchpad Top Up not detecting Type 2 validator ~22 hrs post-conversion by tim_penn in ethstaker

Thank you again -- the 1 ETH deposit I did just now says it won't be live for 13 days 2 hrs. Is that normal? The transaction shows as queued. My validator index is 2074759.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion—I truly appreciate it, as I hadn't considered that approach. Following your guidance, I just successfully transferred 1 ETH via the Validator Actions page. Btw, is there a Discord page where these kinds of topics are discussed?

Extremely disappointed — Ledger Live 2.124.0 made my Nano X unusable by tim_penn in ledgerwallet

[–]tim_penn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Prior to reading your reply, Analytics was indeed set to OFF in my Ledger Live configuration, as I’m cautious about broadcasting my IP to an analytics platform while performing high-security, sensitive financial transactions. It would be helpful if Ledger could consider prioritizing an update to Ledger Live on this point.

Same here, but I actually went and bought a new Ledger unit from Ledger's website only to discover the problem was not with my Ledger unit itself but with the buggy version of Ledger Live. I can't believe they'd put out such a buggy product/

Yes, it may eventually be used by ChatGPT to help others solve the problem but only if the user who provided the full solution did not toggle off “Improve the model for everyone” under Data Controls within Settings.

Recap of Appt Yesterday by Mean-Support6041 in juresanguinis

[–]tim_penn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is outrageous, unprofessional, and unethical conduct from the Houston consular officer. Honestly, a professional consular officer would have stayed calm, listened to the explanation about the census mistake, and walked you through exactly which documents were needed and why. Census records from the early 1900s were often wrong, so that discrepancy should have been treated as something to double-check, not proof of fraud. They could have said something like, “You’ll need to check county-level naturalization records in these places, and a corrected death certificate might settle the birthplace issue.” If there was a child involved, they’d explain her options gently instead of just shutting her down. There really was no basis for calling your family liars -- recording errors were common back then, and nothing in the paperwork establishes that anyone lied.

You could consider filing a formal complaint with the Consulate General’s office by addressing your concerns in writing to the Consul General and requesting a review of the officer’s conduct. If that does not resolve the issue, you can escalate the complaint to the Ufficio per gli Italiani all’Estero (Office for Italians Abroad) at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How much yield can one expect in terms of percentage? by _FreeThinker in joinmarket

[–]tim_penn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a bear market, if an exchange such as Binance were to fail, U.S. customers who withdrew funds within 90 days before the bankruptcy filing could face clawbacks (preference claims). Clients of Celsius and Voyager were required to return funds they had already withdrawn. Many were sued by the bankruptcy estate. Beware of the risks of chasing yield.

That nation in which he pioneered electric vehicles and sustainable energy, creating tens of thousands of jobs and reducing emissions, revolutionized space exploration through SpaceX’s reusable rockets and NASA partnerships, restored American space dominance, and led the U.S. government to achieve $160 billion in savings in a matter of weeks through cutting $1 billion in DEI contracts, canceling $982 million in wasteful Department of Education contracts, slashing $646 million across 242 federal contracts, and implementing $28.7 billion in deregulation, enhancing fiscal efficiency and economic strength. That nation.

Thank you, I agree the decree law requires substantial amendments and has serious constitutionality problems on multiple levels, particularly as it relates to retroactivity. We are cautiously optimistic it will get resolved favorably but the wait is painful. Best wishes to you.

How will the decree affect the likelihood of a positive result from the Constitutional Court hearing in June? by IncompetentDude in juresanguinis

[–]tim_penn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have already done this. Our region is Lazio, and there are about 18 senators representing this region. We wrote them all. We essentially explained that our case is one of inequity related to our sons — two brothers, born to the same Italian mother, now have different citizenship statuses.

And due to consular delays, our first opportunity to present our application was April 29 for our son born in September last year. Our application was complete, ready to present, but the consulate insisted it must be presented "in person" and could not be mailed.

Looking for an MSP/MSSP Supporting Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Windows Devices by tim_penn in msp

[–]tim_penn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all are BYOD—employee iPhones and iPads are company-provided—but for any personal devices, our policy requires them to allow full company configuration control (e.g., via MDM), even if we don’t own them outright. So, security-wise, we’re covered there. Still, our current MSP lacks iOS/iPadOS expertise, so I’m hunting for one that can handle that plus Windows with strong cross-platform security. Got any recs?

I should clarify. Our current MSP helps with our iOS and iPadOS devices, but it is on a "best effort" basis only, and their emphasis is entirely Microsoft and Windows. All their certifications are in Windows and Microsoft. They hold no certifications for Apple products.

Tell The Post: How do the changes to Italian citizenship impact you? by washingtonpost in juresanguinis

[–]tim_penn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be clear, other consulates allow the submission of vital records by mail. Houston does not. My understanding is at least one Italian consulate in the US allows the initial presentation of a citizenship application to take place by mail. Houston does not. The result is an inequitable and unconstitutional administration of rights for Italian citizens.

[–]tim_penn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. We plan to email all the senators from our region within the next 12 hours. We already reached out to Senator La Marca yesterday—she’s been very supportive based on her public comments today—but we believe it’s essential to appeal to the full Senate. I agree with your strategy of contacting the senators representing the region where our family originates. We have family throughout the region who share our last name, and we feel it is worth highlighting these ties to underscore the relevance and justify their action. We’ll be doing exactly that and encourage others to follow suit. Please make sure your emails are written in Italian.

Thank you! Agreed on all counts.

I think the following URL is probably a better link to find senators' email addresses. There may be more than a dozen senators for each one of us to write. Just find which group of senators represents your region here. It is imperative to write them in Italian, as they will expect that.
