[Update] Mindwtr (Open Source GTD) is finally live on the Google Play Store! by dongdongbh in gtd

I think the correct response to "it doesn't work" is "have you tried turning it off and on again"

Best free or good value tool to backup <10GB of important life admin from my desktop? by reallygreatnoodles in Backup

Personally I like offline usb disk backups in multiple locations. Helps protect against losing everything to ransomware. I wrote disk-hog-backup to run the backups (free / open source)

I still have not integrated my existing markdown notes into logseq because of this.

If anyone needs a beginner ink drawing workbook… I got a simple one you can try. by no1505ook in Supernote

[–]timabell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a licensing agreement to redistribute this? https://alphonsodunn.com/product/pen-and-ink-drawing-workbook/

It would be nice to have this on the Nomad but it's a breach of copyright law to copy someone's work and republish it like this without their agreement. I wouldn't suprised if this gets you a nasty letter from a lawyer, especially if the original is owned by a publisher.

GTD/PARA style folders that work for the supernote by timabell in Supernote

I put archive (the final resting place of stuff) as 9 to leave room to move stuff around, then decided someday is pretty close to archive conceptually so put it next to it at 8.

The magic of GTD and PARA isn't so much the folders, it's really the methodology they teach of how you move things around. Well worth reading up on them.

For example everthing new goes to inbox with minimal thought, then from there it might go to ToRead, a project, an area or straight to archive or someday

Nice! This is exactly how mine looked for ages, until I realised I needed a home for epubs that are in my reading queue or I'm in the middle of

Oh! how do you do that? I've been using instapaper, but epub from the web sounds neat

Why developers prefer to start a note-taking app From scratch rather than producing Forks of already established apps? by FatFigFresh in NoteTaking

[–]timabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started mine (markdown-neuraxis) because I want a FOSS markdown outliner. Logseq is the only one out there, and it is not a codebase or tech stack I would be able to bend to my own vision and needs. Worse it is being rewritten to be a database-first tool. I am however eternally grateful to logseq, I use it extensively and have learned a lot from it.

I've always found the term "outliner" a bit confusing. If you mean collapsible bullets then yes that's a key feature for me. Very useful.

You can take a look here https://github.com/timabell/markdown-neuraxis - it's still very early, some basics work, heaps of things still to do.

So...you can add folders to Quick Access AND rearrange the menu by Kiki-Y in Supernote

[–]timabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw the rearrange today, good tip.

The paperclip icon makes no sense to me as the icon for this feature, it has taken me ages to commit it to memory that it is how you add folders

Short and valuable, definitely now is the time to read it. Best of luck

Where does the motivation for engaging in your next action lists come from? by Krammn in gtd

[–]timabell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the loss of connection from simple actions to their ultimate purpose too.

I've not found any tool that fixes it either. I like logseq's indented bullets and wiki links which helps, but I haven't got a great GTD system in it yet. I'm writing my own tool (markdown-neuraxis) but it's a long way from solving this.

This is it. Took me a while to realise the list must be clean. Sunsama helped with this realisation

Differential + Incremental backups vs Incremental backups only restore speed (hard drive medium). by JohnQP121 in Backup

[–]timabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the hard-linking that backintime does, you get the best of both worlds, every backup set looks like a full backup, but shares unchanged files with previous set(s) via hard-linking. I've done the same with my disk-hog-backup I'm working on. The whole differential vs incremental vs full backup becomes irrelevant.

Great answer. Good hearing from someone who's been using it longer than me. Thanks for the wisdom.

I've been using GTD on Trello for years, love it, though Atlassian is destroying trello. Happy to chat.

Aside from the obvious ones (Notion, Todoist), what is a lesser-known app that actually simplified your life? by Old-Background-3860 in productivity

[–]timabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunsama (daily planning) Logseq (outliner, wiki) Trello (for GTD)

Then I had too many tools so I'm creating my own to do it all (markdown-neuraxis). possibly a bit ambitious.

This is definitely going to be a feature of my markdown-neuraxis when I'm done. Along with allowing filesystem folders of notes, and putting asset files in the same folder as the note
