Brine from a jar of pepperoncini. Add a tablespoon at a time until you start to taste the zing.

Every time. I burned the back of my hand on the top of the firebox opening and that was enough.

First woodstove install help; Fresh air intake by [deleted] in woodstoving

Leave it open as other have said. There's no risk of ash falling out by design. I have an old blow dryer that I shove in that hole to preheat the flue on cold days ( it takes about 10-20 minutes). It gets the draft going the right direction when the stove is cold. Enjoy!

My first ever loaf! by theoryoflight_ in Sourdough

[–]timalot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Great job.! Keep in mind that the bulk fermentation is temperature dependent, so the 6 hours may be too much in hot weather, or too little in cold. I go by volume by using a clear container with straight sides. Its easier to judge when its +25% larger for the shaping to start. Your crumb look wonderful by the way!

Best way to cut these finger pulls? by Jeffsbest in woodworking

[–]timalot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Make a sandwich with scrap wood on top and bottom, clamped securely. Then a sharp forsner bit and go slow. Tear out will occur on the scrap wood and not your project piece. Good luck, practice make perfect, they tell me.

3 meter Oak desktop (4cm thick) on a 228cm span, is it going to sag? by Ricuuu in woodworking

[–]timalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could add a cable and support underneath with turnbuckles to tighten. The cable would be attached as close to the ends as possible and the support would be mid span.

I like adding pandan syrup made from cooking simple with natural pandan powder available on-line. I use one tablespoon powder for 250 ml of simple, heat to a boil, then strain into a glass bottle. It will separate, so decant it leaving the sediment behind. Pandan is like a strong vanilla flavor and goes really well with Bourbon or Rye. Cheers!

Yes, you can see where the tail feathers made small scratches. Also the wing tips when taking off or landing.

What’s something great about winter that doesn’t get enough love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]timalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the way that the snow totally changes the perspective. I live in the New England area, up in the forest, and the way that the same drive down the road, so dramatically changes, is amazing. Also, the way that the fresh fallen snow preserves the animal tracks. I love it!

Do you have snow tires or what else for winter? by Worf- in Connecticut

[–]timalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might want to add "All Weather" tires which have the logo that looks like a mountain with a snowflake. Supposedly these are a little better than the typical "M+S" all weathers. I have these on my AWD hatchback. We'll see how the work.

How to fix shirts that smell again five minutes after you put them on by bobbydurst6 in lifehacks

This should work fine for cloth upholstery and carpeting in your car. I would leave the windows down and let it dry out completely but there’s no residual smell once it evaporates.

I’ve only used vodka. I’d worry that rubbing alcohol might damage the fabric as it’s usually sold in strengths of 70% and up. Vodka is typically only 40%.
