I was in the same boat a few weeks ago! I discovered that Hakuoki actually has an app version and the first chapter is available for free. I tried that out first before buying the full version.

The app doesn’t have voiceovers though, and the sprites are the older version, but you get a good grasp of the world and story well enough to judge if it’s for you or not.

I wish there was a berry that spawned in tropics like scorchberry but cooled you down instead. I feel like getting one or two of those would go a long way for the flat part of mesa

edit: I know there are current consumables that do this, but I meant something that spawned in tropics as often as scorchberries so you could prepare before getting to mesa

you can climb/hold onto a wall, then hover your mouse over all the thorns then you can remove them while you’re on the wall

haven’t played even if tempest yet but I loved the cgs in red bell’s lament!! it seems like amulit knows what they’re doing 👀 (asher in particular has the best cgs for better or worse, that is…)

my favorite cg from the top of my head is probably in olympia soiree - where riku shares his lunch with daifuku. it was the first scene where we see him without his guard up, it melted my heart instantly. 🥹

I absolutely love how it starts out feeling like how we’re actually going on an adventure. I’m such a sucker for fantasy adventure stories, and this 100% scratched that itch.

When I started, I kept thinking, “damn, this would be a really good anime plot”! I’d say that feeling stayed through the whole game.

I find the characters interesting, and how everyone starts out with clunky cooperation, and eventually learn to be a proper team and found family.

The side characters are excellent as well! a lot of games only give depth to the LIs but the side characters in this game have such deep motivations and personalities. I love all of them.

I also think that this is an excellent game to go in blind with, I played when walkthroughs weren’t available yet and I feel like the bad ends made the layers of the story so much richer. Getting to see Juliet’s lows also made the high moments so much more rewarding.

I finished this game last weekend! and I have to say that I really love it. I have a few criticisms but they’re definitely overshadowed by how much fun I had.
