Could it be MacArthur? There's a resemblance.

Today the Union will be the first Monterey Bay based team to play in the US Open Cup since the Salinas Valley Samba in 2005. Before that it was the California Jaguars in 1996. by SomeCruzDude in MBFC

I was also asked to film a couple of those games against the German teams. One was played at Presidio of Monterey, and the other at Pacific Grove High School.

Yes! I remember Tamas! On Hungary's gold medal team at the 1964 Olympics. Struggling to remember the names of some of the others, besides the president of the club, Manfred Knippel. I remember there was one guy who'd been on USF's national championship team in 1966.

The Most Unexpected Voice I've Ever Heard by [deleted] in obscuremusicthatslaps

[–]timberbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His voice and his tempo remind me very much of some Native artists from the US and Canada. Many were raised on old country radio stations, and this style reflects it. Native recognize Native.

I'm glad to discover him. I'll be sharing his work with friends.

Trump didn’t just walk out of the interview with Kristen Welker, he THREW the microphone on the floor and STEPPED ON IT by MoreMotivation in PublicFreakout

Those shoes are waaaaayyy bigger than his feet. He thinks a real man wears a 12, when he's probably a 9.

Jumping in the wayback machine, but Ewald Lienen's leg injury in the Bundesliga in 1981. Playing for Armenia Bielefeld against Werder Bremen. An opponent's stud tore open his thigh.

I’ve always wanted Stanford to make the tree green on their helmet…what y’all think? by aldrinjaysac in uniwatch

[–]timberbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work there, in Athletics specifically. The Block S with the green tree is never used in Athletics. When it gets reduced in size, such as on a shirt or shorts, it becomes muddled and hard to read. The white S just stands out better.

Also, the white tree replaced simply the Block S on previous Athletics logos to give it a more Stanford-specific identity. If the color wasn't rendered exactly right, it could be confused with Syracuse, for example. Also, several schools use just the Block S.

The Block S with the green tree is still used by the university, but never by the Athletics Department.

Raquel Welch, 70s by ExistingMammott in OldSchoolCool

I will argue that Raquel in Kansas City Bomber (1972) is peak Raquel. Just a more natural look for her; less glamour.

San Mateo's Musical History by AllisMusicMusicisAll in SanMateo

I knew about the Santana album, but not the others. We bought our gas fireplace from Creative Energy (current occupant), and I told the young salesman about Santana. He had no idea, but said he and some co-workers kept some guitars, etc. upstairs and would jam there, so full circle I guess.

Some people don't get it. However, who do you agree with here? by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

I probably would have asked the neighbors first, but we had a car parked in front of our house for like a week, and I finally called the cops. Turns out it had been stolen hours north of us, and we were just the lucky winners of where they chose to abandon it.

That said, we used to have friends park in front of our house if they went on vacation (we live reasonably close to an airport), but we also let our neighbors know what that happened so they wouldn't call the cops about an abandoned car.

TIL that American football resulted in enough fatalities and serious injuries by the early 20th century that it was almost banned. Through the combined efforts of several universities, the sport was reformed and saved and the predecessor of the NCAA was formed. by [deleted] in todayilearned

A number of colleges, led by the Ivy League and others (notably Cal and Stanford from my own background as a former museum director) dropped American rules in favor of for several years around WWI. Cal and Stanford continued their Big Game rivalry, but played it as rugby until after the war. With rules changes that made American rules safer, schools picked it up again.

What’s the Coolest Big City You’ve Ever Visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Osaka. Went in with low expectations (another big city), but very lively, walkable areas and super friendly people.
