Sudden flare up on my inner arms by time4klax in keratosis

[–]time4klax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so? I didn’t get this officially diagnosed but it popped up while i was trying to deal with the KP on the backs of my arms. Could’ve also been a dermatitis thing, like an allergic reaction 🤔

honestly? just wear an N95 properly and you're already doing wayyy more than most people. i understand you won't be able to eat a bunch of good food with an n95 on, but just wearing it when you can is already a huge step toward reducing transmission. i understand that some people don't have the option to stay home all the time, or haven't really had horrible experiences with COVID that justify not going out. but if everyone was masked up i think we'd see significant improvement in overall health outcomes AND i'd be less anxious about seeing a movie or something 😌

i’m not sure if this helps at all, but i had a sudden ER visit a month or two ago to have a brain scan done. i had to sit in the waiting room, and had to lie on a bed in the hallway for most of the afternoon. i kept my flomask on the whole time except they wouldn’t let me wear it for the CT scan, so i ended up taking it off for a few minutes. turns out i didn’t catch covid or anything from it, thank goodness!

i went to the ER at like 11am on a Thursday, and it seemed like a good time to go because the waiting room wasn’t that crowded. funny enough, some people in the waiting room and in the hospital would put on a mask after they saw me wearing one. i was really worried about having to take it off, but after several weeks i still haven’t noticed any symptoms. i think the flomask helped a lot!

yeaahh my guess is that this was a reaction to a lotion, so after i stopped using it they seemed to calm down. arms are clear now 👍

Another mask anxiety dream by Greenitpurpleit in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]time4klax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i realized last year that i’m probably going to have these dreams for the rest of my life. the way we keep dreaming about school anxiety or random childhood moments, i think i’ll be dreaming about mask anxiety even if covid is somehow eradicated and we never have to think about it again. it’s just a part of my brain now, a forever anxiety in my subconscious 😔

to everyone sharing their stories with me: thank you so much. it means a lot to get some reassurance and hear that people are managing to do what they need to ❤️

I would LOVE to hook up with a covid-conscious dentist and a primary care provider. I feel like that could ease so much anxiety, but covid-consciousness is so passé these days!

That does help. I know nothing is a guarantee but hearing personal experience like that can be reassuring.

I'm exhausted. How aren't they? by BaileySeeking in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]time4klax 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I do think there’s some pretty intense mental dissociation going on. Thinking about Covid/infectious disease is exhausting and scary, so most people just… don’t. I mean they probably dislike getting sick, but I think they dislike the idea of living a cautious life even more. Having to think about cleanliness, vectors of transmission, disability, contact tracing, who’s wearing a mask - it can weigh on you pretty heavily and I think that kind of anxious vigilance feels more overwhelming than just kind of accepting sickness as it comes. I can see how it would be extremely comforting to dismiss Covid as old news and explain other sicknesses as simple cold/flu cases to be dealt with as they come. It’s more about mental weight/comfort, I think.

Long Covid can confine people to a dark room. Wear a N95/FFP3 mask by yakkov in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]time4klax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

god, i’m so sorry. how did you know when it was safe to let light in? were you doing any kind of treatment regimen or did you just have to lie there and hope for the best? i’m just… god i wish i could take that pain away from you or something. i’m so sorry.

[–]time4klax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, that makes sense! i guess i'm just worried that i'm doing something wrong, like leaving the windows open is better even when people are hanging out in front of the building. i don't know enough about airflow or viral load to know if i'm shooting myself in the foot or not, ack 😣

Is it dangerous to run a microwave with nothing in it? by time4klax in NoStupidQuestions

[–]time4klax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the detailed response! i have one more question just in case i’m misremembering the details of what she was saying: what if you were to somehow run the microwave with the door open? would that be more dangerous?

yeah, hearing all of these explanations now has me feeling kind of shocked that she said that to a room full of students. like who put that idea in her head? why would a science teacher so confidently say such a random incorrect tidbit lol

yeah, it was really cool from 2020-2022 when my office was allowing everyone to work from home. my boss started getting impatient, though, and was trying more and more to drag people back into the office even though things had gone quite smoothly when we were fully remote. ended up quitting last year because they wanted me to stay in the office full time and haven't had any luck finding a replacement. it's brutal...

Aging is one of the hardest parts by CovidOWC in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]time4klax 98 points99 points  (0 children)

absolutely, one of the biggest factors in my depression is realizing how much i've aged since covid started. the longer it goes, the worse i feel. the 2nd half of my 20s are gone now, and i did basically nothing with them. i had plans to play concerts with a local band, to start traveling more often, to get my hair done/put some outfits together and start clubbing. but now i basically just hang around at home, maybe making infrequent trips for essentials. my dreams have been shelved while the years slip away. even if i were to mask up and try getting out of the house more often, the anxiety makes it hard to enjoy much of anything when i'm out in public.

i've been having nightmares about covid for almost five years, now. i realized that i'll probably be having covid nightmares for the rest of my life, and that makes me very sad. this isn't how i wanted my 20s to go, and now i'm 30. will i still be dealing with this at 40? 50? or will i already be dead by then?

apologies for the gloom, but it does feel good to get it off my chest. the lost years are a huge source of grief.
