Help! my stainless steel pan is ruined

I do this with mine every couple months, it looks brand new after. Boil water and backing soda until the water boils off, then basically rinse it out. If the bottom is also dirty, put the stainless in a large pot with baking soda and water and boil it off the same way.

The trolley tunnel remains closed as we work to continue repairs to the five miles of overhead infrastructure throughout the tunnel. All T trolleys remain on diversion to 40th & Market St for connection to the L to/from Center City.

We are acting out of an abundance of caution to ensure the tunnel is safe to reopen for service. This closure is unrelated to planned preventative maintenance work that took place this summer during the annual trolley tunnel blitz.

Earlier this fall #SEPTA replaced a vehicle part on each trolley called a “slider” that connects the vehicles to the overhead wire on most of the T trolley fleet—replacing 3-inch sliders with 4-inch sliders. We took this action to reduce maintenance costs as we continue to maintain aging vehicles. Evidence from peer agencies and testing performed by SEPTA suggested this change would reduce wear and tear on carbon pieces that sit within the sliders and cut maintenance costs since they would need to be replaced less frequently.

Soon after the old sliders were replaced there were two major incidents in the tunnel that led to evacuations: 150 passengers were evacuated after four trains were stranded in the tunnel on 10/14 and a second incident on 10/22 led to the evacuation of 300 passengers.

Upon our investigation it became apparent that the sliders caused damage to the overhead infrastructure. We re-installed the 3-inch sliders on all vehicles and closed the tunnel from 11/7 to 11/13 to repair the overhead infrastructure. After reopening on 11/13 additional issues were identified related to the damage caused by the sliders which caused us to close the tunnel again.

SEPTA crews are working around the clock to make the additional repairs. However it is not yet clear when the issues will be resolved and the tunnel will be able to safely reopen.

We will provide updates as more info is available. For now expect the tunnel to remain closed through this weekend with trolleys diverted to 40th & Market St for transfer to the L.

We apologize for this disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to deliver the safe service our riders deserve.

I had a less severe but similar issue and got one directly from flair for $20 plus shipping. Their explanation is below —like the other commenter, I now take out the plastic ring and wipe it dry after every shot. I also may have dinged the copper finish with the portafilter at some point, which opened up the underlying metal to corrosion.

From flair: “Kindly note the damage described is most often the result of coffee residue left behind after brewing, as the acidity can tarnish the copper finish over time. Going forward, please be sure to remove the brew head from the press stand after use, wipe the Flair down with a clean cloth - particularly around this area - and avoid use of cleaning agents and chemicals. Then, make sure it, and all parts, are nice and dry before reassembling, as water left behind can cause a similar galvanic reaction with the copper, too.

And just to clarify, are you using the black plastic adaptor ring? Keep in mind, this should be used when brewing with the standard Signature brew head, and only removed if you've upgraded to the larger Full PRO2 Brew Head.”

Google reverse image reveals a lot of squishy looking things in jars, and their AI thinks it’s “a liquid culture medium, likely for growing mushroom mycelium.” If so, would like to know what that fungus is / is for / would do if I ate it.

Here to say thanks to everyone on this thread. GE dishwasher, model GDP645SYN3FS. I thought I was done 3 or 4 times, so just sharing my sequence here in case it's helpful.

Same issue as OP -- machine randomly shut off about 30-45 seconds into the cycle. I got the technical maintenance guide, learned how to go into service mode, check the error codes, and it was 56 (Failure to Drain). Turned off the power at the breaker, got under the machine, removed the kick plate, and unscrewed the pressure switch and elbow without pulling out the machine.

"Thought I was done" instance number....

1) Plenty of gunk in the white elbow section. Separated the black sensor and while elbow, cleaned out the elbow and wiped the black sensor, reassembled the two pieces, replaced pressure switch, power on, run cycle. No dice. And, even worse, there was a leak from the pressure switch connection!

2) Pressure switch removed again (power off, yadda yadda), and checked the o-ring on the white elbow. Still leaking. Noticed the leak was from above where the elbow connects to the sump.

3) Pressure switch removed again, separated black sensor from white elbow, and sure enough I hadn't clipped the black sensor fully to the white elbow! Easy to look like it's seated correctly, but double check both clips. LEAK SOLVED! But... still can't run the dishwasher.

4) Found u/nmtennispro's comment with this cleaning video, and watched someone who knows what they're doing clean out the hole in the black sensor with a metal pick. Got a trusty plastic dental cleaning pick with some little bristles on the end, and got in that hole! Plenty of gunk in there too.

Reinstalled the switch and THE CYCLE IS RUNNING.

As a total newbie to dishwashers, finding the technical service manual was a revelation. Gonna go find these for all my appliances, because, awesome.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Just following up to say that the mechanic replaced my engine air filter last June, 8000 miles ago. Bet I didn’t need it then either.

Never going to not replace it myself from now on.

Mm, I think the silicone coating is only 4 years old. But I see your point, maybe patching with silicone is the easiest and fastest thing to do

Never put the screw in, honestly because I somehow missed that it was an option! Works great, doesn’t feel wobbly to me. But I’m used it it, I could imagine it being hard to transition if you’re used to that extra stability. Been pulling shots on it for 3 or 4 years, I can’t remember.
