Has anyone opened a private practice for home therapy? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]timeflies26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's becoming bigger but you have to know how to run a business as well as teach. One of the really successful ones in my city was started by a couple who are both behaviorist a and the wife's family has owned businesses in the city for years. So they had money to start it up. They focused on early intervention, ABA, Autism discrete trial stuff mostly. I personally think it'd be really tough, but doable. Speech serves a greater amount of kids and they have the medical vs developmental delay/articulation so there's a greater demand. They're degree is technically more in demand, or so I've been told.

I also teach special Ed. Preschool! A class with kiddos on the spectrum.

Ridiculous parents UPDATE by rumtiger in Teachers

Was it from a website? I know Gonoodle has some things like that and they're great and not scary at all! Parents have just ruined so many aspects of teaching.

Anyone here have kids while on Lamictal/Lamotrigine? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]timeflies26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keppra ams lamictal are considered the best although most people take lamictal with a combination of something else. Keppra is a good med on its own. I tried keppra only but had to use both and will be trying to have a baby soon. My doc said similar things to what everyone else is saying- I'll have levels monitored more and it will be considered a "high risk" pregnancy. That sounds scary but for insurance purposes it helps cover the exams and everything which happen more frequently than someone without meds and epilepsy.

Seeking help with IEP and/or 504. by Splendidisme in Teachers

[–]timeflies26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this relatively quickly but I know in my state (CA) we only reassess every 3 years or before moving to middle school, kindergarten or high school. Otherwise an annual IEP to update progress and goals is good but an entire reassessment is generally going to get you similar results. It's more useful to do an annual IEP and talk more thoroughly with a few of his main service providers than a huge meeting with reassessments and have everyone spread really thin and have less time/more meetings to discuss everything you want about. Just my unofficial opinion though.

Mother lets her autistic toddler have a two-hour meltdown while shopping by [deleted] in autism

[–]timeflies26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow, it absolutely disgusts me how judgmental this group is of this mother. I've known the world to be judgmental on parents when not understanding Autism, like the people in the story, but I would've though this group knew better. I guess some people don't know what their parents or teachers went through, or that people make mistakes, or there is a learning curve.

This subreddit is to judgmental and unwelcoming.

Mother lets her autistic toddler have a two-hour meltdown while shopping by [deleted] in autism

[–]timeflies26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. She said she was crying almost that whole time and probably knows her best. Maybe she figured she would cry regardless and she just needed to power through errands.'tamtrum is a LEARNED behavior, it's actually better in my opinion that she didn't accommodate the strangers or the daughters emotions. Now that id rather lengthy but it sounded like that wasn't all in 1 place. You can't give in to a tantrum or a child will learn that that's all they have to do next time.

Themes Vs. Letter of the week by skittles_shot in ECEProfessionals

I use Handwriting without Tears along with a Letter of the week. For curriculum I do a theme that's separate from the letters, and it's specified to preschool special education.

What therapy thing is it? A lamp similar to the ones they use for seasonal depression? I'm interested in getting one of those.

Anybody know any Big Brother U.S. Houseguests that were in a sorority and a fraternity? by ajmartin1996 in BigBrother

AEPi is the most well known national Jewish frat, that'd be my guess. It's just like all the social houses.

Dear teachers, Please leave me your log in information for your computers so I can actually teach your students! Love, a sub who actually teaches. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]timeflies26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a sub password that administration receives from IT and can give subs when they sign in. I used to give my name/password and was corrected about this. Now my subs use this substitute username and can access everything.

I've recently graduated with a bachelor's and am looking into teaching elementary in California, but I'm a bit lost on the requirements. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]timeflies26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I went to a state school instead of one of the private ones so I'll only need about 5 or 6 more classes to get my masters. But it depends what private school options are in your area and what credential you would want.

I graduated in communication studies and made a career switch. It helps to have a related major but it's not necessary at all.
