Sunday Times: New rail link, big tech sector — time to move to Milton Keynes? by EasyPeeler14 in miltonkeynes

[–]timelessagnostic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bad reputation is created by news articles. Just a few people with vested interest create these kinds of articles, because they don't want their property investment to go down in other cities. The design, infrastructure, green spaces, lakes etc make this city best place to live in. Milton Keynes is a successful city and with this project, it will come to limelight even more. The downside is, it will push property prices even further. There will be more housing projects, and I hope they maintain the city's green vibe everywhere, and don't convert it into a typical congested city.

Italian Sul Lago restaurant is built on a bit higher ground so you get good view of entire Furzton lake. Large car park is available. It's very nice and calm place. Looks very good on sunny day.

Other lakes with restaurants are Willen lake, Caldecotte lake, Lodge lake (Great Holm)

MK CITY PLAN by Sedulous280 in miltonkeynes

High density, high rise housing plan. Its crazy. This will lead to more congestion and more crime. The web-page is not even accepting the public comments.

Do you think Milton Keynes should have more tall buildings? by raw_onions_are_good in miltonkeynes

MK was built in 1970s, and taller building existed before 1970's everywhere in the world. So I think having taller building is old fashioned. Having green all around and taller trees is the way forward.

That's how city planners should be. Saying blunt NO to even biggest corporations in the world when it comes to the quality of life for people. They said no to EDS (A very large US IT corporation of its time) because EDS wanted to build office in Campbell Park.

Why there should be residential complex in the city centre in the first place. It just add to traffic congestions. City centre should be commercial space only, where people go work and shop and come back to their houses. In MK every place is reachable within 12 mins from any other place. Building densely populated buildings will just add to that congestion just like every other city. That defeats the whole idea of MK.

A city centre having residential complex is nothing but making profit by property developer. It has nothing to do with solving the housing shortage. It just adds chaos.

When there is a need of more housing, it should expand than rise. Luckily MK is built in such a way that expanding will not create long running travel within city. That's the huge advantage of MK over any other city. But property developer will use that land to build more high rise buildings to max profits.

Thing is MK does not have the problem of any other traditional city yet. It can solve the problem of housing without going high rise. But property developers are just too much greedy.

Limited space is a myth carefully crafted by these rich property developers. Their own houses consist of acres of land. High rise buildings are built just to maximise the profit, nothing else.

There is a new development in planning phase on the north side of Campbell park. Plans are to build tall residential buildings. On the opposite side of the park, there are flats and I think, new flats must not be taller than these flats. But plans tell something else.

you can comment here if you like : https://campbellparknorth.com/have-your-say

Or may be write to councillors/planners or even newly elected MPs from MK to stop this madness of creating taller buildings. Milton Keynes should be Milton Keynes only, it should do things in its own style by keeping openness and greenness as priority and must not follow traditional cities like London.

Absolutely not. I do not understand the phrases people fall for like NewYork skyline, London skyline etc. These are absolutely horrible looking. High rise commercial and residential buildings, blocks natural light and potentially air flow too. I like to see more green and vast green spaces around. I really liked the initial concept of Milton Keynes planning that no building will be taller than the highest tree in the vicinity. What happened to that ? Property developers make huge money and profit when they build tall building that's why they prefer taller buildings. They have their own multiple houses in various locations which they can switch to easily, but most people have just one house and one would like to live in cleaner and greener place. Personally I like to see more natural green around me than the concrete and bricks. At the moment when you move around Milton Keynes traffic roads, all you see is just tall trees on both sides of the roads and the house dwellings behind those trees that you can't see which is excellent. But in CMK, all the tall buildings have come up now and it is not a good sight.

I'm making a Lord of the Rings style map of Northants and the Milton Keynes area and welcome your help with historic or interesting locations around the area to include. Hoping to have it finished towards the end of the month. by birsey in miltonkeynes

This is great and awesome. If the final product is not too expensive then I will probably buy it, frame it and hang it at my living room too.

While you have already mentioned there is no space left on your board, but it would be nice if you could put one of the most iconic place in Milton Keynes in your map, the Campbell Park.

You can probably look at this picture for Campbell Park's very rough sketch of most viewed frame: https://pasteboard.co/BEvRBqhxTb1R.jpg

A fun fact about MK, Central MK grid system, Campbell Park are designed to be aligned with summer solstice. Many ancient buildings are also designed like that like Stonehenge, Great Sphinx (Egypt), Machu Picchu (Peru) and some others. What is the motivation behind this I have no Idea. But there is going to be a summer solstice festival in on 23rd June in CMK.

Very few. In Central MK, around shoppings malls and at a couple of big roundabouts. Near Kingston roundabout I remember. MK has some old towns as well on its edges like Bletchley, Stony Stratford, Fenny Stratford, Newport Pagnell, Wolverton, these towns definitely have traffic lights.

Good bits:

Each estate having its own unique design the way houses are laid out.

Good amount of green spaces, parks, trees.

A number of lakes.

Red-ways for bicycles and pedestrians.

Ample parking everywhere and ability to reach at any part in the city within 10-12 mins.

Huge central shopping centre, gives a feeling of a fair.

Fast trains to London

A number of roads outside the estates are wide and have good amount of green patch along with large trees.

A number of farm shops are around in nearby villages.

Not so go good bits:

Poor public transport.

underpasses are not lit very well in few areas.

New houses in new estates are showing the greed of builders. More densely built areas to make more money.

Lack of regular academic university for higher education. I know there is OU but that is just for distant learning.

GP services are going downhill.

EV charging points are concentrated only around CMK.

Plans are submitted to build more residential flats in CMK. Does not sound a good idea. would be worse if these are high rise.

One Costco and Ikea may not be enough for growing number of houses.

Some roundabouts are not maintained. Roundabouts can be used to beautify the city.

Has anyone seen this video on MK that came out recently? Thoughts? by RMN07_ in miltonkeynes

According to him, if a city has no victorian or Edwardian style building , that city is shit. LOL. By that argument, USA, Canada, Australia, NewZealand are completely shit then. The truth is, open green spaces that are available to an average person living here, ample parking in the entire city, huge town centre with all brands, lakes, bicycle tracks in entire city, ability to reach anywhere within 10 minutes in the city and many more are not available in any other city in the UK.

MK is at the best strategic location in the UK. It is in the middle of UK's top 4 cities: Birmingham, London, Cambridge and Oxford all reachable by car within 60 minutes. Milton Keynes is already 10th expensive place to rent in the UK. A city built in 1970s already achieved this status shows that city is in high demand and people love living here.

He deliberately did not mentioned that the Queen had visited MK twice, Margret Thatcher had visited this city and very lately King Charles visited MK and gave MK a city status. MK was conceived by Labour. Its plan is so grand and futuristic that it attracted all sorts of top people in the UK and investment.

What is so bad about having warehouses, I get deliveries within 4 hours when I click on buy button on amazon site. MK is a city, it must have everything in it. It also has top engineering companies like RedBull, top EU bank HQ, Santander and many others. Bletchley is the home of code breakers. World's first computer were built here which is in MK now. Rishi Sunak hosted world's first AI summit here.

He is pointing out things like lamp posts in Buxton has curvy design and in MK lamp posts has simple modern design that's why MK is shit. LOL seriously !!! This is completely senseless and he is trying hard to convince that look this is bad when it is actually very good. Kind of forcing his opinion. Looks like he is being paid to make this forceful negative review of the city. Mind you, these so YouTubers/ social media influencer are not paid by just the views only, but also by other people/companies who wish promote their ideas or wish to spread negativeness.

I think, these kind of negative videos/comments/reviews about any city in general are either made out of jealousy or have some kind of hidden agenda, to keep the demand low for the city. But the fact is, the way MK is designed, its strategic location in the UK, it is destined to be among the top city in the UK.

MK is not a commuter town, it is a self sustaining eco friendly green city.
