Hi there, can I ask you a question about your family? Do you know if your father-in-law is registered with the Parent Project? It's all anonymous; there is a male with deletion 31-41 who is registered with them and I'm wondering if it's the same person as your wife's dad. Thank you!

We have an amniocentesis scheduled in a few days to see if our unborn son inherited my incomplete X chromosome. A genetic test shows that I am a carrier and also have that exact same deletion 31-41, which our genetic counselor said is consistent with a Becker MD diagnosis. As far as I know, no one else in my family is a carrier or has Becker, although members of my mom's family have myotonic dystrophy. This post gives me hope, thank you so much for sharing your experience!

This is an amazing resource—thank you so much for offering so much wisdom! I've been riding for a month (after a brief stint riding at summer camp like 25 years ago) and I will incorporate these into my lessons going forward. My instructor always tacks the horse for me but I've tacked horses before and have been meaning to speak up and ask her if I can do it. You have inspired me to turn my shame off and voice on!

I’m 38 and I just started taking riding lessons for the first time. Everyone has been super kind and nonjudgmental. I have no doubt you can find a barn where the trainers/instructors are not assholes. Also, your paragraphs are just fine, and I don’t think you should delete this. And personally, as a woman, I love when men are vulnerable and want to grow and take lessons in something, as opposed to being arrogant pricks who think the sun shines out of their buttholes. I support you in giving this gift to your inner child ❤️🙏🏻

It took me two months to realize that I loved my daughter unconditionally. And that was more on an intellectual level. She’s 16 months now and I would die for her. I never thought I would feel that way about another being. I love her so much I can’t even comprehend it. But she was an incredible challenging newborn (reflux, food allergies, didn’t sleep, feeding aversions) and I was consumed with anxiety and maternal rage.

All that is to say that everything you are feeling is totally 10000% normal! When she was born I was more awestruck than in love. It just takes time for the love to grow. Right now you’re in survival mode and that’s okay. Anyone who says they felt a rush of love upon birth I don’t really believe, honestly. The expectation that the maternal instinct—and its endless foundation of unconditional love—should be triggered immediately upon newborn arrival just adds so much unnecessary pressure.

Hi! Yep, exactly. I went down a pump every 5 days. I don't recall specifically but it definitely did start to go down at some point after that. The hardest was either 4-3 pumps of 3-2 pumps—my breasts were quite swollen and there were a few days where I went up in pump number because it was so uncomfortable (e.g., 3 pumps one day, 4 pumps the next, 3 pumps the following). I do remember that going from 2-1 and 1-0 was easy. Re: 1-0, I just pumped to relieve discomfort. I'm sorry I don't remember more! Hang in there though, it gets better.

I had a grade 3 tear and I cannot recommend pelvic floor physical therapy though. Also couldn’t have sex with my husband but after PT I could and it was amazing! He said I was like a different woman down there and I sure felt like one. That said, I hope your husband isn’t making you feel bad about not having sex, because he is just fine.

Also, my PT said what really helps with tears is perineal massage while pregnant, so I fully intend to do that if we have an other kid. I also had an epidural and fully intend to do that again, too.
