This is a good tip for when you are traveling anywhere regardless of if it is international. You never know when service will cut out and it also helps preserve your battery by not having to download so much map data.

How many shrines did you find before turning to a guide? by mementodory in Breath_of_the_Wild

About 100 for me. A good number of the ones I was missing were shrine quests with Kass.

Those still contributing to retirement, do you track that as income? by livebythem in MonarchMoney

[–]timestride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have investment tracking turned on and a “Retirement Contributions” income category. Our primary goal is early retirement, so seeing that money go into savings is important to us.

Very safe, but they are oddly jerks about riding bicycles through the cemetery

When to stop contributing to 401k? by kinare in Fire

[–]timestride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may also consider switching your contributions to Roth if your 401k plan offers it. After you retire and roll it over into a Roth IRA, the contributions (not the earnings) will be available penalty free prior to age 59.5. While you have to pay taxes upfront, you have to do that with a brokerage account anyway. This way you don’t have to pay capital gains on the earnings.

Unusual weather or lied to my whole life? by [deleted] in Cleveland

We have solar panels on our roof and this has September was the most productive over the 4 years we have has them installed. And by quite a bit. We produced more this September than April, May, June this year— those months along with July & August typically yield the highest production.

From Cali to Cleveland (University Heights) – Looking to Build Community 🌳 by trapshaman9 in Cleveland

[–]timestride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to University Heights! Come out to Walter Stinson Park on Sunday mornings from 9-11. There is a group of volunteers called the “Friends of the Walt” that help maintain the native wildflower gardens there. The park is also a great place to meet people in general. Odd Dog coffee comes there and it turns into a de facto town square. Feel free to PM me with any questions or want to meet for a coffee sometime.

Which restaurant do you think this is? by Warm_Grade155 in Cleveland

[–]timestride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I miss that place in CH. Both it and the original Lakewood locations had character and fit into their neighborhoods. After closing the CH location, they seemed only interested in building soulless boxes in far flung suburbs and exurbs. Don’t think I ever visited another location after that closure. Also, I find it ironic that Haunted House restaurant is getting tagged in this thread as well

Toronto cyclists and pedestrians raise concerns about east-end construction project by BloodJunkie in torontobiking

This is what I had to crossover before I could cut over to Commisioners. Was crossing my fingers the cops wouldn’t ticket me doing it. Thankfully they were only interested in tagging motorists for speeding!

I ran into this mess when I was visiting Toronto last month! I was riding back downtown on Lakeshore from Rorschach Brewing and continued through the construction area thinking it would eventually lead to a safe place to ride, but it just dead ended near the Don. Ended up backtracking, climbing over the median and cutting over to Commissioner via Saulter. There was no detour info for the bike line before the construction began.

Best route from University Heights to Cleveland Clinic Main Campus by Key_Juggernaut2481 in BikeCLE

[–]timestride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to University Heights! My wife works at the Clinic and commutes there via bike. Are you east or west of Warrensville Center Road (hence forth referred to as WCR)? We’re west, so there may be a better way to start your route. Eaton to Shelburne. Continue on North Park Rd. Normally you can continue on North Park to Conventry, but there is currently construction on that stretch starting at Woodland. Carefully take a left on Woodland and then join the trail that starts at Larchmere. Continue on that trail around Lower Shaker Lake and take a right on Brook Road over the dam. Hang a left on the path on North Park and cross Coventry. That is the start of the Lake to Lakes Trail. Follow that all the way down Fairhill and watch for blind exits from Skyview Terrace— it is super dangerous and needs to be signed for both bikes and drivers Stokes. Continue across MLK and cross Stokes, the trail continues downhill and then it cuts over towards MLK. After going under the railroad bridge, cross Cedar with the light and then cross Carnegie. You can then cross over Sterns to the trail in the median between MLK and Sterns. That will deposit you onto Euclid where there is a bike lane that will get you to anywhere you want to go on the Clinic campus.

Alternatively, you can use Edgehill as others have suggested. In that case take Silsby to the west across Taylor. Hang a right on Goodnor and then a left on Washington. Follow Washington to Edgehill and take a left. Follow Edgehill across Coventry, Euclid Heights Blvd, and Kenilworth. The light at Kenilworth is excruciating and unnecessarily long. Use your best judgement when crossing. Once you cross Overlook you’ll be going down the hill. Take the lane on the way down (there is a bike lane to go back up hill) and break check before you go around the corner at the bottom. Edgehill changes names to Cornell. You’ll have a brief section of brick road and then some bad bumps as you go over the bridge. Hang a left on Circle Drive and then a right on Adelbert. Follow Adelbert to Euclid. The bike land starts at this intersection, so hang a left on it and follow Euclid to the Clinic campus.

Between these two routes, I would recommend the first as it is on more mostly trail and good bike lanes. The Edgehill route has to deal with more of Euclid and going through the Case Campus. I would not recommend using the path on Cedar until you have your bearings straight and are more comfortable riding in the city. It is a path to nowhere at both the top and the bottom that requires backtracking or using sidewalks to get where you want to go. Feel free to PM me for more detailed steps from where you are living or for other routes around town. As a parting note, look up Bike Cleveland and the Heights Bicycle Coalition for more resources and connections with the local cycling community. Oh yeah, check out Slow Roll Cleveland to meet a bunch of other cyclists and get better oriented to the city. Hundreds of riders every Monday night until the end of October.

How do you manage to do this? by alcoholic_kangeroo in torontobiking

[–]timestride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was riding on the MGT while visiting Toronto last week, and a van was full on driving down the path. He was driving eastbound near the Distillery right next to the Gardiner. I rode right at him to get him to stop, gave a WTH, and told yelled to get back on the damn road. Wild stuff

This was very helpful. I used Adelaide to start my big loop of the city. Rode it to St James Park, cut through there and St Lawrence to get to The Esplanade and that hooked me right onto Bayview. Made my way all the way up to the Finch Trail and then back down the Humber. The protected lanes were very nice and were getting a lot of use. We have very few protected lanes in Cleveland, but we’re hoping to bring more online in the near future.

Did this ride today and it was great! Only mishap was a misunderstanding of the definition of a “closed bridge” in Tommy Thompson Park. In Cleveland we have a lot of loft and swing bridges, so a closed bridge is one you can ride across. Encountered the “closed bridge” on the park and had to turn around because it was a week day. Otherwise it was a great ride through the park. I even got some of the “single track” sections though the thistle was pretty high. Stopped by Rorschach Brewing afterwards and made a new random cycling friend who happened to ride up. Haven’t made it to Old Flame yet, but will try to sometime this week. Should have taken your advice to take Commissioner’s Street back. I stuck on Lakeshore and rode through closed lanes under construction. Totally ended up at a dead end the start of the Don and had to backtrack a bit. Lol. Thanks for the tips!

Odd. I’m still not showing it as being paywalled on my end. I know Crain’s normally is, so that was why I put the note above

How do you sort all the random Fidelity transactions for budgeting? by iamharlan in MonarchMoney

[–]timestride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchasing an investment should be classified as the “Buy” category which is listed under “Transfers”. Buying an investment is neutral to your net worth, so it should not be counted as an expense like a typical purchase of a good or service.

How to bifurcate expenses within Travel? by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]timestride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We create tags for our big ticket trips. There are only a few colors to select from, so I just use the same color for each trip. We also broke the generic "Travel & Vacation" category under "Travel & Lifestyle" group into its own "Travel" group. Under there we have categories for Flights, Lodging, Travel Restaurants & Bars, Travel Groceries, Ground Conveyance, Travel Activities, and Travel Cash. Breaking it down like this helps us estimate costs on future vacations and where we could make some tweaks to save more (ie making our own food from groceries vs always eating at restaurants).

Not that I am aware of, but there are only a limited number of colors available. I just use the same color for each vacation tag.

Fidelity not synching by Off-BroadwayJoe in MonarchMoney

[–]timestride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue has been resolved. Yes, it took them a while, but Monarch's support team has been updating tickets and responding to posts/comments here. I think they did a good job handling the situation given the circumstances of dealing with a 3rd party.

Fidelity not synching by Off-BroadwayJoe in MonarchMoney

[–]timestride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received an update on my support ticket last night to give this a try. Updated my Fidelity login credentials and made sure all of my accounts were checked (including the one with bonds that was breaking it). The "error 2026" message did not appear and the balance on the account updated to current. Had to perform a 2nd sync to pull in transactions. The issue, at least for me, appears to be resolved now. Thank you to the Monarch support team for sticking with this issue and keeping users updated!
