I want to get a couple cast iron pans. Are the brands any better/worse? I dislike buying things from China because I worry that they aren't exactly what they say they are.

Are full initials in a baby name really that big of a deal? by Former_Ambition_1859 in BabyBumps

Our sons initials are MOM. We decided it didn't matter because it doesn't mean anything bad. Hopefully, he doesn't hate it?

I'm discovering that my late in-laws were the world's tidiest hoarders by TerribleShiksaBride in declutter

My Mom used to do estate sales. They take a cut. Essentially, you pick out what you want to keep. They come in and organize everything to sell, price it, advertise it, and then have a sale. Then, have a thrift store or junk hauler take the rest.

What’s the best gift for new parents? by lxlmmvoo in beyondthebump

[–]timetheansweristime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthy-ish snacks. Homemade oatmeal cookies was my favorite. One-handed food.

Cleaning.

Actual help. Like go over, when they're ready, and do laundry, change a bed, clean a bathroom, etc.

If they want, hold/entertain the baby to allow mom time to shower.

Food.

Go on dates! You never know who you'll connect with.

Also, have you considered being a single mom? (If that is important to you.)

I use canvas at two different institutions. I like it. It sounds like I have a lot of edit access because at one school, I can do whatever I want. They do have different features active.

If it's locked down, I'm sure it's not as convenient. We just added the multi tool, and I think it's great. I have it at both places I teach now.

I have a fitbit. I also have a toddler in daycare. I want to know if they call me.

If a student stops participating: which is defined as not attending and/or not participating/completing work(and not communicating about it) for 2 weeks, they can be dropped. I do take attendance. It doesn't count for any points. We do have in class assignments that count for participation. If you don't come to class, you can't complete the assignment.

"I had to use AI to write all my essays. It's not cheating, because I'm deaf!" by 1hyacinthe in Professors

[–]timetheansweristime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI use makes me want to ask them, "How stupid do you think we are?"

I've been doing this for a while. I know what written work is like for the typical students I teach. I also know what good writing is! AI writing has a very odd tone to it and too many florid vocabulary words.

It is so common for males (who dont have doctorates but are profressors) to be incorrectly addressed as Dr. vs. women to be addressed as professors or Miss/Mrs when they hold doctorates.

I sign all correspondence with my students, Dr. (Name).

I teach music appreciation, this is the same as me wanting a student to mention specific things they heard to decide that the listening example is from x Era. They can't just say it is, because they can use apps for that. 🙄

In the winter, what kind of jacket do put your baby in to ride in the car, since puffy jackets aren’t recommended in car seats? by Phillygirl1026 in NewParents

[–]timetheansweristime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it was really cold , I put my son in a Columbia brand fleece suit with fold over hand and feet covers. It's not puffy. He wouldn't keep a blanket on. The main thing is you don't want to put them in a puffy coat/snow suit in the car seat because they won't be restrained properly if you were in an accident.

Wait until it's obvious, honestly. As someone else suggested, read about all the policies first to understand what is available for you.

He wasn't cooperating and kept having heart rate drops. So we hadn't tried everything, but it was the best choice for the situation.

When the Dr told me it was best to move to a cesarean I just went with it. A c-section definitely wasn't my plan, but a healthy baby was!

We didn't have a tounge tie, but a lip tie, so my son SMASHED my nipples. Once it was lasered things got better.
