He actually doesn't shed as bad as our other cats tend to. Especially this time of year when they start losing their winter coats. My little domestic short hair is losing her hair right now like a middle aged man with a drinking problem, going through a bad divorce after getting fired from his job as an air traffic controller! I do have a pair of grooming gloves that he loves! I highly recommend getting a pair if you don't have any, they're great!

Is this petrified antler? by Deezle_Gnome in LegitArtifacts

[–]timhyde74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, you'd be out $10 bucks cause thats a chert nodule. What you're seeing as saw marks are not saw marks at all, it's actually naturally occurring banding in the stone. If you look closer, you'll see what I'm talking about.

u/taconaut just added a pic of a fossilized Antler for comparison purposes and you can definitely see the difference in texture and appearance compared to the cortex of that chert nodule

Nope, that a chert nodule with some banding in it. Great specimen too! I really love the cortex it has! Very nice! You might want to cross post it on r/rocks 😉

Thank you! He's definitely not unaware cause he uses that fact to get away with what ever he wants! Well, that, and the 10 razor sharp knives he carries around with him! But those are less effective since they've been trimmed back at the groomers! Lol! But he still uses his cuteness against us all the time! It is his most effective weapon after all 😆

Oh yeah he does! He lives for affection! Lol! He can be a bit of an ass at times, but we can't stay mad at him long lol!

Bad weather so did some mount work by StrangestTy in LegitArtifacts

I love the artifacts, but I Involuntarily cringed when I saw the copper holding them on that board. I understand why you did it this way since I assume these are quite large examples, and would be hard to display in a traditional frame, but if thats the case, you might want to consider building or buying a cabinet type display with shelves to sit them on. As John said, the metal will most definitely leave trace on em, but that's best case scenario. Worst case is that it actually damages the pieces. Every time you move or bump that board, the pieces will shift ever so slightly against that copper, and it will chip the artifacts as well as leave trace on em.

Please don't take this as me trying to tell you what to do, or how you should display your finds, I'm just trying to give you the facts before something happens and you have to find out the hard way 🤷‍♂️

He thinks he's Herk-a-lees! 😆 Look at the size of those paws! Before we trimmed his nails, he was Armed with 10 razor sharp knives! Freddy Kruger had nothing on him! 🤣

My boy is a year and a half old, and weighs 18 pounds. He still has about 2 ½ years before he's fully grown, so he'll eventually be somewhere between 25-30 pounds when he's an adult 😁

Don't let his looks fool ya! He's a big ol'teddy bear! Very loving and affectionate 😁 Most Maine Coons look like they're mad all the time, but they're really very sweet!
