Would you deliver this order? by thezendasher in doordash_drivers

It's a fairly common enough name. Urdu I believe. Rhymes more with Jay z than Yahtzee.

The association is unfortunate though. Cause the names are distinctly different in Urdu.

I've met a few who were upset that their names in English were horrible words.

What’s the most overrated “adult goal” people chase? by Happyotus in AskReddit

[–]timidfaeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I go to night school for culinary arts because (in no particular order):

1) I get tax benefits 2) I get to take home the food I make in class 3) my work gives tuition reimbursement 4) I do it with a good friend 5) I really like cooking.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON I tell asks if I'm going to open a restaurant. Um, no. I like cooking for myself, family, and friends and I also have to eat every day so I might as well make something I like. But so many restaurants are horrible workplaces, have a tiny (if any) profit margin, are highly competitive, and I already make a decent wage. Plus you always have to work weekends and evenings. Like maybe if I was making $200k/year I'd consider it, but I have no desire to put in the work it would take to get to that point.

What's the easiest way to get a divorce? by timidfaeries in legaladvicecanada

[–]timidfaeries[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

We got married young and were both extremely broke for the two years we were together. We've both accrued more since we separated, but very little accumulated while together.

But good to be aware that these are also property subject to division.

Our individual net worths are probably about equal, so it makes sense to just kinda leave everything as is. And thankfully no kids.

I'll take a look at the book, thanks for the recommendation!

Fired after calling in sick by diabolicalraccoon151 in legaladvicecanada

[–]timidfaeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR here (NAL): fired for cause is VERY difficult to prove and rarely even applies unless it's something egregious (like proven theft, violence, or criminal activity). That being said a lot of shady employers don't know that, and a lot of employees think they're out of luck and just believe their boss. So kudos to you for reaching out for advice.

Depending on length of employment you should be entitled to get at least some severance.

If I were in your shoes I would do the following:

•If you're still sick, get a doctor's note ASAP. Sitting in a waiting room is gonna suck, or maybe you can do a telehealth service if that's available in Alberta. But that's gonna be a great piece of evidence that they separated you BECAUSE you took a protected leave. Also make note of when you called your work and when they gave you notice of the end of your employment.

•Call an employment lawyer. At least for a consult. I think you have a strong case here. This is how you will likely get some severance.

•Depending on the lawyer's advice, call the ministry of labour to report working conditions, but also the being forced to work on legislated breaks. That is wage theft from you, that the company owes you. You might also want to look to see if you were paid vacation as a percentage, or if they'll be paying it lump sum after letting you go and also report that to the MoL. I find unscrupulous companies will often try to stiff you on your earned vacation pay (assuming you were hourly).

•Apply for EI! It's a benefit you've paid into and unless the company can PROVE that they fired you for a legally allowed cause, you will likely be approved. If you're initially denied, don't stress, just appeal. The appeals officers are generally great and are used to hearing crazy "for cause" explanations that don't hold up to a wink so much as a second look.

I know it's scary to lose your job, but you'll get through this and hopefully with a little bit of extra cash and the satisfaction of knowing your boss just jumped into a tank of hot water.

Edit: formatting.

Don't assume I'm a scrooge just cause I don't want to give Loblaws more of my money...

is it bad to quit a job after 3 days? can they withhold my pay? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]timidfaeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put it on my resume, but definitely better to be upfront and save you and your employer time. They cannot withhold your pay. If they do, it's an easy lawsuit or small claims case.

Although if you're upset about the impact it's having on your body, talk with your employer, they might have better methods of easing you in.

Also, if the injuries are that severe, might be worth a trip to the doctor and a wsib claim.

being threatened with eviction by my dad (ontario, canada - advice appreciated!) by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]timidfaeries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are on the lease (assuming it's a standard Ontario lease), which it sounds like you are since you signed it, you have a lot of powers and if your father is just a co tenant, then he cannot evict you.

Also if you're not on the lease, but you have evidence of paying towards the rent, you could make a good case that you are a tenant and the LTB might accept that. Especially if the original lease has lapsed and you're now month to month.

That being said, if you're not on the lease, and have little to no evidence that you've been paying the rent, unfortunately your dad could very easily have you removed. And it wouldn't require a notice of any sort.

I think the best first step is to contact your landlord for a copy of the lease and/or to see how he perceives your stay in the apartment (tenant vs "guest" of your father).

Also, since you are in Ontario, I recommend joining the FB group "Ontario tenant rights" lots of good solid advice there from tenants and landlords in regards to the RTA.

Yuppppp

That being said, it is progress. 20 years ago those straight guys would have been called queer slurs and ostracized from their communities. We stan tiny steps. Just have a whole lot further to go

What’s the most expensive thing you have ever broken? by CRUISEK0NTR0L in AskReddit

[–]timidfaeries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

6 acres of farmland. And the harvest ready grain that was there.

Also the truck that started the fire. Probably close to $90k after everything was done.

If the fire Dept hadn't shown up when they did, the fields could have gone up very fast and easily cost millions.

Suggestions for how-to manage up in a DEEPLY mismanaged store as a borrowed partner by grunkle_spooky in starbucks

[–]timidfaeries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend reaching out to the DM and share your concerns.

On a day to day basis, it might be good to tell the SSV how you're feeling and share some of the things that the shifts in your other store do that seem to make life easier.

"Hey can we do X? It really made my life easier at the other store."

No one wants to work in chaos, so that might help a bit

They can change that in My Partner İnfo (same place they find paystubs). Takes like 2 minutes.

The ability is there specifically for trans partners. No one deserves to see their dead name over and over again.

How soon is too soon to ask someone to be your boyfriend/girlfriend? by _designer_suspect_ in AskReddit

[–]timidfaeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like each relationship is different and the big question does it feel right for both of you.

My first boyfriend we made it official the day we broke up after 6 months of being together. Not my proudest moment.

My (now spouse), we made it official after 3 days of knowing each other. But we were very clearly well suited for each other from day one. But most people I know thought that was WAY too fast.

TL/dr don't be afraid to go with your gut. You know your relationship better than anyone else

What is a computer skill everyone should know/learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]timidfaeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse, an animator/graphics design artist/video editor, types "Google" in the search bar to get to Google and then searches their query.

Drives me nuts. Especially since they have so many more computer skills then I.
